Ah I guess its the opposite for me, being an international. I do not qualify for federal aid.

I found an automatic stats scholarship for test scores/GPA in the southeast.

I believe U of Alabama is automatic depending on test scores and gpa. I’m not sure yet if this applies to internationals as well but I havent found any evidence on the contrary.

Ask them about it. It’s my most likely school probably @thesoxpride10

If I’m above the 75th percentile in all SAT categories; the tuition is “cheap” enough for me to be able to attend the school; the school has my major; and I like the campus. A safety school is one that you can be nearly 100% sure that you can get in to, can afford to attend, AND would be happy to attend.

For me, my safeties are Millersville, Rutgers, and the University of Delaware.

@metsfanajm I’m at or above the 75th for all six of my schools but they aren’t safeties due to being out of state publics. Alabama, Florida, and Miami are in my safety category

This is totally random, but has anyone been nominated for the ALS ice bucket challenge?

@minhoforever yes lol. I have about 14 hours left :)

Hi all! Gap year student year. Mind if I join in?

Alabama is my safety school and I already applied. The problem is, the transcript evaluator that I picked (I’m international) is not very homeschool friendly. They say they can’t prepare an evaluation for me until I can get official documentation of my studies. But I’m homeschooled! Sighh… I’m kind of worried that my transcript and evaluation won’t be sent before December 1. I want to apply to the Honor’s College.

@metsfanAJM I usually decide if a school is a safety if my composite SAT score is at least 150 points above the school’s 75th percentile. I also check College Board and see the percentage of enrolled freshmen in my GPA range. Rider is my only safety because it’s in-state.

@minhoforever I was nominated twice! I did it last week. However, none of my nominees completed it, so I nominated new people.

150 points above the upper 75 isn’t really a safety tbh, it’s more like low match

Safeties for me are UofH and UT just because of the 7% and 10% rule. But getting into BME at UT Austin… :0

@foolish If it is a school with 750s at the 75th percentile and you have a 2400, then it probably isn’t a safety and is more like a match to high match as the school is probably very selective. But if it is a school with 670s at the 75th percentile and you have a 2160, then it might be a safety as it might not be selective. The less selective a school may be, the more compelling high SAT scores might be (I think) as long as the school doesn’t explicitly state that SAT scores are not valued as much as other colleges. This might be due to the school wanting to raise its middle 50% bracket. However, GPA can’t be ignored in this process. If one’s GPA is below the average for the school, then 150 points above the 75th percentile might only make it a high match to a low reach.

I know rutgers is a safety for me because all the students from my school above a specific threshold get in (3.2 gpa, 1700 sat or something around there).

a kid from my school’s naviance graph got denied from rutgers with a 2300+ SAT and high weighted GPA. confused foolish is confused.

I think Vandy and Emory are matches for me.

@foolish Probably because it was obvious that it was a safety for the kid, and there was no chance (s)he would attend.

Idk, a lot of people with high stats attend rutgers. It’s hard to turn down free :p

Free with lower ranking > expensive with higher ranking. Sad that some people don’t realize that.

Not worth spending a ton of money for undergrad.

Hmmm I’m wondering whether I should ask my teacher for a recommend via email or when I see him. Thing about doing it when I see him is that he might be swamped with work and there might be delays vs now when he has a bit of free time. What do you guys think?
