High school class of 2016

@rumorsareflying‌
You can major in a non-science field and still have a good shot at medical school, but I dunno if the same logic applies to law schools. Just something to consider.

–
Got my PSAT score back today. 233 composite (77 CR, 76 M, 80 W), so I’m pretty happy. I’ve been thinking more and more about medical school. The specialty I want to go into (radiation oncology) is super competitive, so I need to start making myself competitive from now to stand a good chance. Some med students I know recommend taking a gap year at some point to do research, and since I’m already doing research now, my gap year idea seems more and more enticing. My dad’s on board with it as long as I travel internationally at least a little rather than just work.Haven’t really spoken to my mom about it yet.

Six of my friends got into Ivy/Ivy-tier schools. Three got into MIT, one got into Cornell, one got into Columbia, and another got into UPenn. I thought MIT’s decision to release its acceptances on 12/13/14 at 15:16 was brilliant.

I recently bought a PS4 (woo video games), and I played The Last of Us. Probably one of the best experiences of my life. The game moved me to tears on three occasions (something hardly any form of media has ever done). It’s a masterpiece; every other video game just feels like trash compared to it. Has anyone else here played it? If so, thoughts/opinions?

Also–what do you guys do to get inspired? I’m starting a startup with the friend who’s going to UPenn (she’ll be studying at Wharton), and I’m in charge of actually coming up with the idea, but I haven’t had much luck.

/end long post

@TeamRocketGrunt‌

Welcome back!

I feel like I’m stuck in a dream I had a couple months (weeks, same diff) back @-)

@TeamRocketGrunt‌

P.S In the meantime, I have surpassed you in number of posts.

Hello class of 16, anyone doing econ/business law?

@JaeHwanLoL‌

I’d definitely be interested and will be studying some of that. I’m mainly interested in mathematical econ and banking though.

@JaeHwanLoL‌ Yep.

Got a 9 on an AP Lang essay! :slight_smile:

First exam today, Spainsh is fun (not) :expressionless: but better than math & AP Chem will be

Congrats, @rumorsareflying‌ , that’s awesome!

So a bunch of my friends got into Harvard/Yale/Stanford/other similarly competitive schools, and none of them are really very remarkable at all. Happy for them, yes, but don’t much know what to think.

@LikeThis‌

Do you know everything about them though? They might be doing something really time-consuming outside of school.

@‌Woandering

Yeah… no…

Makes me feel more confident, but kinda disappointed too. Some of these people are real a-holes.

@LikeThis‌

Haha I know the feeling. When people who clearly don’t deserve good things get the best things.

Welcome to life. Being as asshole isn’t always bad.

@LikeThis‌

kinda random but you’re a Wonder Girls/KPOP fan?

Haven’t been around in a while, but midterms for today are done and I’m sitting around at school, haha.

Got National Merit and was seriously so thrilled/shocked. Totally didn’t study as much as I should have. Congrats to all of you that got it as well!!

@TeamRocketGrunt‌ Welcome back!! I also think a gap year is a super cool idea, and traveling internationally on top of that would be such a dream.

@LikeThis‌: I only know of two people who got into their Early schools, all of my other friends were deferred by schools like Stanford, Duke, and UPenn. Idk what’s up.

Two more days of midterms and then I’m done… I totally need this break.

Any of you started looking at summer programs yet?

@Almondjoy7‌ I haven’t looked into summer programs, but I’m thinking about taking one or two dual enrollment courses online over summer, on top of an internship. I’m planning on going into biomedical science, so I’m really interested in taking a college-leveled Anatomy and Physiology class. It’d be a great opportunity to boost my GPA. (I’m trying hard for salutatorian.) As for interning, I’m actually starting an internship in January at a dental lab. Really hoping to leave a good impression so I can stay with that company over summer if it goes well. But if not, my school has an internship program that connects students to industry sponsors.

@‌Chrysanthemum14

Haha, yes!

Submitted all of my Scholastic Art and Writing stuff today…Now just to wait 'til January 31 for awards haha.

I have two study abroad scholarships apps that I really need to finish before Christmas. I’m so nervous about finishing and submitting them because I want these scholarships so badly!

I haven’t really started thinking about summer programs either. Maybe I’ll just use the cash I’ve been saving for years to go stay with my best friend’s family in Italy for the summer and learn Italian (as much as I can in two months, haha)
