High school class of 2016

@jih6612 Got tons of time, so you can definitely approve a lot. You should try practice tests on both SAT and ACT, just to see which one works for you more, though. Just in case.

Yay it worked

@PoisonIvy20

@Woandering‌ Ok thanks! Have you used the Real ACT prep book or the SAT prep book??

Homework or Clippers game?

@jih6612 I used the SAT prep book for SAT. I haven’t taken the ACT, or prepared for it yet, although I do plan to take a practice one first.

Clipperz!!!

Thoughts on the racism and response?

@Apollo11 A lot of funny memes came out of it. To be honest this was good for the Clippers because he’s been a terrible owner for a long time and now they can fix that. As for the racism part he’s a known racist so it was just eh to me.

@PoisonIvy20‌ Stanford, but even if I go to Intel ISEF next year, I highly doubt I’ll be getting in. Odds are that I’ll end up going to UCF or UF. Maybe Florida Polytechnic if I decide to go into computers instead of science research. (Odds of that are slim.)

I’m failing this calc exam. God, I picked the worst time to have a mental breakdown, and it affected my studying for the exam.

@TeamRocketGrunt‌ - Hang in there, bud. You may have been hit, but you aren’t knocked out.

You guys have great #1 college choices and its great that we’re thinking about this stuff early. I don’t have a definite choice yet but I know I’m probably gonna stay close to home, so I’m researching schools in the Northeast region (other than Ivies, if that wasn’t already obvious by my username :wink: )

@SwaggyC‌ I know that’s great school. Too bad I’m on the opposite coast. What’s your fave thing about it so far?

@jlh6612‌ What programs are you looking at in the school? You ACTs are good right now, just a bit more practice then take it again sometime in junior year, I’m sure you’ll do better!

@Woandering‌ Wow, another great school I’m too far away from. What are you looking to study?

I’m just going for any school that will offer me substantial merit aid since I don’t qualify for any finaid. Preferably something in the top 20.

Is a 9 on the ACT essay considered “good”? For the top tier schools, I mean. My composite is a 35 (35E 34M 36R 34S), but my essay was “too rigid in structure.” I’m pretty sure the ACT isn’t superscored, so do you guys think I should take it again and risk a lower score to bring up my essay?

@PosionIvy20 Finance :stuck_out_tongue: I love their BA/MA program.

9 correlates to the Top 6% of test takers. So you tell me @TeamRocketGrunt
EDIT: For context, Harvard Writing (25th / 75th): 8 / 10

I was looking at Philips Andover’s course catalog, and I got SO envious. It may be too late for me, but I’m making sure my kids go there. Classes in Environmental History, Fluid Mechanics, and Jazz History are not offered anywhere else. I really wish I knew about Andover back in middle school.

@afroninja26 Isn’t it insanely hard to get in, though?

@afroninja26 - SAME. i found out about andover/exeter last year. D: i mean, they have freaking “proof and persuasion” and an improv class. why do i go to a crappy public school? the “coolest” classes my school offers are APs. ._. forever living vicariously through those kids.

@Woandering‌ - it IS insanely hard to get in, but i know so many people who go there that the thought of me attending has become kind of tangible.

Hi guys! Haven’t been on here in a while. :slight_smile: This is a bit of an amateur/dumb question to ask, but how bad do you guys think it is to have a lot of B’s on your report card especially if I want to go to Berkeley?

@annbern Bad news is, Berkeley, and indeed most of the UCs, puts a lot of emphasis on grades. Perhaps, if you have excellent test scores, above average ECs, it could work. Have you checked, somehow, if your school is known as a grade deflator at all? Will you be ranked, and if so, how high are you at?

Has anyone heard of the AP Capstone program?
