@JamieH You still have time to apply to some of them if you are willing to put in the extra work.
@LegendarySims Yeah, I’ve considered it but I probably won’t, more because of the money than the work.
I’ve been called a nerd so many times this week by the same two people that I’m starting to wonder whether I should be offended.
^Own it. Or don’t idk.
I would label myself as a nerd–I actually like the label. But, after a certain point, you start to wonder whether people connect the negative connotations of the word “nerd” with you (no social life, just studies all the time, spends all day cooped up or whatever). Especially when it’s been the same two people saying it for the past week on too many occasions to count.
But, again, I really see nothing wrong with being called a nerd. It’s just the amount of times that it’s happened that makes me wonder whether they mean it in a bad way.
Lol. One of them is my best friend (…don’t know why he sees the need to walk around saying “neeeeeerd” every time he sees me or I say something in class) and the other is my adviser–I can’t say more than two sentences without being called a nerd.
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just being easily offended or something. It’s never gotten to the point where the word bothered me until this week.
I am 3 for 3 so far, but I have only heard from safeties lol. Cant wait till UNC decisions when I get shrekt
Some questions: I was offered an interview and I’m trying to reply back to the email. The interviewer already specified days and times when he is available, so should I tell a specific date and time I can meet or should I also say days and times I’m regularly available? Also, when should I schedule it? Sometime close to when I received the email or a week or two later?
I was going to post these in the respective forum but then I want a quick answer and all you awesome people have probably been interviewed before so here I am
Pick a specific date from his options, and schedule it for whenever you feel most comfortable or when you don’t have tests the next day
@itsmyusername Thank you!!
I never in thought I’d say this, but is anyone else considering taking a gap year? I have zero confidence in getting into any of my schools besides my state school. I could save up for college and keep myself busy with internships and volunteering…
Anyone else?
Spread the word. Post your acceptances here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1850299-hs-class-of-2016-acceptances.html#latest
@SippinCoffee Not considering a gap year, but I just want to let you know that you should take the gap year if you need it. Make sure you talk to someone knowledgeable about all the logistics. Also, most importantly, make sure someone or something is holding you to do something productive during the year. Don’t procrastinate the year away. If you can do all that, there is no downside to doing the gap year.
@SippinCoffee I’ve thought about taking a gap year, especially if I realize that I don’t want to attend any of the schools I’ve been accepted to. I want to take a gap year so I can earn my Divemaster’s certification, but I don’t know what I’d do for the rest of the year!
Gap years are a great opportunity to learn/grow in a more unstructured environment, and can give you more time to earn money for college or mature or whatever you need to do. Have you read How to Be a High School Superstar by Cal Newport? He had a great example of a senior who became famous (in his academic field) during his gap year doing really interesting things.
@XoXdreamerXoX Don’t let it get to you; being a nerd is awesome! I love surrounding myself with nerds. Being called a nerd is such a huge compliment. At least imo it is. You’re intelligent and everyone knows it. Embrace it. B-)
I was always a nerd when I started high school up until the end of 11th grade. Once my senior year started I knew it was time to chill and have some fun for a change while paying attention to my grades. In 2 weeks I will to my first dance in high school. It’s sometime you never get to experience again once you go to college. It felt boring to stay in a secluded shell obsessing about grades either way. xD
I can’t wait to be done with all of my interviews and be done with the college process for good.
Just got my second acceptance! SUNY Stonybrook. Now I’ve been to 2 out of 4 of my safeties so far.
@Chrysanthemum14 congrats!!
And @IBGuy101 I went to my school’s homecoming for the first time this year too hahah… had a lot of fun though
Just received my first scholarship from UMich!!!
@AcceptableName Congrats! Which one is it?
