High school class of 2016

@cxprus I will.

@XoXdreamerXoX Its cold everywhere in the Northeast

It’s just…wow. it’s cold. 20° difference between when I left DFW Airport and when I arrived in Wellesley.

If I read one more post about someone bragging about their school I’m reporting it. Online braggarts are worse than real life braggarts.

I didn’t take it so much as bragging, but rather discussing our academic environments in relation to our own performance.

Did it snow for anyone else today? I woke up to it this morning and I’m glad it didn’t stick lol.

@XoXdreamerXoX Maybe that’s how you intended for it to be. But it comes off a different way over the internet. It’s basically one-upping each other.

I didn’t take offense to the comments, but it does make me feel left out.
It seems like me & @XoXdreamerXoX are the only ones who aren’t in great schools.

@Chrysanthemum14 My friend visited a few of the SUNYs today and said it snowed!

The average SAT score at my school is a 1200 out of 2400. We are 300 points below the national average. In addition, out of a total of 1800 students, 70% are on free and reduced lunch. At the private school next door where tuition is $13,000 and almost no one is on free or reduced lunch, the average sat score is a 1700. To me, that shows that SAT scores must be related to income. But of course, correlation does not mean causation.
Just some food for thought.

@UnicornDuchess That sounds like my high school! I agree income affects SATs.
Many low-income students work & take care of younger siblings. I was never able to afford a tutor.

It is sadly true. With more money, you also have more access to prep materials and tutors, and for tests like the SAT/ACT, extra prep can boost your scores dramatically.

Yea, higher income helps significantly. Also the quality of education at your schools and other things, all of which kind of depend on your income. A good number of people get extremely high scores on their first practice test because they have had access to a school system and teachers who have extremely high standards.

Sorry about talking about my school like that, I didn’t think too much about it. Also, having a 2300+ on an SAT doesn’t make one a genius or anything; it just implies the person is well rounded.

@UnicornDuchess The private school near my public school has a lower SAT score average for some reason :P. But its only a minimal difference. I think your example is more common.

One thing about the SAT: do you guys think that the math section is the easiest section of it? I know that’s true for my school, but I’m not sure about others.

Tbh I never understood the correlation between SAT scores and “smartness”. Not saying that someone who scores a 1200 vs a 2100 are equally as “smart” but at the end of the day, its about how well can you study and analyze for a test

@QueenN22

What are your thoughts on the correlation between GPA and “smartness” then?

GPA, in some cases, measures the level of difficulty of your classes.

There are plenty of 4.0s that cruised through academic (regular) classes and there are even the 3.8s that challenged themselves in honors/AP/dual credit.

I think higher income students are just more focused on school.

Naturally, because higher income students have the time and resources to focus on school, while unfortunately others don’t have that luxury.

@ThatOneWeirdGuy Pardon the frosh, but lol no, the kids where I live are filthy rich and stupid as heck. They make good grades, but only because the middle school teaches in eighth grade what is sixth grade material in other states. The kids don’t care at all and act like they can be total jerky dipwads with no consequences because Mommy and Daddy can pay for anything and they go to church every Sunday. (I’m an atheist, so… Not even close to what a lot of people have to deal with, but annoying nonetheless.) That was fun, moving from VA to where I live now. I was literally bored to tears on several occasions. Add this to the fact that I live in what’s colloquially known as the ****wood Bubble (not going to disclose town name, sorry) where the stupid rich kids pretend to be gangsta and cool when in reality they wear boat shoes and khakis all the time. *shudders

Anything about GPA >3.7 measures how much you’re willing to do pointless work >.>.

Below that is just how much time you’re willing to put into studying, which is basically the same thing, but less of “pointless”.

lol, focused on school? I might be an exception to that. (although I’m considered lower income at the school I go to, which is weird for a public school)

This year, I finished 95% of my homework so far at school. I just take classes which are considered very hard, but easy for me, and I do well in them. Junior year was the opposite XD; I took classes considered easy/not super hard, which were hard for me, and did (kind of) badly.

I’m the kind of person who gets an A in every math/science class with barely doing half the homework (okay exception: chemistry, in which I got destroyed by random binder checks each worth about the same amount of points as a test. ._.), and then gets B’s in any slightly advanced english/humanities classes even though I spend a lot of time on them.
