High school class of 2016

I’m so nervous and stressed out.

@letmeseetheworld This season is stressful. It’s awful.

For me, it got to the point where my junior English teacher thought my friend and I were at the verge of doing something irreversible and dumb. She sat us down to talk to us about how we have so much to live for. I think we looked pretty awful for her to have thought that.

Lol my teachers literally don’t give a crap. It sucks man.

Guys I’m feeling insanely unconfident right now. I know my test scores and GPA and test scores are good. But I feel so anxious when I compare myself to other people. Everyone that I know who has gotten into the school I’m applying to early has insane resumes. I feel like a merely above-average person like me shouldn’t even bother. You guys are so supportive. Please give me some encouragement? :frowning:

@kuriosmind: I kinda feel you when it comes to low confidence.
My parents always tell me that you don’t need to compare yourself to other people. These people that you’re comparing to are great people, but remember that you’re a great person, too. Look at that, your test scores and GPA are great! But don’t let someone else’s achievements (or as I like to call a resume, a “brag sheet”) bring you down.
Colleges don’t necessarily go like, “This person has a really long, ‘adequate’ resume, we’ll consider them over someone whose isn’t like that.” (In all honesty, I believe that your resume is probably great as well).
Be positive and it will work out for you in the end! Just remember that you’re a very bright student and that colleges will certainly think greatly of your application.
(I tried my best to give some encouragement, I’m sadly better at doing it in person than through a college-prep forum :/)

@kuriosmind Never compare yourself to others. You have strengths where they may have weaknesses. You’ll be fine.

Dropping AP Stat, not only because I hate it, but because AP Econ is only available the block I have Stat, so my counselor dropped it to put me in Econ. So, 6 more weeks of AP Statistics.

MSU’s application says I need three transcripts, b/c I was in three high schools…? Hopefully my school can figure this out for me.

Best. News. Ever. My school’s cancelled for tomorrow as a result of my host country’s election results. Score! I mean, I hope no one gets hurt in the riots and stuff, but man am I glad that I don’t have to turn in my Extended Essay.

@QuirkyClarkie Where do you live? :-S

@newjerseygirl98 East Africa. I can’t get more specific than that, though, because there aren’t too many IB schools in that region and it’d be too easy to identify me -.-

On a different note, I’ve finished my EA and ED apps! But my guidance office still hasn’t uploaded my transcript/LoRs/school report so I’m still stressed out. I started asking them to fix my transcript a week ago, and they only finished today! #whycounselorswhy

My counselor hasn’t uploaded my stuff either. Her excuse is that she’s been really busy. I mean, I understand, but my stuff is due Nov. 1st.

@XoXdreamerXoX

Well, there’s always Regular Deadline… :((

Background: Michigan allows up to 1 counselor rec, 4 teacher recs, and 2 “other” recs and requires 1 counselor rec, and 1 teacher rec.

so a michigan engineering officer gave an information session at my school and i asked what his opinion is on sending 4 (maximum) teacher recs in addition to an “other” rec and the counselor rec and he said he’d think its overflow. I already had three teachers send and i have a fourth who doesn’t work well with the common app so he gave me a physical copy for me to send to the school. I got one from my precalc and calc teacher who is amazing, my honors and ap chem teacher who is amazing, and my physics teacher who was my science honor society sponsor and I’m president. the fourth dude is my ap lit teacher (who I’ve only had for two months) and i honestly only asked him because I’m one of the few kids with an A and I’m very participative and idk i just thought he would write a great letter (plus he went to Penn for a masters degree so i assumed he knew his stuff) but the letter’s really not that great i feel like its just a copy and paste from a previous letter he wrote.

Regardless, the question stands: should I send?

Pros: shows multifaceted and not just STEM letters even though I plan on majoring in engineering and business.
Pros: I don’t see why another letter would ever hurt, if anything they won’t read it.
Cons: engineering officer himself said app may look bulked up.
Cons: I have to decide by tomorrow if i want to send it :).

@AMan236 I bothered her until she sent it, so it’s submitted now.

@baller55 I’m kind of thinking it’d be too much. But, you know, if you feel you really need to submit that many, you can always do so.

@XoXdreamerXoX right like i feel like adding it won’t make a difference to my application, whether positive or negative, so it’d be pointless to even send it. But, maybe a fourth (and maximal) letter may show that like i do have a plethora of teachers to ask to describe me and I also show my multifaceted academic persona. idk i need more opinions HAHAHA

Berkeley College has been calling me NONSTOP!
.
They visited my school, they’re harassing seniors! I don’t think I can be any clearer than “I’ve already talked to someone, I want to study social work, it’s not a good option for me”.

Right now, my inbox is flooded with colleges telling me that the early deadline is 11/1.

Like I need something else to remind me… My brain has been on “COLLEGE COLLEGE COLLEGE” for the past week.

Guys I just got an email from college board saying that they screwed up processing the SAT scores sent after October 14th and that they will not get them to school with November 1st deadlines on time… I’ve wanted to go to Princeton forever and don’t want to throw away my shot at early admission because the testing agency messed up. Did anyone else get it and if so, what are you doing??

@emtfxc - Did they seriously say that? Yikes. And we paid $11 for this, an absurd amount for ELECTRONICALLY sending a few numbers. (We should all get refunds, imo)

I’m not applying to Princeton early, but all of my early schools either explicitly state on the website that they understand if scores arrive late or have an entirely separate deadline for scores/transcripts/etc. I doubt you’d get penalized because it’s the College Board’s fault, and you should be fine if you self-reported your scores on the Common App, but check in with your specific school to be sure?
