@loltired - What chapter/topic are you on? I’m taking stats right now too.

@catchinginfinity Chapter 2, about bias and ways of sampling and stuff about experiments

I swear it takes me about double the time to do homework for Stats than for calculus and I have no idea what I’m doing half the time because I always second guess myself or overthink everything

How to deal with incompetent teachers?

@SwaggyC you probably won’t have much luck with changing the teacher but you could try getting a tutor or studying on your own and using resources like Khan Academy etc

@loltired I already asked my counselor. She said I needed to email Summer Ventures. My friend already emailed her, so I’m just waiting for her to get a response.

I miss SPAN. It didn’t update until after 24 hours, but it told me a lot more information. The app for Powerschool tells me more information than the desktop version.

@gbrl10 Wow your counselor actually responds wow wish mine was like that lol

What’s SPAN? PowerSchool was like a work of magic around here because we had never had anything like it and it basically forced our teachers to actually tell us how we did on stuff

@loltired It is what our school had before Powerschool. SPAN would post grades a day after the teachers would post them. Although it did let us see our UW and weighed GPA, our grades since elementary school, and our schedule. Powerschool just tells us our grades, our weighed GPA, and if you have the app, your schedule.

I know, it’s amazing how quickly our counselors/teachers respond. They usually respond in a day. I also sent an email to Collegeboard last week about AP Physics, and they responded in the same day.

@loltired - Wait, stats is a half-year class for you? Not sure if that’s what you meant in your original post.

@catchinginfinity yes! we have block scheduling, so my teacher crams stats into the 3 months or so before the AP exam. We covered the entire first chapter in one day lol.

@gbrl10 WHAt that sounds awesome really. My teachers take forever to update stuff to be honest, they have the grades but add them to powerschool maybe once every week or two.

Yay reading an entire cal prep book and bio prep book in three months ;)

please send help

@loltired - Wait until you get to confidence intervals/hypothesis testing…worst unit so far. People complain that probability is difficult, but I actually liked it because it was more math than usual. Confidence intervals are completely pointless imo - literally just saying “I am 95% confident that the true mean/proportion is between x and y”.

Maybe I hate statistics because it’s like 4 minutes of reading/analyzing and 30 seconds of math. And drawing graphs and stuff just to prove one thing is so tedious. D: What textbook are you guys using?

@TeamRocketGrunt @catchinginfinity I found Sherlock to be extremely disappointing, I mean I just want them to solve a mystery in one episode instead of taking the entire series and bull****ing their way through,. He should have ruined Magnussen someway instead of doing what he did. In the end, it seemed like the writer couldn’t think of anything else but to bring back you-know-who. I can’t believe that was a season finale, my favorite show was turned to crap.

On another hand, @TeamRocketGrunt, any advice how to improve PF debating skills? I just came off a tournament which we thought we did good in but went 0-4. I was devastated because I thought we went 2-2. I got 103 points if that makes sense, my partner had only 90. He wrote neg and we got neg every single time. His opening speech was literally a flashback to the 1950’s and I had to read it.

@catchinginfinity
We’re using Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis 2nd edition by Peck, Roxy; Olsen, Chris; Devore, Jay L… you? and ooh I am not looking forward to that. To be honest, I really hate describing stuff. I don’t mind drawing graphs and charts but the describing is just tedious and time consuming and it gets old really quickly. My teacher usually assigns like 10 problems for homework but each will take up a third or half a page and will take like 5 minutes to write. I think I will struggle with probability because I’m pretty weak in it but I think it will be especially beneficial to me because we haven’t really covered any difficult probability problems in my previous classes. Also, I thought you liked stats?

@TeamRocketGrunt: Haha have fun with that! If you need some Bio help PM me questions, as I did take the new exam last year. =)

@SwaggyC: Just try to find online resources to help supplement the course. Maybe you can also talk to the guidance counselor about the inefficency of the teacher?

@loltired: I’m a more calc kind of kid, so I suspect that I’ll find calc easier than stats. Even though they’re both math classes they’re pretty different in their subject material, so it’s understandable why your stat homework takes so much longer.

@TeamRocketGrunt: I can’t believe your GPA is so perfect. How even.

I have a WHAP test tomorrow so I’m dedicating all of tonight to studying for it, aside from anatomy homework that is also due tomorrow. I heard it was easy though, but it’s longer than normal, and we don’t know what kind of essay will be on the test. So, I’m crossing my fingers and toes and hoping it turns out alright.

@Almondjoy7 - I can’t believe I’ve never seen WHAP used as an acronym for APWH before. It fits so perfectly. They offer anatomy classes at your school?

@loltired - Not really. I enjoyed the class when we were doing probability, but the second we finished that section of the AP exam, I hated it again. I’m sure you’ll do fine with probability, I had trouble with it at first but it gets really easy with examples/practice. (Plus, no satisfying conditions! You get to go straight to the math. :D)
We use The Practice of Statistics (3rd Ed.) by Yates, Moore, and Starnes. Apparently it’s the most widely-used textbook for AP Stats? I like it though, the authors actually have a sense of humor. :P

@apandia - So harsh haha. But yeah, I get what you mean. What was your favorite episode?

@catchinginfinity Hounds of Baskerville by far. Brilliant. Yours?

@apandia - A Scandal in Belgravia. I thought it was very disturbing at first (for obvious reasons), but I ended up really liking Irene. Hounds comes close, though.

Season 2 was my favorite season overall (although I liked 1 and 3 too, just a little less)! My least favorite episode had to be John’s wedding…it actually kind of bored me, maybe because I was multi-tasking?

We had our first AP Biology test today. 95% of the class failed. My honors biology teacher said “That’s standard”, which doesn’t seem right to me.

@catchinginfinity :Thanks for reminding me of that awesome episode. I’m going to watch those two again over the weekend. You’re right, Season 2 was amazing, and I expected too much from the show as many don’t keep their consistency over seasons. Furthermore, John’s wedding was pretty bad. Hats off to the visual effects artists and the actors themselves though, they made the show bearable.

@gbrl10 : We just had our first Spanish 3 H test of the semester a week ago and 90% of the class failed, I got an A only because I studied very long and have a great foundation of Spanish and one other kid got a B.
