High school class of 2016

@xoxdreamerxox

Took AP Bio previously. I’ve always loved the subject very much and I find all the material fascinating but I hated the class so much (teacher’s teaching style was not at all engaging).

@Chrysanthemum14 I used Princeton Review, 5 Steps to a 5, and Crash Course (prep book) U.S. History and none of that prepared me for the writers that were on the test. Like…they wanted to know specific writers and their importance to U.S. History. You should buy an SAT II USH prep book.

The only thing I’ve found fascinating about AP bio is the part where we learned about gravitational/potential energy and thermodynamics.

I’m in regular classes (previous HS didn’t have AP’s). I didn’t like bio. I’m not a fan of science, except social sciences.

Hi guys! Bit of a dilemma here. I recently went on an official visit for my sport to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and absolutely fell in love with the school, the people, and the team. I felt at home on campus, more than any other school I’ve visited. It is now my number one choice and I am confident that I will be admitted. Princeton has, however, been my dream school forever (my dad went there), but I would definitely not be able to play my sport there. I want to be an engineer, so both programs are similarly excellent. Hypothetically (this is a big if) if I were to get into both schools, would I be crazy to choose RPI over Princeton? I feel like I would feel so pressured to accept Princeton and would feel like I abandoned my dream. Help please this is stressing me out!!

@emtfxc Follow your dreams, not a label or someone else’s dream.

I was about to start freaking out about the fact that I’m failing English until I remembered he curves 30 points at the end of the marking period.

I was right. My grade just went up 36 points in less than 15 minutes.

@Chrysanthemum14

I did not use the Barron’s SATII book, but I know the teacher who wrote it. I’ve heard good things from classmates who used the book, and I received an excellent score from solely his teaching.

@emtfxc If you feel like you belong at RPI, definitely choose it. I think throughout this process and the hype over top 30 schools,we tend to forget that college is what you make out of it. There are probably tons of kids who get into Ivies and other top schools who hate it there because they followed the hype. I still wouldnt completely abandon the Princeton dream until decision time cause you never know.

Im struggling with a good 78 right not in Calc BC but suprisingly Im not that stressed

@Woandering I league, but I watch LCS/professional lol more :smiley:

@chubii I’m starting to watch as well (I only recently got into League anyway). My mini-college dream is to be good enough to stream and maybe get some donations from streaming.

I just tutored someone in physics and that was the most fun I’ve had all year. The monotony is killing me.

Is there any real benefit in sending in extra recs when a certain school just requires a counselor and 1 teacher?

@littlet4lks There’s a benefit if they allow extra recs and the extra rec offers a new perspective of you. From what I’ve read, they don’t want to read basically the same letter twice.

Question: I tutor Pre-AP physics kids after school for 4 hours per week. Would that even count for anything?

I think it would since your voluntarily dedicating time to help people. Plus your doing it after-school so I think that is considered an extracurricular. As you notice I keep saying ‘I think’, but that’s because I really don’t know for sure and I don’t want to tell you something wrong.So hopefully someone more knowledgeable in this area will answer it. If not, you can always ask your college/guidance counselor.

@XoXdreamerXoX I think if you have space then you should put it on your activities list. It’s something you’ve spent time on and dedicated yourself to.

@Woandering worlds in 3 days!!! WHOOOOO SO EXCITED :smiley: (sorry everyone else, very unrelated to school)
what team(s) are you rooting for :smiley:
I’m way too hyped haha
