High School Class of 2017

@hhijjlala Yale (not expecting to get in of course!) so the interview doesn’t carry much weight. But it was really nice to meet her.

Man, oh man, it feels GOOD to be done with college apps.

I’ve got my on-campus UChicago interview with a current student on Friday. I’m kind of nervous and don’t really know what to expect. Also, I plan on wearing a suit with a bow tie. Do you guys think the bow tie would be making a statement or would be cool, considering Chicago is a school where they like to be unique?

@Faultystart Congrats!! Now we just gotta wait…

@tigerman333 Good luck! I had three interviews with students and they were all very chilled and nice. Nothing to worry about :slight_smile:

Honestly, a suit and bow tie sounds a little formal for an interview. I’d say just go with a sweater or button up shirt and nice pants. But it’s your call and interviews don’t count for much in admissions (and clothes on interviews even less!).

@tigerman333 It could be considered cool, but don’t wear it for the sake of being unique lol. But go ahead if you want.

And it’s understandable to be a little nervous, but just treat this as a conversation in which you could learn a bit more about the school and the character of their alumni. Definitely be prepared to talk about your high school journey (favorite courses, ECs, awards, field(s) you’re interested in, etc), and also be prepared to talk about why that particular school feels right for you. It never hurts to have some interesting questions about the school and that specific alum’s journey there.

Good luck dude!

I just had my Hamilton college interview it was suppose to be a video interview but technology…nuf said I ended up having a phone interview it had a rocky start with some pauses (they weren’t awkward) it was just a conversation with the occasional question though it was short I came across in a way I’m happy with and even though I most likely won’t get into Hamilton I’m happy I did the interview and it was even fun. I know people are always like don’t be nervous it;s just a conversation it’s only proven as true when you experience it. I’m so happy I feel like I’ll never be nervous for another interview again.

@greenteen17 @neoking Thanks for the info guys. I guess a suit may be formal but honestly, I love wearing suits and it gives me more confidence as a person. Personally, I always look for an excuse to wear one so I think I’m going to go for it.

Sooo nervous for my Cornell interview tomorrow. Don’t know what to expect. Do the interviewers have a set of questions they ask or something? Scared that I’m gonna blank out and be awkward

@callmegray I’ve had four interviews so far. None were stressful experiences. They mostly asked generic questions - why school X, why do you want to study X, what do you like to do, talk about high school, etc.

One thing I would recommend is knowing things about the school.

I did get one weird question - if you could undo one event from history, what would it be?

This article seems helpful. http://blog.prepscholar.com/college-interview-questions-you-should-prepare-for

Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great :slight_smile:

@callmegray
I’ve interviewed with a bunch of schools in person, on Skype, and on the phone… So far, all the interviews have been super nice and casual. A lot of the questions are the same from interview to interview. I’ve gotten asked these a lot:
-Questions about extracurriculars
-Why ____ college/university?
-What do you want in a college?
-What are your interests/what do you want to major in?
-How would friends describe you?
-What are your strengths?

From what my interviewers have said, the colleges provide them with a list of questions, but they don’t necessarily need to follow it. Good luck! :slight_smile:

Just got rejected from my first college I don’t really care to much but I’m just angry at the fact that they sent many emails talking about my “academic talents” and how I have “potential for success” yet the letter said “we are eager to serve all students provided that we are confident in the students potential to succeed” so they said I have potential to succeed all throughout the application process yet when it comes to the moment when my future is in their hands they basically say they believe I don’t have potential to succeed…what. I’m just glad I wasn’t very emotionally invested in this school and it didn’t cost a dime to apply.

And shout out to all the English teachers who taught me to pull direct quotes and use them to support my opinions.
Who would of thought I had the potential to learn such a skill

@callmegray How did you get an interview for Cornell? They say they don’t offer them

@tigerman333

Has anyone gotten an interview request from Northwestern?

Does anyone know if Case has a RD thread?

@What???!! They have an applicants of 2021 thread under the Case forum.

@greenteen17 @eyrar99 Thank you guys! The day when my interview was supposed to be scheduled, my interviewer postponed it. She still didn’t tell me when we’re going to have it again though. Don’t know if I should try emailing her again (It’s been like 5 days)
@tigerman333 really? I didn’t do anything, they just contacted me through email. my friend did her cornell interview last wednesday too

my test scores havent been received by cornell yet is that weird… it has been received by the other schools

@callmegray I won’t be getting one since I applied to the College of Business and they don’t offer interviews.
