@slytherclaw12 Sometimes schools will send you emails or legit letters in the mail saying that you can apply with a specific application or the common app and they waived the fee. I think this could be based on SATs since they prob got the info from when you give it to College Board. I don’t think those specifically have anything to do with income but I’m not sure.
@cityonanocean I only have one definite school, & two maybes. I need fee waivers, but I’m not “eligible”.
@Slytherclaw12 and @littlet4lks I’m pretty certain that they’re not based on income. I have gotten several of those emails as well and have never given any colleges or surveys or collegeboard information about my family’s income.
A lot of schools try to attract higher-level applicants by sending them e-mails about fee waivers and scholarship considerations. They probably accessed your test scores through CollegeBoard.
no more national achievement which probably means I’m getting commended with my 209 here in VA.
I got an email from Rice saying that my app fee is waived because of my SAT II scores. I never sent them my scores, and I didn’t even add them on CommonApp; how would they know what I got on my subject tests…?
I got the exact same one and I didn’t send my subject tests scores either . I was very confused lol @glasshours
@djyoungqueef Do you think a 203 would also get commended in VA?
Signed up for my last SAT. The October test is gonna come so quickly. :((
I got free apps to rice, hopkins, and chicago (including lots of others that aren’t good at all so I’m not applying) as of now, three schools i wasn’t going to apply to originally but am now (so i guess they get what they want). they want more applicants and they’re getting them. more applicants means the school looks more selective.
JW - why does does it matter if you get commended? They don’t give money soo…
I’m in computer maintenance and am one girl among a class of 34 boys.
One even commented when I walked in after my schedule change, “woah, it’s a girl.”
How did you get the free app for Hopkins? (ie: did they specifically state what it was based on/are you on the mailing list?)
I only have the 4 free apps CB sends out so far. Hoping for more lol
My teacher’s haven’t even started my recommendations and neither has my guidance counselor and the only things I’ve done so far are by myself. My first application is due October 15th!!!
Then again, we just started school two days ago.
^you applying early to unc chapel hill?
thats mine thats due october 15th.
luckily the common app essay was assigned as ap lit hw so i have to not procrastinate.
@jdschooled5 - Same haha. New York probs
@jdschooled5 I have the same problems (I’m from NJ, though). So many kids are having schedule problems, the school somehow FORGOT to give kids required classes (like english)!
@newjerseygirl98 The same happened at my school. Our counselors did not put a lot of people in Gov/Econ or math, science, or English classes. They also happened to mess up so badly that some students were deleted from the district’s system and had been unenrolled during scheduling.
^wow, that’s really rough. I can’t imagine walking in the first day of school, only to be told that you’re not a student.
@XoXdreamerXoX That’s crazy! I hope they get everything worked out.
