@MissSuzyQ Creative writing! It’s my top school. The wait is actually killing me
@ZBlue17 I tell anyone who asks me. It’s annoying when people hear “Stanford”, “Harvard” or “Columbia” and it’s obvious they’re thinking, “Whoa, someone thinks he’s a hot shot!” But most wish me luck with the reaches on my list, and I do the same.
I’ve actually found that others are more eager to tell me where they’re applying than hearing where I’m applying.
They also asked us, yet everything they need we have already sent. One document was sent via mail and also uploaded to the application.
@ZBlue17 My experience is pretty similar to @neoking 's. It’s a little more awkward for me, though, because I live in this tiny town where most people don’t go to college and the most selective school most people apply to is UW Madison, so I feel a little pretentious applying to Ivy League schools.
I really don’t talk about college apps with anyone but my close friends anyway, though!
@KellyC123 Are you talking about Emerson? Honestly some of the financial aid documents seem ridiculous, and all of it is just to verify that what you put on FAFSA and CSS Profile is true. I have some home verification form, parent’s tax transcript, parent W2 form, and student W2 form (even though I never filed one and never said I did) that are suddenly “required.” They also say they haven’t received my noncustodial profile statement even though my dad sent that weeks or maybe months ago. This is really exhausting and disheartening. My mom does not want to send them this additional stuff. Ugh.
^It makes it even worse knowing that they’re stingy with financial aid anyway. I feel like we’re going through all this trouble for virtually nothing.
True @outtahere2017. If I get into UNC Chapel Hill (in state), I will most definitely be going there. Emerson and some of the other OOS colleges I applied to are great but the price is just crazy.
These UC prompts are hell
Just submited for:
Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Iowa State
U of Arizona
U of Hawaii at Manoa
I’m planning to finish the common app in december.
I just finished my 10th essay for college
But I only submitted 2/18 applications… LOL
ohhh man why is it so hard to write the common app essay? i feel like i have ideas, but every time i start putting my fingers on the keyboard, an explosion of word vomit comes onto the screen and i have to start over (again) :’)
I would just let the alphabet soup vomit come out completely and then rearrange the letters into something legible. That’s how I wrote my essay.
Hey Guys! Just popping in from the Class of 2018 and wanted to tell you about this really great place to find scholarships.
So, for those who don’t know about about.com’s college scholarship page, here it is: http://collegeapps.about.com/od/grantsandscholarships/
I’ve visited this website from time to time over the past year and it definitely seems very credible. They seem to offer links to many different college scholarships, so there is sure to be one for almost anything. I’d definitely recommend this to seniors in need of scholarship money.
Here’s a link to their page of all of their scholarship links (50 scholarships) with December* deadlines: http://collegeapps.about.com/od/grantsandscholarships/tp/college-scholarships-december-deadlines.02.htm
Since a good portion of those deadlines are on December 1st, here is the link to the (97) scholarships with January deadlines: http://collegeapps.about.com/od/grantsandscholarships/tp/college-scholarships-january.htm
Hope this helps anyone!
3/10–soon to be 4/10–done…
Anyone else applying to Bowdoin? I’m having trouble with their essays… I want to choose the “common good” prompt, but I’m afraid that I’ll just end up sounding like some Mother Teresa wannabe goody two shoes without any actual thoughts or depth!
Received my acceptance letter to the University of North Carolina Wilmington today!!!
Completely separate subject…do colleges automatically pick you for verification for financial aid if you don’t use the IRS transferral tool on the FAFSA? I’ve had two colleges already “randomly” pick me for verification and it’s kind of stressing me out.
Nvm. I was picked by the federal government. ://////
@eyrar99 I am!
@ThatOneWeirdGuy That’s exactly how I write all my college essays haha.
@MissSuzyQ I applied Stanford REA and used the IRS transfer tool with FAFSA. I was still required to verify information using Collegeboard’s IDOC system (basically lets you upload tax returns and W2s). I think you only have access to IDOC if you also filled out Collegeboard’s CSS profile.
So it seems like many schools ask for verification. I wouldn’t worry about it
