High School Class of 2017

@BethanyD I have it this coming quarter. The pros are that it helps you get started on work early and perhaps work on other projects outside of homework. I have mine in the middle of the day so I’m using it as an opportunity to study for the SAT so I won’t have to study for it after school on days when I have a lot of homework. The main drawback for me during the first quarter was that it sometimes promoted bad habits for me. There were occasional times when I didn’t do math homework until the day it was due because I could do it during study hall.

@Balletfreak1999 my school too. They only offer AP classes for chemistry, calculus, computer science, physics, and biology. And they do not allow us to have AP classes unless we’re seniors which is very annoying. (except AP CS, which starts the next term)

Luckily, three of those classes are the must-have ones I’d choose if I had all classes available, but I’ll do all 5 AP classes we have hopefully.

I’ll start AP CS classes next term and I’ll try to self-study more because I’d like to take the exam this year. I’ll also start self-studying physics.

@MissRB0021 @Greninja sounds good. My issue is that my phone really distracts me as well as my little sister. I’ll probably have study hall the next term.

Thank you both!

@Balletfreak1999 I’m curious - What makes Columbia semi-realistic and what makes Berkeley a safety for you?

@Balletfreak1999, what course are you looking at for Oxford?

I thought that Oxford required a lot of AP tests for US applicants? Hopefully there’s a way for you to self-study those.

I wish I could consider Berkeley a safety…

@athenanv13 Do you live in Texas? My school is forcing all juniors to take the new test in March. I really don’t want to take it because I’m satisfied with my old SAT score. Also, some colleges require all scores, and if I don’t do well on the new SAT, I’m worried that it might have a bad effect for those schools. Ughhh

@athenanv13 Me too. I really want to go there or UPenn

@athenanv13 According to what I’ve learned on this website, nobody can consider UC Berkeley to be a safety.

@neoking I live in Colorado! But yes, they are changing it from the ACT to the SAT. I really wish they had the writing so I wouldn’t have to take it separately and pay money.

Anybody else have school starting again tomorrow?

@dsi411 if you have a 4.0 UW at a California high school (that has a rep for sending people to berkeley) and at least a 2100 SAT, you’re pretty much in there. That’s what I’ve noticed at my school at least. As long as you’re at the top of your class, they’re pretty much gonna admit.

Wish my state had good public universities, haha.

^ Yeah, seriously. I live in Maryland, and while College Park is a good school, it’s definitely not for me.

@Frigidcold @bfc2017 same…haha

How difficult is Berkeley for OOS students? The stats make it look like a good match school for me, but I’ve heard that UCs are insanely competitive for OOS.

@Studious99 I’ve heard its pretty competitive. The acceptance rate is 18% and that’s including in-state…

I live in Illinois so there’s UIUC but because I don’t want to major in engineering, I really don’t want to go there.

In FL we’re being forced to take the SAT in March too. I’m going to try to get out of it since I already got a 35 on the ACT and am taking it 1 last time for a 36 and wouldn’t want to screw things up and waste time preparing. I think it’s a good idea to offer it for accessibility reasons, but we shouldn’t be forced to take it, and if they don’t let me get out of it I’ll be hella mad

Kinda off topic but who’s extremely anxious about PSAT scores this thursday? D: Honestly have no clue what my state’s cutoff will be but we’ll see…

@coffeeaddicted Same but with the SAT! Do you think if we’re absent on that day they won’t make us take it?

Hopefully we can cancel our scores with collegeboard. Some schools require all scores, and I don’t want a test that I haven’t prepped for being sent out to colleges. Anyways, I’m gonna talk with my counselor tomorrow and ask her what I can do about it.

I really don’t understand why they’re not making it an option… (conspiracy incoming) Maybe the collegeboard is paying school districts so they can get the maximum amount of data available?
