High School Class of 2017

@neoking I would listen to the website, especially if it was written by Allen Cheng (it sounds like something he would say haha). Guidance counselors at public schools are typically advising students to go to college at all, and therefore would encourage a student to take as many tests as possible to maximize their chances of having a score to get them in somewhere, even if a student is super motivated and doesn’t actually need to take both. If your SAT score is good enough to get you into wherever you’re applying then I wouldn’t take the time to take it again.

But then again, I read in the 2020 Harvard SCEA results post (I spend way, way too much time on these) from someone who was accepted that said:

“Make sure your SAT is 2350+, 2400 if possible; too many applicants disregard SAT scores, settling for complacency. I can’t stress enough how ONE TEST IS EQUATED TO FOUR YEARS of grades; if you’re willing to take a hard AP class costing hundreds of hours, you should be more than willing to put in hundreds of hours for the SAT, which will have a much greater return on investment than anything else you could be doing with that time.”

So idk maybe it would be worth it to retake, depending on your score/where you’re applying/how much time you have. IMO it’s not AS important as he said, but then again I haven’t been accepted to Harvard.

@foliontai Yes that’s good for the math part. Tbh Idk about the english that’s where I’m weakest (mainly in reading). Omg Now I’m relieved cuz I got at least 7 wrong on Math.

Wow, -7 in math was a 99th percentile score? I guess math was hard this time.

I think the no calculator section really messed a lot of people up which made the scores bunch up on the lower end of the scale.

I’m sure most of y’all did better than me in that section. As I looked over some of the questions, I realized I made some pretty stupid mistakes.

I hope that the reading curve was easier though, I found some of the questions hard

Ugh I always make stupid mistakes, especially in the Math. Like for one of the questions it was like volume. I did the whole question took like a min or 2 and then messed up on the last part. I got 8 x 60 and i was like 8 x 60 = 240 lmao. ugh

Lol I’m scared like mess. @foliontai Can you predict my score?
-7 - 10 on Math
-15 on Reading
-5 on Writing

@YohooAddict I’m really sorry but I don’t know how to predict your score on the Reading+Writing Section because I don’t really have a frame of reference for the curve on that. You can try using the chart on CB for the practice tests for an idea.

But your math score is probably from a 700-720.

@foliontai That’s okay. Thanks though.

Ahhhh only 32 more hours :open_mouth:

The math curve makes me feel much better, I felt like all my errors will be dumb mistakes except for maybe the auditorium seats linear system question and 1-2 others I forgot about. Congrats @foliontai

When you reach the moment when you really don’t want to do any more homework, but you know that you should and will…

^^same. I have some serious early-onset senioritis and I can’t wait until the point in college where I only have to take classes pertaining to my major

Lol the CB must have figured out the issue as when I logged on it popped up, but then said my score report wasn’t available. I didn’t get a good look at it :frowning:

Do scores come out 12 AM EST or something (on Thursday)?

I make a decision a couple days ago that I’m second guessing…
I have a 2200 on the SAT (720 CR 750 Math 730 Writing) I canceled my registration to take the test a third time. I figured that I was done, and I should focus on studying for subject tests instead… Besides, I’m super overwhelmed with schoolwork right now, I’m basically self-studying the Art History AP, and I didn’t feel like there was any chance the score would go up. But I just completely freaked myself out by misguidedly reading some of those ED results forums. Some people with SAT scores that were much better than mine (two different people with perfect scores!) were outright rejected to Penn. I don’t have my heart set on Penn, but it’s where my dad went, and I always thought it would be nice to share that with him. Idk. I’m obsessing. I know they’re good scores, and I should be happy. My guidance counselor is fine with me leaving it be. This whole process is just so scary. Sorry for venting.

@bfc2017 it’s ok sometimes this thread serves as a venting outlet for us stressed out juniors. And don’t worry about your score! If this time of year is too stressful, you can just retake it during the summer. Besides, elite colleges base much more of their decisions upon your extracurriculars and personal factors rather than simple SAT/ACT scores.

IMO, all schools should go test-optional, since standardized tests are a poor representation of one’s intelligence (they more test one’s familiarity with the test and willingness to spend hours preparing). But I won’t start that rant. I need to do homework :frowning:

@coffeeaddicted Only problem is that he can’t take it during summer since the old SAT won’t be administered after January 23rd.

@bfc2017 it’s okay! We all use this to complain and complain and vent and vent because we are all super stressed! At least that is what I do! I either complain or brag a lot because I can’t do it around my friends or family. The good thing is that it is completely anonymous so you don’t have to worry about anyone judging you. I’ve received the best support on this thread when I’m super stressed out and sad about stuff too! I don’t even know anyone but the empathy and support on this thread is amazing! :x
P.S. @bfc2017 If you need anyone to talk to, you can always PM me!

@neoking oh that’s true…why does CB have to give us so many problems
