High School Class of 2015

@imsoambitious: I kind of wish we had a study hall. That would be really nice. Since we only have 4 periods a day it would be impossible.

On Tuesday I have to go fight my guidance counselors to make sure I get AP Psychology and AP Human Geography. They are trying to say there is a “US History” prerequisite for them. That’s crap, the online course provider states the student must have at least a 3.00 GPA, and success in previous honors-level courses. I might end up going to the school board over this.

Sorry I have not gotten back to you. You asked about foreign language. Here is my whole schedule for 9th and 10th grade.

9th Grade Classes:
Geometry Honors-A
Biology Honors-B (92)
PE/Health-A
English I Honors-B (92)
World History Honors-A (currently)
Latin I-A (currently)
Algebra II Honors- A (currently)
Biomedical Technology- A (currently)

10th Grade Classes:
AP Statistics
Pre-Calculus Honors
Civics & Economics Honors
English II Honors
Biology II Honors
Physics Honors
AP Biology
Chemistry Honors

I am not taking any foreign languages because I took 1 in freshman year. I want to apply to the NC School of Science and Math so I had thought to drop Latin II for Physics Honors. If I make it, I will take Latin depending on how I do on my placement test. If I do not make it, then I will just take Latin II in 11th grade here.

@Yerhs, I would not have done that. Colleges like to see 4 years of foreign language and a minimum of 3. I would have dropped Stat, Bio II, or Econ instead. Why are you taking Bio II with AP Bio?

@imsoambitious: @Yerhs and I both live in NC. Almost all schools in NC require students to take Honors Biology 2 in the fall and AP Biology in the spring. I have to do this as well for AP Bio. It’s a two-course sequence.

What nate42 said. Lol. Also, I hate languages. I hope to never learn another one in my life. Anyway, I can already speak 3 including English and I can roughly speak Latin. So 4 languages! :)

@yerhs: I can completely relate. I will never step foot in another foreign language class in high school. I HATED Spanish III with a passion.

It depends on the teacher, honestly. French I in middle school was great because my teacher was pretty good, but when you get an insane teacher that throws snow at your class (check page 109 if you want to read that story, it’s funny), obviously, that class will suck.

Yeah, I hated French II.

@yerhs52, I just thought it was important to have foreign language credits in your transcript.

^ It is. All 4-year universities require at least two. But it is advised to take 3-4 levels.

so anyone who hopes to get into a good college should be serious about FL.

^ Exactly.

My teacher for Latin is so easy. Even latin 4 is easy but i just hate it. Anyway, Im sure that physics Honors would look better when applying to NCSSM.

@yerhs: Yeah I agree. Just make sure you can handle all of those courses. It’s going to be a challenge to maintain A’s in your classes.
But you can do it!

What do you guys have planned for the summer?

Sent from my DROID2 using CC

I will be volunteering this summer. I am not sure what else i am going to do. I was hoping to take an online class through NCVPS, but my guidance counselor said that i couldnt. When i asked why, she said because we do not like syudents getting ahead. So… Boring summer for me. Lol. :(

@yerhs: Wow! Don’t be afraid to go to the school board for what you want! I have a feeling that I am going to have to take AP Psychology and AP Human Geography through NCVPS next year. What class were you trying to take?

I am going to Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics for a month and doing my summer reading for English. I might go to the beach as well.

Thats cool tht ur going to summer ventures! I was trying to take Pre-calculus honors online so i can take ap calculus in 10th grade

@yerhs: Thanks! I hope it’s fun! Ahh I see, you could take Honors Anatomy or something through NCVPS. FLVS has some great options as well.

I wouldt take a science online. I was just hoping to take precalculus online because it was a math class.

@yehrs: Oh okay. You could do some prep for AP Bio, that’s what I’m going to do.

Yeah I was also trying to self-study Pre-calculus over the summer. They schools policy was that if a student has a 95 in Algebra 2 then the teacher can “recommend” them for skipping. The normal two teachers “recommend” anyone with a 95 or above. Since my math teacher left in the middle of the year, we got a new one. She only recommends two people per class. I am so angry, The normal Algebra II teacher recommends half of her classes. It does not make any sense why my teacher is doing this. All she is doing is giving me the opportunity to take the test to skip. So frustrating.
