High School Class of 2017

Stanford and U Chicago are the “hail mary” reach schools haha…

Even though I really don’t like the stress of school, at least there’s a plan set up for us: follow the rules for four year. After that, we’re sort of tossed into the real world and left to figure out where we fit and what we want to do. That really scares me.

Columbia’s my dream school, but my chances are like near zero :stuck_out_tongue:

@photogeek8 OMG IKR! that used to scare me too! like what classes do i take in college? what do you mean i choose classes? it’s crazy!

Columbia or Penn. Prob not a good choice for a pre-med (english major). So, I might just go to my flagship, since it’d give me the best chance for the highest gpa.

What are you guys pursuing in College, major-wise? and what are your long term goals with the degree?

aiming to do pre-med too  Did some research on life in med school and it seems pretty strenuous… Maybe gonna try out for Penn too but still a long way off :^)

My dream school is anything out of state that gives out full rides.

My major would be political science and minor would be economics.

MIT is definitely my dream school. It’s kinda a bad situation because I’m so attached/invested… oh well I also like Carnegie Mellon, Hopkins, and my state school, but MIT seems like the best place on earth

I hate the fact that people confuse UPenn with Penn State. I know prestige shouldn’t be a motivating factor, but when I tell people I wanna go to Penn, they’re like, “Oh, I thought you’d want to do a lot more than that”. When I ask them to clarify, they say something like “Well, Penn State isn’t bad, but there are better schools for you.” facepalm lol

@neoking I wouldn’t be surprised if Penn State is assumed when someone hears “Penn” because of that major scandal Penn State had a few years back. “UPenn” sounds more distinguishing than “Penn” would.

Does anyone get so confused by the terms “B.A.”, “postdoc”, “master’s”, and all other levels of college-level education? Whenever relatives ask me what I want to study, I stammer and say something different to each one because I have no clue what these levels even mean.

@photogeek8 Hahaha same…all I can accurately remember are Masters and PhD :stuck_out_tongue:

One of my good friends got into UPenn… so proud of her! :x

@ambitiousgeek Yess! Pre-med is crazyy. I regret reading post about how med students were depressed, discouraged, suicidal etc. because of the crazy workload :((

Who is taking the January SAT?

@Cece0499 I am! I read about random posts on how to get over the sight of cadavers, etc. [-X definitely not the best aspect of being a med student

Top dream schools are Columbia and Georgetown. I plan on majoring in Poli Sci with a minor in communications or economics

Wow you guys all want to go to Columbia, Penn, MIT, etc. and nobody yet has mentioned Harvard. Why isn’t anyone applying to Harvard?

@Studious99 Harvard just may not be for them I guess. A lot of people want to go to a school for a specific program that they’re in love with, e.g. Wharton Business School @ UPenn.

I have a couple top tier schools on my list for sure, but Harvard just isn’t one of them. It just doesn’t appeal to me, regardless of its incredible prestige.
