High school class of 2016

Found out that I got a 100 on the English regents. Also I got a 89 on the Physics ones. I’m very surprised seeing as I did better than I did on Chemistry.

Nice! What are the regents and their significance?

Haha I take the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) every dayyyy

It sucks that I have to wait one hour in between busses to get home.

No regents scores yet but I officially finished today! Going to a Yale program for two weeks tomorrow.

I would use public transportation, but there is none to the suburbs of Dallas.

@littlet4lks thanks for the encouragement! And it is pretty awesome, but it’s frustrating that I decide to addit at a point when I want to start narrowing down majors, haha.

Current List of Potential Majors:
-Journalism
-Psychology
-English
-Creative Writing
-Neuroscience
-Chemical Engineering (would have to transfer into after college because I’m not eligible to take AP Calc in HS)
-something for a Pre-Pharmacy track
-Secondary Education
-Business
-Marketing
-Statistics
-Physics
-History

facedesk ughhhhhh why am I so wishywashy

And while we’re on the topic of public transit, the public bus system where I live has a stop a mile up hill from my house, so it’s not terribly practical for daily use. But at least it’s there as a possibility if I can’t otherwise get to school.

@ErenYeager basically you need regents to graduate. However, schools normally make them their own quarter in your GPA.

USH- 97
Physics-85
English (Took back in Jaanuary)-93

@Writer2020 No problem! I feel you though. Theres so many things I like its hard to figure out what I like the MOST!

One thing I’ve found kind of helpful is finding schools that offer a core curriculum so even if I major in a science-related field, I’d still be taking english and history, etc.

@AP_Trevor: 2015 AP Psychology scores: 5: 20.1%; 4: 26.2%; 3: 19.9%; 2: 13.1%; 1: 20.7%.

@ErenYeager Imo, they’re meaningless in the grand scheme of things but they are standardized state exams that you take for high school courses. You need specific ones (I think the US History, English, Living Environment (?), and Algebra 1 (Integrated)) to complete your regular Regents diploma in order to graduate. In order to get the Advanced Regents diploma you need to take more of them. A lot NY schools make the Regents exam 20% of your final grade in that class.

I’m not sure how it works in the elementary schools anymore because of Common Core but it used to be 3rd to 8th graders would take ELA and Math states tests (with 8th graders taking a Science state test as well and I think 5th graders took a Social Studies one).

@Chrysanthemum14 Sounds a lot harder than Texas standardized tests. We get them starting 3rd grade all the way through however long it takes us to pass them (AKA make about a 40 or above). 3rd graders get reading and math, 4th graders get reading, math, and writing, 5th and 6th graders get math and reading, 7th graders get math and reading, 8th graders get math, reading, social studies, and science, (and algebra 1 if you took pre-algebra 7th grade) and high schoolers have to take algebra 1 (if not taken in 8th grade), biology, English 1, English 2, and U.S. History until they pass them. They’re graduation requirements and go on our transcripts. Some teachers can choose to make it a portion of the students’ grade if they wish.

And a LOT harder than MD tests. We only take 4 in high school and they have no effect on our grades.

The state tests for my graduating class focused on Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Math, and Science starting in sophomore year; if needed to be retaken, they could. At least they didn’t impact grades. But I don’t know how the updated version works since they changed it all for last year.

Not to mention New York is the only way that has it like this. They make standardized tests the core of teacher evaluations. And with common core, some kids have to take TWO standardized tests in one subject. This year, the 9th graders in my school took BOTH the Common Core Geometry Regents and the Old Version Geometry Regents.

I got a 34.25 on the June ACT. It’s 1 question away from a 35! The writing score isn’t out yet, but I don’t think I did well on that, which will bring down my composite. Do you guys think I should retake? :-/

@kuriosmind Essay doesn’t count in composite score. What they released today is your final score. It says that right on the website.

34 is a wonderful score. No way in shape or form should you retake. It is still the 99th percentile.

I dont know how to feel whnn I see people get accepted into all the Ivies. I mean congrats for them but all the Ivies are so different that it seems like your just doing it to say “I went to an Ivy”
