@ErenYeager Yup! In Junior year, if you do well enough on the PSAT you could qualify as a National Merit Scholar and that opens up a lot of doors for scholarships, full tuition, and other free money from different colleges and universities

@Smrtical exactly! Honestly, im trying to keep in mind that tons of smartish people get NM so it’s not that big a deal in colleges. Hopefully that’ll keep the stress down. I wish Sophomore year scores could count.

@Woandering
So what did you do to study for the SAT? That’s a great PSAT score.

@Apollo11 loads of problems mostly. For English stuff, I went to a class every weekend and asked him questions if I had any. Practice, practice, practice. Get as many practice tests as possible, and look up every test taking strategy.

Thanks. Not so sure I’ll get as great a score this time round.

I’m planning on doing a ton of reading comprehension problems for the PSAT. I’ve already started. I figured I’d start with a practice test a week.

Who’s taking what standardized tests next year? I’m registered for the ACT, SAT and SAT Math II on September 13, October 11, and November 8, respectively. I’m also planning on taking the Chem subject test on June 6.

@Smrtical Already took the ACT and two SAT IIs (bio and math 2). Going to take the PSAT/SAT and Chem SAT II this year.

@TeamRocketGrunt What’s the curve like for Math II? I mean, I’m planning on not missing any, but you never know. Also, how did you do on the ACT?

@Smrtical I remember it being fairly lenient. I think you can skip 6 or so questions and still make an 800? Sometimes, if they’re being generous, you can skip up to 7 or 8 and still manage an 800. Generally, I think a raw score of 44 would get you an 800. I got an 800 on my second try (first try, which was a 750, was in October, I think, after a week of Barron’s; second try was in December after two weeks of Chung).

I got a 35 composite; 35 W, 34 M, 36 R, 34 S

Lol with that ACT score you don’t even need to take the SAT.

And yeah you can skip usually 7-8 questions and get an 800.

I’m probably taking the act this September and my school has everyone take the PSAT midfall too. World History sat2 and some other one this spring,

@TeamRocketGrunt @ErenYeager Okay, I just don’t want a repeat of my math score in the SAT last year. I missed one question and got a 770. I know it’s a great score, but c’mon.

@ErenYeager I’m taking the PSAT/SAT because the RSI application requires the PSAT, and if I take the PSAT, I may as well take the SAT to go for NMSQT. On top of that, my ACT essay score wasn’t the best, and most colleges don’t superscore the ACT (I don’t think).

Where can I find cutoff scores for the PSAT scores by state?, for the merit scholarships, stuff like that.
Thanks.

@PoisonIvy20 I found this: <a href=“***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores*** - National Merit Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/1580340-class-of-2015-nmsf-qualifying-scores-p1.html

Thanks @Smrtical helped a lot! I have sort of an idea now.

need a 219 sucks for me…

why does it say these posts were yesterday…

I need a 221 from a 199, @ErenYeager

I noticed that too, @ErenYeager .

@ErenYeager I’d already get it in my state (cutoff is like 209; I got a 212).

Whew, only 210 for SC. I’m aiming for 230+ though.
