tbh, I’ve been expecting to get more college mail than I have been getting. And yeah, if you’re getting an influx of college mail, it’s probably because of PSAT scores.
Haha, I’m so glad I’m not getting emails. 
I put “no” on the PSAT section where it said 'would you like to receive more information from colleges". I learned my lesson from last year. It took me forever to unsubscribe from all the emails I was getting so I promised myself I would never select ‘yes’ on things bound to spam you on the ACT/SAT
@neoking I actually totally regret my freshman and sophomore years. Close to zero involvement in STEM because I wanted to pursue the arts (don’t even know why). I worked hard but I didn’t get involved with what I should’ve. Thankfully now I have high involvement with research, SciOly, Science NHS, math and programming and etc. but only from this school year 
You’re right I need to just destress, sleep more, not freak out about it because it really isn’t worth the stress when I’m doing what I can do.
I refreshed my email after 2 days of not checking and I had 30 emails…28 being from colleges! All the emails make me feel special though so it’s okay
I’m actually not the type to get annoyed by emails because occasionally you get one from a school you never thought of applying to but it turns out that it offers some nice courses!
One more test and I can go to bed at reasonable times again!!!

One more (and final) SAT and I get to live the normal life again xD
I asked my history teacher if she could write a rec letter for some program I’m applying to. She said yes, but…
When I walked in the classroom to go talk to her, she didn’t even know my name! “Is your name, Ryan?” I’m not a Ryan! It made me feel so uncomfortable, ashamed, and made the situation so awkward. I don’t even know why I asked her for a rec letter if I’m that forgettable that she doesn’t know my name after a whole semester. Not to mention I always get the highest grades in her class…
I now know for sure that the rec letter will be terrible by virtue of her not even knowing I exist!
The thing is the same morning (I asked her during lunch) she greeted me with a “hello” and my name, and she has addressed me before with my name, and I even had a conversation with her before outside of class.
After realizing her mistake she said that a Ryan was planning to meet her today at lunch. BS. She would’ve known exactly what he looked like. I was so shocked and mortified that I don’t remember exactly what happened in those few seconds (perhaps she did correct herself and addressed me with my correct name, but I don’t remember).
I don’t know if I’m overanalyzing this, but it’s not like she confused me for someone for a second (“Hey, Ryan!”). She asked me what my name was. I think I would’ve been fine if what transpired was the former, but it was the latter. The fact that she wasn’t even sure and felt the need to actually ask who I was, as if we were meeting for the first time.
I feel so down now. I’m already insecure about the fact I don’t participate in most of my classes. I’ll just make myself feel better by pretending it’s her old age…
@GrandBudapest That sounds like a really uncomfortable situation! I totally understand how you feel - one time, in the middle of class, my teacher forgot how to pronounce my name (it’s quite…unique) and she asked how to pronounce it IN FRONT OF THE CLASS. It was super embarrassing. But from the way you phrased the situation, it sounds like she knows who you are but just forgot your name. It happens all the time. Teachers have a lot of students, and often they get mixed up with one other, especially if they look alike or have recently switched seats. And you say she’s old, so maybe she’s forgetful as well. Take a deep breath and move past the humiliation.
I’ve also think about colleges these days. I wouldn’t mind going to my state flagship, but don’t really want to because it’s one of the top parties schools. Then I realized I could transfer, though it’s much more difficult.
My state flagship (Cal) is a really good school, but so many people from my school go there that I want something different. However, I’m only applying to privates that have lower acceptance rates than Cal, since if I don’t get into any of them, I might as well go to Cal. It’s a great school and I love the culture; my only qualms lie with the difficulty of switching majors and the size of the school.
@photogeek8 Thanks for the support. But it’s still unfathomable that even if she was unsure of my name she would actually ask “You’re name is Ryan, right?” instead of just pretending to be sure that I was a Ryan.
I’m also confused because she did say my name correctly in the morning.
This has just made me extremely worried about college recs…because in fact I was planning to ask this teacher for a rec because I thought she liked me. Boy was I wrong…
It kind of bothers me that my hard work to be as competitive of an applicant as I can will be fruitless if I end up going to a school I could have gotten into with a much weaker resume. All the elite schools seem to be a lottery at some level. It also bothers me that I have a foolish indulgent desire to school with fancy name recognition, even though it’s a stupid thing to wish for. Why can’t I just be happy with some kind of decent state school with >60% acceptance?

@Studious99 I totally get your sentiment. But – think of everything else you’re getting out of your education. What have you learned, and how has it changed the way you see the world?
Is working hard at a prestigious college pointless if you don’t immediately land the best of jobs afterwards?
I don’t know, and I hope this doesn’t come off as aggressive – it just seems like it would be such a sad thing to feel like entire years of work were wasted.
And, if you do end up at a less prestigious school, remember that you have situated yourself in a place to take the absolute most out of your time there. You’ll have your pick of opportunities, and can ask for ones that don’t exist yet. That ability, that desire will hopefully have arisen during your self-challenge in high school. It’s what you do during college that counts, and your high school preparation for that can only help.
@pseudoprimal Good luck in your college admissions. Kind of wish I had the resolve to apply early. Not sure I’ll survive another year in high school.

@Frigidcold thanks! We’ll see how this all goes. I only applied to reach schools, so I very well may be a senior next year. No one at school (with at most one exception) knows, so I feel like I’m living a double life

My sister signed up for the PSAT 8 at her school. Wow. She’ll take the test four times throughout her high school career (1 middle school, 3 high school) she better be an NMF lol.

@tigerman333 they offered it when I was in 8th grade but I didn’t take it for whatever reason. I think its getting more common as more kids start thinking about college earlier
