High school class of 2016

@Woandering‌ I recommend getting the Official Sat Study Guide with DVD, PWN math, CR Erica M., Grammar Erica M., Sat black book, and Direct Hits Volume 1 and 2. (I haven’t purchased some of these books yet, but I know for a fact that they all have great reviews and are really helpful) There’s a link to a PDF for Direct Hits V1: 系统发生错误;

@Tajmahal I’ve bought several resources for the SAT, and I honestly don’t feel like paying for more. I’ve been surfing for more free resources online, and there do seem to be quite a few. I just need to get my reading and writing up about 40-50 points each. It’s frustrating about these last few points though.

@Woandering‌ I haven’t even taken a sat practice test, so I have no clue where I am. I’m planning on reading one prep book at a time and then taking a practice test on that particular section. Like I know if I did take the test, I would score average or even below average, so what’s the point. I hope these prep books help a lot! I haven’t taken any prep courses or anything.

@Tajmahal Good practice tests are hard to come by, and they’re on those books, so use them wisely. Don’t just rush through them all, but do make sure you get through all of them in time for the test. When are you taking it?

@Woandering‌ I’m planning on taking it either in January or March. I feel like if I take it in January, it’s better because it’s right after break. I want to apply to RSI, so I think I might have to study harder and take it in January. I’m also taking the psat (studying for that by using the sat books I have).

@Tajmahal‌
If you’re talking about the 2013 October PSAT, I got a 212 on that one and my score was reported in December, I think. You typically find out between November and December depending on your school. Some counselors hold it until January, I’ve heard.

@Slytherclaw12‌
The Southern Asian with a piano is very cliche; there are so many of us, particularly from Texas, North Carolina, and California.

@TeamRocketGrunt‌ lol That is so cliche it’s expected, just like how Asians are supposed to be good at math

Um, hi everyone?

This is probably awkward but I just found this thread and thought I’d pitch in, as a member of the class of 2016. Like everyone else, I’m super nervous for PSAT season. I got a 226 on my last PSAT but live in a state with a ridiculously high cut off… hopefully I can break the 230 mark :slight_smile: I also just signed up for the SATs and my SAT II’s. Ugh! The academic stress is off the charts. Glad there is a place we can commiserate.

Wow you people are pretty good, I got a 181 on my PSAT. I don’t know if I like the SAT testing as a measure of college readiness, I do really good in my classes and I got 2 5’s on my 2 AP’s this year, I feel like not being able to afford SAT classes or prep books really hurts :(

Need a unique name for my fantasy football team and being completely unoriginal I came here. Any good ones?

@hailbo I know how you feel, I got a 180.

Yeah, honestly I think the SATs are quite flawed and arbitrary- a rather poor indication of anything other than standardized test-taking ability. But unfortunately we’ve got to put up with them for now :confused: At least we’ll be around, though, for the changes to the SAT in 2015. College board is remodeling everything to make performance less contingent on preparation, which might help @halibo if you plan to take them in the fall of senior year.

I probably will be unhelpful coming up with a name as I have absolutely no idea what fantasy football is.

@Cloudchamber The new SAT doesn’t apply to us as it begins spring of 2016, after all college apps are due…

@hailbo Is there a library where you could borrow SAT prep books?

@anonemuss Oh, that’s too bad, we just miss it :frowning: Thank you for the clarification, though.

@Cloudchamber‌

“Yeah, honestly I think the SATs are quite flawed and arbitrary- a rather poor indication of anything other than standardized test-taking ability”

prove it bro

“Frey and Detterman (2004) show that the correlation between SAT scores and g is .857”

I think the SAT is a bit silly, but there really is very little a college can do besides it to account for the difference in school rigor.

@Cloudchamber‌
“Yeah, honestly I think the SATs are quite flawed and arbitrary- a rather poor indication of anything other than standardized test-taking ability”

I used to say this about the ACT when I thought I’d get a low score and I wanted to explain it away.

OH OH SHOTS FIRED! MY BOY GOING IN ON THAT CLOUDCHAMBER!

" @TeamRocketGrunt‌ is throwing shade, but can he catch it? Find out on the next episode of CCers gone wild!"

@foolish‌ @AmbiD77‌

Sometimes I do coordinate geometry problems…without graph paper.
