Lol good job on surpassing me in post number. I may catch up eventually

Haven’t heard from you in a while! How’s life?
And yeah the gap year would be pretty awesome. I think I just need a year to kind of mature. I’m a year younger than most of you since I skipped a grade, and recent events have shown me that maybe I’m not as mature as I’d like to be. Idk, it’s weird. I just don’t want any issues to arise in college, you know?

–

The Colbert Report ended a few days ago. It was a shame–I’m a huge fan of Colbert. My friend introduced me to another political satirist today–H.L. Mencken. He was reading some of Mencken’s work and said that the humor reminded him of me. I read some of his stuff today. It’s brilliant. Highly recommend checking him out.

I start my RSI application tomorrow. I stand no chance at actually getting in, but it’s still worth a shot.

@awakeningvenus: I actually got my PSAT at school. They handed me the entire booklet + a score report a week before we got out for break.

@Almondjoy7: Hey there! <3 Life is… interesting. It’s been a heck of a semester- way too much drama, and a lot of sucky grades. I’m just excited to be on break and to be moving on from everything. Pretty sure things can only go up from here.

I think the gap year would work really well for you, especially if you’re worried about maturity issues. It could give you a year off to really explore your interests and help you ‘grow up’ a little, if you will.

ALSO, I totally just found out about the RSI application being due so soon. I’m not sure if I can get teacher recs so soon, so I think I’m just not going to apply. I’m sure that they’ll accept you though, and it’ll be such an awesome opportunity!!

I still haven’t gotten my teacher recs haha. I’m planning on emailing my teachers tomorrow. Atm I’m more concerned with figuring out if I’m going to do the gap year like I said and what exactly I’ll be doing. I need to figure out exactly how I’m going to work on maturity, y’know? Are you applying to any other summer programs? I think at least contacting your teachers for RSI recs would be a good idea–you never know, they might actually do it.

Congrats on the SAT score. I’m taking it in January, and I hope I do as well as you lol.

@QuirkyClarkie: Welcome!! We’re all super nice here, so don’t feel awkward at all.

@TeamRocketGrunt: Yeah, I can totally imagine that the gap year thing is a more prominent issue for you. I hope you get things figured out.

And I’m currently looking into TASP (that would be such a DREAM to attend), and two research programs in Texas. I doubt I’ll get into any…

Still unsure about RSI because I’m not even sure if my parents will let me go to MIT alone for 8 weeks. Sigh. So indecisisve.

ALSO, I am taking the SAT in January! I am sending you a private message.

//

So I’m looking into the Chem and Bio Olympiads right now… Chem actually looks really doable based on last year’s local practice exam. I think that one is one I’m going to do. I’m unsure about Bio though… Feburary is so close and despite my interest in Bio, I feel like it would be hard to get my school to do it.

Clark scholars is one of them, right? I’m looking at that one too. TASP is a bit too humanities for me, but my mom’s encouraging me to apply, so I may as well. I got the letter two days ago actually.

@Woandering
Yeah, but my school is making me take it again in March, and I doubt I’ll get a 35 or 36 this time around since I refuse to prep, so my ACT score is basically going to become terrible in three months. I don’t want to explain to colleges how I dropped from a 35 composite to a 33 or 34 composite.

And even if I get out of taking it in March, my essay score on the ACT was low compared to my subscores (9/12). I’ll also need SAT for National Merit.

I’m about to give up TASP application. Haven’t started the essays with a month left.

I might apply to Clark Scholars too. Do you know if you have to have a specific mini-area in mind to apply? I want to do research in economics, but I haven’t got like a hypothesis to look into or anything. CSP sounds awesome tho.

Any of you applying to Bank of America Student Leader (my favorite, but may have visa/job issue) or PROMYS/Ross?

CR was 760. Honestly, I just did a lot of practice for this SAT. One of the common tricks I use is to read the questions that refer to specific lines and answer all of them as I am reading through for the first time. Then I answer the main idea questions. Saves a bit of time, but more importantly. helps me not get distracted by other things in the passage.
