@sweetcupcake, sorry, I’ll respond in a bit.

@ejames, calc III, AP Stats, AP Chem (self study), and maybe AP Gov self study.

@TheAtlantic + @TeamRocketGrunt: NFL is pretty big in Texas, and it’s super intense in my particular circuit (lucky me). Basically, you have to get 12 points to go to State, which is a very big deal, le sigh. You normally get 2 points if you place 8th, if there’s around 40 people competing in the event. The number of state qual points that you get varies depending on the size of the tournament. If you go to a larger one, like 90+, such as the one I went to two weeks ago, you get 2 state qual points just for breaking to finals. So yeah, it’s pretty complicated and pretty hard too. =P

@loltired: I took the SAT in 6th grade and got something around what your score was, haha. Not fun times. I didn’t even try though. The cutoff here was a whopping 219, a 3 point increase from last year, and I’m afraid it’s only going to get higher next year.
When are you planning to take the SAT again?

@sweetcupcake12: The thing is, my parents won’t let me do debate or any other extracurriculars until I do well on the SAT, so I want to get it done ASAP so that I can qual for state and do other things besides study for the SAT, haha. My school also pushes for people to take it in the spring, but I mean, they don’t stop us or anything from taking it early.

I also still have no idea as to what I’m taking next year. I’ve been avoiding thinking about it. =P

What non-Ivy schools would you guys like to go to? For me, Emory, Vanderbilt, WashU, JHU, and UVa all seem appealing. NYU, as well.

No prob @TeamRocketGrunt

I’m taking Ap Us Gov right now, and I think its a bit harder than the people on cc make it out to be. Maybe its because its a sophomore class at my school, so it the teachers take it more seriously.

my junior year schedule:

French 4 honors
AP world
Chem GT
AP micro/macroeconomics (its a combo course at my school)
Independent research GT (I have to apply for this course. If I don’t get in, it’ll b another AP course. Euro, apush, human geo or comp gov
pre calc honors
AP lang

Taking Sat French and math 2 spring of junior year

Emory (but, eww instate)
William & Mary
Tulane
Georgetown
American
UMiami
URichmond

@Almondjoy7
lol. You don’t even need a state bid in congress to compete at the Congress State Championships here.

do you guys think that doing school musicals is worth it?
we’re putting on grease this year and i really want to do it but i don’t know because apparently practice runs really long, possibly until 10pm the weeks before the production, so i don’t want to compromise my schoolwork or anything but it looks interesting

I’m a bit concerned about language fluency. I’m in French III, but I don’t feel as if I’ve learned anything. I’m proficient at Bengali ( speaking it; I’ve been getting rusty though) because it’s my native language, and I used to be fluent at Hindi when I was four years old on account of my family watching a lot of Hindi movies and TV shows, but I’ve forgotten most of it. I am, however, working to regain fluency in Bengali and Hindi by speaking with my parents more and watching Hindi movies :D

Do you guys think being proficient at SPEAKING (not reading or writing) two languages, one of which is your native language, is good enough? Or should I forgo gaining proficiency in Bengali and Hindi and go for proficiency in French?

@TeamRocketGrunt
lolStanford, UChicago, MiT, Caltech, UCs, Tufts. Not necessary in that exact order, but close.

@loltired
I don’t. The program’s ridiculously time consuming at our school, although I don’t know what it’s like at yours. A lot of my friends had about 2~3 weeks of school they had to catch up on after the play, and I know they were totally dying despite their relative lack of APs, honors, etc. classes.

@loltired: Eh, not particularly. I’m more of a math/sci person, so I’d never really do theatre, but if you’re a humanities type, I’d say go for it. I have a few friends in the drama department here, and they seem to do relatively well while maintaining two-three APs and ECs.

I’m not really a humanities type either. I literally have like no ECs though especially because I put my sport on standby this year. Sigh.

Hoorah for the snow day tomorrow, though! We’re expecting 6-8 inches lol

@TeamRocketGrunt: My dream school is UChicago. It’s pretty much up there with the Ivies though, lol. I’m also really looking into Rice, if I want to stay in-state. I’m saving my real hardcore college researching to the summer though, so I’m not sure where else I really want to go. NYU seems pretty appealing.

@TheAtlantic: Yeah, I swear, Texas is the only place where Congress is actually legit. And it’s moreso in my circuit. Just my luck. =P

@TeamRocketGrunt: “Good enough” for what? What is the standard you’re trying to achieve regarding learning languages?

@loltired: I think if you’re intersted, you should go for it. I know theater kids, and the time commitment is pretty big, but they really enjoy it, so they find it worthwhile. I would never have enough talent to be in the musical, or else I would love to work behind the scenes or something. But you are SO LUCKY you have a snow day. The wind made it bitterly cold here, but there’s not even a chance of snow, so to school I go. =(

//

Trying to figure out this junior year schedule thing and it’s giving me a headache, ugh.

@almondjoy7, I want to show colleges that I’m fluent in at least one other language so that I can meet the foreign language reqs.

I’m not even sure if I want to do it, but literally every single one of my friends are. Maybe I’ll talk to her about working behind the scenes.

@TeamRocketGrunt My sister is basically fluent in a language but can’t write or read it. Speaking a language is definitely important, but I feel like the reading/writing part is probably just as important. But same, I literally made a 102 in spanish III and I can’t even speak in full spanish sentences.

@TeamRocketGrunt - I am planning on applying to Cambridge, which is up there, and probably UF. I haven’t paid attention to most non-Florida schools yet. I just want to do well on the ACT and SAT first.

Is anyone else considering doubling up on a Science to take more APs next year? If I do that, I can take 6, which could be fun.

I really want to self study AP Gov…

Oh also I plan on applying to a few ivies as well as MIT, UChicago, Stanford maybe, and UNC Chapel Hill as a safety
