High School Class of 2017

Are the cutoffs posted in May or in September?

@glassflowers - cutoff scores for NM semi-finalists are usually released in September.

They seem pretty good in Tennessee.

@DuelingGloves i studied hard for math bc i really wanted a perfect score bc the topics just needed to be refreshed in my brain lol. I studied reading and tried to make sure my answers were justified in the practice tests and writing comes naturally so i just needed to go over a few concepts. In the end reading killed me…soo idk how my practice worked on the real test. My guess would be nerves and the fact that the first thing I saw when i opened the book was Spanish which literally made my heart stop for a second.

So what are my chances (maybe on a scale of 1-10) for commended and semifinalist in your opinion? Thank you for the response! @realtwinkie

@mkumar17 id say it’s a 9 for tennessee. Right now I think I have a 4/10 chance of getting it in new jersey since the standards are higher here but is an unpredictable process for being commended.

@realtwinkie Stronger as in larger? Curved more? Bit concerned because everyone in this thread and everyone I’ve talked to has gotten a 14x0. Feel like the cut-offs may be really high… :c

@Frigidcold the cutoff is definitely higher in new jersey. Only Massachusetts I’d bet on having a higher cutoff. And I got one of the lower scores here yet got in the 99th percentile and higher than my friends. College confidential is where a lot of the 99th percentile is don’t worry. They’re way over represented here.

Anyways, not too excited about possibly having to take the new SAT like everyone said. Though I was done with all my standardized testing :frowning:

@Frigidcold what score did you get on the psat?

I got 98th percentile (206 index) and I live in rural MD, but MD is a really competitive state with all the people close to DC getting lots of prep. Prepscholar’s projected Semifinal for MD is 209 and I’m 206 agggghhh. At this point I don’t even know if I’ll get commended :frowning:

@realtwinkie Posted earlier, but 1500, 225 selection index.

You will get Commended Scholar which is nothing to sneeze at.

You have nothing to worry about lol. You should get a pretty high score on the new sat too.

@realtwinkie I’d still have to study, can’t find it in my heart to half-ass something like the SAT.

  1. 730 reading and writing, 760 math. Where do you see the selection index? Not too bad with zero PSAT-specific prep!

I should’ve turned off notifications on the PSAT thread 100 pages ago…

I did really bad, though I did see it coming. 1330. 670 reading/writing, 660 math. I definitely won’t make IL’s cutoff

1410 - Reading and writing: 690, Math: 720. NMSC: 210.

I was really hoping for a higher score, but in my defense, I was terribly sick while taking the test and literally blowing my runny nose as I answered the questions. I know for sure that I didn’t make the cutoff for California, but whatever. At least now that I know my score, I can concentrate on other things.

@pseudoprimal on your score report NMSC Selection Index will be the fourth link under “Score Report for PSAT/NMSQT, Fall 2015”
