Finished my summer homework! I sat down at my desk for two days finishing a memoir and a dialectical journal. Did a month’s worth of work in a single day…-.-

@lanflan: I’m also WAY behind on summer assignments. My school assigns ridiculous amounts, and I’ve barely started it at all. I start school in two weeks, so this should be interesting…

Ummm Introduction Time…

How’s this?

I SAID BOOM BOOM BOOM! LET ME HEAR YOU SAY WAYOOOOOOO!
(kudos to kids who jam to this song)

Ahh, that that’s done; hello and goodbye.

Sorry I have to go return some videotapes.
(special kudos [and heart points] to those who catch that reference)

@Woandering How were you able to encourage your sister to self-study an AP? I have a brother, also entering 9th grade, who is pretty smart but completely unmotivated. I tried telling him that it would be good for him in the long run but instead he just complained about how much work that would be.

My school doesn’t give summer assignments. They give us a book to read over the summer, but it’s pretty easy, like Divergent or the Fault in Our Stars. Some of my friends who are taking AP Chemistry have to do a summer packet, but it’s “suggested” and they have time to do it when they get back to school.

I’m so bored with the rest of my summer! I’m going on college tours and prepping for the SAT. I’m thinking of taking the October one, but I’m thinking it might conflict with the PSAT. Should I take the SAT in October or after the PSAT?

Ooh also I’ve started looking at colleges–like actually researching, well bcus this time next year we’re all gonna be starting the application process. Top Choice…well you can tell by my avi lol

Curious…What are all of your TOP choices, right now, like at this moment?

@alzhao Well, I’m actually getting her to self study with me this year, so that she has to keep up. My parents also play a role in motivating her.

@PoisonIvy20 Take it in October. Just by prepping for SAT, you’re prepping for the PSAT, too.

My favorite reaches are (in order of liking) Claremont McKenna, Northwestern, Harvard, Harvey Mudd.

I have a bunch of math and a huge boring collection of essays to read for summer. How long till school starts for you guys? Mine is in about 15 days.

@Foodlover001 can I transfer to your school?? pretty please? between the 10 APUSH essays (yes this is not an exaggeration) and a beginning-of-the-year test to study for, entire chapter of bio notes and a 50 slide powerpoint, hundreds of calc problems, and Huck Finn and four Zora Neale Hurston essays to read, you could say I’m a bit jealous

@PoisonIvy20 I’m taking it in October. I’m not going to have any time to study during the school year and I think it’s best to take it early before the sleep deprivation sets in besides, the have QAS in october but not november, and if I end up retaking it I would like to see what I did wrong

@Woandering my brother is ridiculously unmotivated, how do you get your sister motivated? my mom thinks I can personally help get him into college. lol.

@Almondjoy7 Yay procrastination buddies!!! I have a ridiculous amount but I don’t start until the 3rd of september. I need to submit APUSH essays by the 22nd though, and I still have to write 7 (and the 7 hardest ones at that)

What’s up guys? My summer has been busy so far but I won’t have anything to do by the end of this week… I had 2 different legal/law internships but everything’s nearly done. Right now I’m doing the same as you are @PoisonIvy20 except with the ACT.

By the way, since there are several options throughout the year for you to take the SAT and only one for the PSAT you should just take the SAT when ever your sure you’ll get the highest grade possible. The PSAT is a decent indicator in where you’ll have to work on the for SAT so maybe you should wait for your scores to come back then study away any weak spots so you’ll know you’ll ace the real deal. (You can do this with practice test too and actually study for the SAT exclusively and your PSAT results will likely reflect.)

The fewer amount of times you take the test the better it looks on your transcript, right? Harvard is basically the crème de la crème of the Ivies in ranking (or it least it was, and it probably will be again since Harvard and Princeton are literally always swapping spots) so you’ll want to match up to the competition. My own top school is Columbia University.

On a completely different note, does anyone know about the new ACT Aspire? I might be taking it too if it’s what I think it is.

@lanflan I’m so sorry to hear that! That is so much work. But hey, at least you’ll be prepared. I don’t know what to expect from APUSH.

@lanflan n WHat do you mean by this: I think it’s best to take it early before the sleep deprivation sets in besides, the have QAS in october but not november, and if I end up retaking it I would like to see what I did wrong"

What is QAS?

@Woandering
My school started on last Thursday (but I moved in the Saturday before that).

@sunsh0wers I’m doing lab research too so I know how you feel. I’ve only skimmed my assignments Researching is hard

@lanflan: Thank goodness I don’t have to write 10 essays, haha. I have like 50 chemistry problems that are scaring me though, for AP Chem, plus all my other stuff.

@PoisonIvy20: I think I’d love to go to Columbia or Rice. Those are pretty much reaches for everyone though.

Hope everyone has a good school year! I hope it goes by super fast, too! I’m ready for it to be June!

Usually I’m really excited for school to start, but this year I feel kinda different. Last year was the first year I took AP classes and along with Water Polo/Swim Team I stayed up late a lot doing homework especially in the beginning of school. This year I’m taking 4 AP’s, doing 2 new Clubs, doing Volunteer work for once, then study for SAT’s as well, I really just wanna little more of summer break. I don’t think It will be too bad but I really need to work on procrastination, it killed me last year.

@hailbo Same deal here. Honestly a little scared of the amount of work I’ll be having, mainly because I need to be self-motivated to self-study APs.

Oh hey class of 2016!

@PoisonIvy20 QAS is Question Answer Service. It’s where you pay a small fee and after you finish the test, college board sends you a copy of the test along with an answer key and what you put. It’s basically seeing what you did wrong on the test, which is something I would want to take advantage of should I retake :)

Oh and in answer to your other question, my top choices right now are Yale and Stanford. lol. Also Harvard, Princeton, and Brown, which is slightly more realistic because they have my sport. But still. lol.

@hailbo glad to see there’s another swimmer/polo player here! is your school super committed/ are you looking to play in college? my school Is CRAZY committed and it’s a little much sometimes

@lanflan My school isn’t too committed, we have varsity players who play at a club when it isn’t water polo season but I do it mostly to have fun and be active, I like having a break from intellectual stuff between school and homework. I’m not looking to play in college, I might do inter mural swim or waterpolo or I might just swim just for exercise.
