@allista Have you ever thought about just not paying? My school is the same way but some seniors last year flat refused to take the exams and the school couldn’t really do anything.
@HeyItsNick some schools will still make you take the exam and you won’t be able to graduate until you pay for it.
Our school might force us to take AP exams for all the AP classes we sign up for. But if they do, they won’t make us pay for the exams (…they won’t make kids in a school with a 70% poverty rate pay for all exams for the classes they sign up for–especially for those kids in 4 or 5 AP classes).
My school makes you take the exam but I just won’t pay for it this year. And if they pay for it I’ll sleep through it. If not I don’t take it. Win-win.
At my school taking AP exams is strongly (very strongly) recommended, but if you don’t want to there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Some teachers, though, require an alternate assignment if you choose not to take it.
:(( Just found out my physics teacher is going to make us learn all of AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism in two weeks (after the AP Physics 2 exam) and take a full-length practice AP exam as our final.
My school also makes everyone take the AP Exams. I guess the only good aspect of this is that they pay for everyone to take it. If they didn’t, literally no one would even bother to pay for it.
@XoXdreamerXoX Lol. This entire week, my AP physics class was in the library doing an assignment that I finished a month ago. I was literally just playing games during class since Monday. This is probably why no one ever passes the AP exam for his class. He goes so slow on teaching us the material. Also, at my school, almost no seniors take a final exam. The teachers just usually make a simple assignment as the final as a goodbye treat.
@newjerseygirl98 Think about what people will go on to niche to write reviews. They’re usually people who are or were students, and most students have school pride. I wouldn’t say the reviews are unreliable, but there may be more good ones than there should.
From the other side, CC is also not a reliable source, since most of the users here are super high achievers, and Eastern Nazarene isn’t exactly Harvard.
@Woandering Like…I saw one for my state school (I personally love it with all my heart–Aggie brainwash, lol) and all of the grades besides diversity were As. I don’t think they’re an all-A-type. It’s a wonderful school–ranked in the top 20 for research, a top 10 vet school in the world, and many other ranks, but I really don’t believe they’re at the point of getting almost all As. That’s why I don’t trust Niche, USN&WR, or CC for school reviews, lol. I don’t trust any site, honestly.
@allista I know right!? My school encourages us to take as many APs as possible, then forces us to take the tests and we have to pay for all of them. And if you volunteer at our school’s fair, they pay for like $5. LOL like 5 bucks is going to make a dent in the $500-600 we have to pay. What a joke.
Senior year has been relatively easy. I came into this year with a 1.87 GPA, so my goal was to get all A’s. I enrolled in Introduction to Radio Brodcasting, normal English, College Algebra, Networking Fundamentals, Honors Government and Spanish II. Got all A’s in all those classes, so my counselors moved me into Honors English and some online classes. Completing all these classes will get me above 2.5!
1.87?
@AMan236 At least it’s a C average
@AMan236 I had a bad home life up until this year, spent some time in my junior year couch surfing and then landed in good permanent home environment my Senior Year
I just found out only 38% of my class is going to a 4-year college/uni. :’)
@arby423 Wow, you had a rough past but I’m glad to hear you pulled through. Really happy for you!
@Chrysanthemum14 Lol, it’s 23% for my school. 81% last year applied to either community college or a 4-year institution.
48% actually went.
15% went to a 4-year college.
Most that apply to community college don’t actually end up going. I don’t know why. :-/ We do have a college adviser pushing us to go to college, but I guess since he only really works with the top 10%, the rest kind of don’t get much encouragement. Then again, I think most of them just don’t want to go to school anymore. I’ve talked to several and they just say college is a waste of time. I guess college isn’t really for everyone.
@arby423 Whoop! Congrats. We’re rooting for you!
I know at my school a lot of people use instant commit at a community college as their safety. Going to a community college isn’t a bad thing, but like any college it isn’t for everyone. 86% of the class of 2015 went to college- 49% 4 year, 37% 2 year. Plus 4% went into the military
Yeah. I’m applying to Ball State, have the appeal and a number of teacher recommendations on the way. That’s my dream school though. I’m actually making a post trying to discover some back up schools that I’d enjoy.
