High School Class of 2015

From the High School Class of 2016 thread: “I’ll go to the highest ranked place that accepts me.”

What do you guys, as seniors, think?

Also, what a nasty surprise these little kids are in for when they realize the workings of USNWR and how they change over the years ;)

^ We aren’t seniors, and are only a year older than them.
Still, that’s just stupid. Even if you’re only concerned with academics, choosing a school on rank alone makes no sense, ranks aren’t difinitive anyways

The notion of “choosing an institution solely for it’s prestige” is incredibly credulous and naive. However, in our capitalist society its also incredibly prevalent. For the most part, students choose Ivy Leagues solely for their prestige and the assertion that they will provide a “better” education.

@QuizBaller The Alchemist is a great book.

@DunDun Yeah Micro and Macro in a week lol. I did skim through 5 Steps a few months back, but it was not a factor because it was really quick and I didn’t even look at graphs. I remembered a few concepts, but I didn’t know a single graph besides supply and demand hahah. I didn’t really know that graphs were important. I definitely got a 5 on Macro. I am not sure on Micro, the FRQs were hard so I might have gotten a 4.

Hey. I’ve been lurking for a while and finally made an account, and I’m in this class.

Sophomore Year schedule:
PIB (Pre-IB) LA 10
AP Calculus BC
PIB Biology
IB Chemistry 1
PIB/AP US History
IB Spanish 4
Choir

I also might self-study AP Psych.

Today was my last day of school, thankfully.
This summer, I’m taking Health online, doing summer league swimming, and volunteering at the local Shakespeare festival.

Seriously?!! WOW I’d LOVE to do that with you! LOL

@Pineapple, welcome to the club! :D

@ImSoAmbitious- My father teaches economics at the local college, so I got both doses of Micro and Macro from him. The test was as expected, and I think I got a five.

Pineappleblue: Whats IB Chemistry 1 ? All I know are SL and HL.

Also: AP Calculus BC, did you take AB before?

Yeah, I had made some careless errors in the last FRQ. In the first one, Idk if what I put for lump sum was correct. Anyways I put my expected points into appass and I got 75/90, the cutoff for a 5. Hopefully if one or two of my guesses was correct, I can get a 5.

So what else are you guys doing? I will be taking a Bio class at my state flagship U and will attend Summer@Brown. Also I will be studying for USABO, SciOlympiad, Math, PSAT, and chemistry. I might try to fit in one of my self-studies(World, Stat, Euro). Then I have summer reading and AP Bio summer homework. On a more fun note, I will be going to the beach, pool, and six flags; playing basketball; and chilling with my friends.

I also have to take Driver’s Education. It’s required in my state, and I don’t want to waste one of my school credits.

What are your guys schedules for next year? Mine will be:

Honors Chemistry
AP Biology
Honors Pre-Calc
Honors Genetics and Epidemiology
Honors Spanish III
Honors British Literature
Honors World History
Gym

Also, what SAT IIs will you guys be taking next year?

I want to take Bio, World, and Math II, but is taking 3 in one session not advised?

Hello class of 2015. I’m from the '14 thread and I thought I would join the conversation.

@imsoambitious: This summer I will be attending Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics. A very prestigious 1 month program that only 250 students are selected to attend. On top of that I am currently studying for the June 2nd SAT, will do my summer reading for AP English and get a head start on the 4 AP’s I am taking next year.

I am also interested in Summer@Brown. I will mostly likely do that next summer if my state’s Governor’s school shuts down due to insufficient funding. The Biochemistry/ Organic Chemistry course sounds amazing! :)

Also, I will be taking the Math II and Biology SAT Subject tests next year. Yes, taking three is not advised. I suggest taking Bio and Math II.

@Imsoambitious: Your schedule looks great to me! I would love to take a Genetics and Epidemiology class! Here’s my schedule:

AP Biology
AP English Language
AP Psychology - online
AP Human Geo - online
Honors US History - No AP
Honors Pre-Calc - Not allowed to take AP until Senior year :frowning:

The reason I have 6 classes is because Bio and English are two-course sequences. Meaning there is an honors prerequisite you have to fulfill in the fall in order to take AP in the spring.
Also, I am breaking a school record with this schedule. Since my school offers so few AP’s and there are few people that really care, the previous record for AP’s taken Junior year was 2.

Yeah Nate, you also have a great schedule. Your are definitely maximizing your opportunities by taking the online APs. Is it through your school district or an independent program? Yeah, my school also does not offer AP Word History. The course is AP level lol, the AP was taken off the beginning before this year because the teacher was annoyed by the AP syllabus. He felt too restricted by it. He encourages his kids to take the AP exam, which I will be doing.

My school is the best in the state, top 20 in the country, and I have one of the top schedules in the grade. Some kids are in AP Calculus already so they beat me in that aspect. I’m am quite salty because I should be in AP Calc next year, but my Math teacher changed in the middle of the year and the new one won’t let me skip pre-calc over summer :(.

Summer@Brown will probably be really fun. It was not my first choice. I also applied to Yale Ivy Scholars, it is a really prestigious leadership program. I was accepted, however they gave preference to seniors so they deferred my admission to summer 2013. It will give me a good backup for next year as I will probably as apply for some research programs.

@imsoambitious: Thank you! My school only offers 2, face-to-face AP’s for Juniors. This is why I really enjoy the online option. My online classes are through a program used by every public high school in North Carolina, NCVPS. They offer 15+ AP’s and many honors options. All state funded, leaving us not having to pay a dime :). Haha, that doesn’t seem fair to me. AP level work without the credit. I can see where your teacher is coming from though. The syllabus can be very binding and not allow a teacher to teach what they enjoy. Good luck with the AP World test!

Wow, the competition for valedictorian must be insane at your school! That stinks! You sound like you could handle AP Calculus. Many students skip pre-calc on here and move straight to AP.

Yes, I hope you enjoy it! You will have to tell me how it is. Oh well, I bet it will be a great experience for you next summer. Try to get some of the research opportunities. Those look great on college app’s.

@ImSoAmbitious- 8 classes? Our school only lets us have 7.

Also, my school is a recently new school, and our system is very relaxed. It allows me to “slip by” some AP courses. In addition, competition is not very fierce in my state.

Don’t take the Math 2 subject test before pre-cal. Trust me. Pre-Cal topics are found within it. Biology is full of #$@$. It is very simple. Nothing to study for. Honors level is completely enough.

@dudndunyang
IB Chem 1 is pretty much my school’s precursor to Chem SL. We’ve got a couple classes like that, that aren’t real IB courses but that our part of the school’s program. And for math, I took a class that was Precalc first semester and Calc 1 second semester.

@IMSOAMBITIOUS, My school also only lets us take 7 classes, like dundunyang. Plus, AP bio and AP chem are 2 periods. So next year I’ll have to sacrifice my lunch(sgawpresdgdagdop!) because I really want to do band but don’t want to give up academic courses.

Yeah, I can only take 7 classes too. I forgot to put the length. Gym is half year and Honors Genetics and Epidemiology is half year. The rest are full year. Usually it is supposed to be Gym+Drivers Ed as a full year course, but i am doing it over summer so I can take a half year elective. We have 8 periods, but we are required to have a study hall.
