High school class of 2016

@observeraffect: Mine gives you a GPA (4.0), but I calculated the average myself. When you have two people with the same GPA, they give the superior rank to whomever has the higher average.

@TheAtlantic @almondjoy7:

Ah, that makes more sense. Since my current school doesn’t do many tournaments and I’m switching schools for next year (where there are tournaments), do you guys think a year is a practical time frame to be doing well at the state level at debate? I’ll have one year before applications, you see.

I think it’s just based on how good you are (And if there’s a debate camp in your area maybe)
If you’re willing to think of unique arguments/research past planetdebate you should instantly be better than about 50% of the state.

@TeamRocketGrunt: Is that weighted or UW? It’s impressive for both, regardless, haha.

@TheAtlantic: You broke my heart when you said you hate almondjoys! (jk, but STILL. They are GOOD!). But yeah, everything you said is right. TOC, state success, national tourney level success is probably something that colleges will look at.

@observereffect: Mine just averages the grades, but you get 7 points added on to your average for an honor class, and 10 for an AP class. That’s how we determine class rank.

@TeamRocketGrunt: Seconding @TheAtlantic again. It really depends what event you do, how many tournaments you go to, and how much dedication you have, really. I’ve been doing it super often for a year and a half, and have been doing well at local tourneys at got 3rd at a national level tourney (not to brag or anything…). We’ll see how state goes, though. But I honestly think you can do it, especially if you go to a good camp!

And as it is, PF is already easiest of the 3. You should have no problem next year

@almondjoy7 - Woah, your school weighs a lot…a 104.5? The highest possible grade you can get with 5 APs is a 104.3 here. D:

I honestly wouldn’t know. Texas probably has a lot of good policy camps. Utah & UGA both have camps, but as a PFer I don’t know how good they are outside PF

@Almondjoy7: It’s unweighted.

Not gonna lie, Downton Abbey is pretty freaking good.

So apparently, I can’t take Civics and Economics junior year, so now I had to switch it out with an AP class. Now I have 5 AP classes next year :-P. I wish I would’ve taken more than one AP class like you guys.

My weighted GPA is 4.5, and my unweighted is 3.83 (I don’t know how to convert it). I’m not sure what a good GPA is anymore.

I just finished Sherlock’s third season.

Absolutely horrible final episode. I can’t believe they ran out of ideas after 9 episodes and dozens of Sherlock Holmes stories to draw inspiration from.

I don’t think any of you care but I’ll be on this account insead of Battle4La.

I care. 10char

@TeamRocketGrunt At least now a special someone will be back :wink:

^Not sure if that was a Sherlock reference or a reference to something else…

@TeamRocketGrunt - YOU WATCH SHERLOCK?! I concur…but I didn’t HATE it. Going to keep this vague so I won’t accidentally spoil anything for anyone else, but I thought the “thing” he did in front of the camera was adorable (probably only because I’m a girl) even though the whole thing was obviously a trick and both ends knew it.

And also, I was multi-tasking when I was watching that episode, so the “flipping on the lights and her seeing HIM instead of him” took me by surprise. XD And I was TOTALLY NOT EXPECTING THE ENDING, although the sudden stop in his plot line WAS suspicious, looking back.

Word vomit, I just really love this show ksdjflskdjf.

There’s going to be so much whiteknighting now.

@catchinginfinity: Yeah, I do lol. I thought that was pretty clever, actually. I don’t think the second party knew it at the time, though; she probably believed it lol. Also, I was kind of expecting something like what happened when Sherlock went upstairs after doing the thing with the camera. If you remember, in the first episode, that text was deciphered rather quickly and not by Sherlock, which I found rather odd.

I just hated how they went to such a cliche storyline; I mean, for God’s sake, they had a TON of SH stories to draw inspiration from, and they went in a completely opposite direction.

@catchinginfinity, TeamRocketGrunt Eh, but the makeup department did do a good job making Mads Mikkelson look nothing like himself as Magnussen.

@loltired Did you turn in your application on time for Summer Ventures? I sent mine at 11:56.#:-S I hope that doesn’t look bad.

Does anyone use the CC app?

@anonemuss - HAHA yeah. :D

I mean, things were pretty predictable, but I still enjoyed it.

@gbrl10 Isn’t it actually due tonight?

I decided not to apply because I didn’t feel like answering the student section but LOL I’ve gotten 89 emails telling me to hurry up and apply before the deadline! Good luck with everything, though!

@loltired Haha, thanks. It was actually due January 31st, all I need to do is send my transcript which is due the 15th. My “What have you learned from these science and math clubs” response was pretty weak. Hopefully my recommendations will be good. Good luck with NCSSM. Do you know how to send the transcript through CFNC? I keep looking at the list of colleges, but I don’t see NCSSM on there.

Wow okay so new semester means new classes and I literally despise my schedule this semester. Maybe I’m just slacking off but I literally have no time to do anything, which makes no sense, because I had more stuff going on last semester. ALSO am I the only one who thinks Calculus BC is easier than AP Stats? I can’t describe stuff for the life of me and I hate reading the textbook. I made an 84 on our first quiz (6 points off because I read the question wrong but still)… but I scored a 105 on our last calculus quiz. The same teacher teaches both classes, but our stats class is about double the size of our calculus class so that might have an effect?? :-/

@gbrl10 " In order to be considered for the program, you must submit your completed application by February 4, 2014. (We have extended the due date because of inclement weather in late January.)"

I feel like the essay responses probably don’t carry that much weight, so I don’t think that one response will make or break you hahah. Thank you and uh I honestly have no idea. “The NCSSM Office of Admissions will accept transcripts from March 1st until March 15th.” is what it says for NCSSM applicants but I’m not sure about SVSM. Also, apparently my school is using the PowerSchool thing to send transcripts so I have no idea what effect that will make. I’d suggest trying to reach your counselor for help!
