16/16 DONE. Oh my goodness that was a ride guys.
Everyone be celebrating the end of college apps. Me just like… I still have 3 more apps…
Can we all appreciate speed-writing literally 15 long supplementals for yesterday’s deadline (yes, actual writing, not reusing)? I am so proud of the worst crap I have ever written! But seriously, I don’t even know why I bothered to apply when my supplementals were so terrible. I had planned for that to happen, thinking I would have the most personal writing if I left it to last-minute. But looking back on that, I want to fight myself and root out the ignorance. Especially after seeing how seriously everyone is taking apps; I took this super lackadaisical approach of “I am who I am mofo” instead of trying to present my… best self? Idk I kinda regret it, but simultaneously I’m like, “I don’t want to go anywhere that doesn’t want me, flaws and all.” Eh, nobody to blame but myself.
Speaking of essays at the last minute, can anyone give some advice? For my common app essay, I got it reviewed by two people at a local community college. After some corrections, both said that my writing was getting pretty good, but one suggested I scrap the essay completely because it was about an in-school incident and colleges would rather read about my activities outside of school. Should I take the advice and rewrite my essay? The biggest problem I have with this is that I need to get it done by this Friday because I know I will not have time to work on it this weekend or next week, so I’m not sure I can get out another decent quality essay with just Wednesday and Thursday nights (along with the supplements I have to do).
@Dax123 i think you should write about what YOU want to write about. usually supplements give ample opportunity to talk about what you do outside of the classroom (or reveal another side of yourself). I wrote about an experience in some of my classes that led to my personal development, so i guess that’d be considered “in-school”
this is getting kinda rambly, but i think you should keep it as it is
@Faultystart Thanks! That makes me feel a lot better.
@Dax123 Hey! I agree with Faulty. You should write about what appeals to you
But if you need another editor, you can PM me
I have UPenn to submit and that’s about it. Honestly I wrote mine and everyone was so critical about it but I just kept it cuz it was what I wanted to write about.
Oh man, graduation feels so close but so far. All A’s except a “C” in Math.
If only math were easier. If only…
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on here, but I’ve been incredibly busy with 1st semester (physics killed me) and college apps, but we’re almost done with college app season now. The long wait begins…
Congrats to everyone who got in early and for the RD peeps like me, let’s hope March and April bring good news!
On a side note, does anyone know how to approach a statement of purpose, specifically for a scholarship? I’m still on break and have no one to ask besides google, which hasn’t been that helpful.
@Dax123 idk if this will help but I was applying for a diversity program at one of my top schools and one of the people who looked at my essays told me that one was okay but I needed to scrap the other one, so I said screw you and sent them in and got accepted to attend the program. Don’t let one person discourage you. Ask for more opinions and don’t be scared to say “someone said I should start over because…, what do you think?”
I like how Hamilton college put the exact date and time decisions will be released on there portal as far as i’ve seen none of my other schools have done that.
I don’t rellly like the the estamates of sometime in march or april I like precision and I like knowing the date and time ii’ll get my rejection letter.
Sence their thinking far ahead the letter might not be complete BS
Same! When I logged into the portal and saw that it made me really happy. Also I have a love/hate thing where they only notify you through a letter (if rejected/waitlisted) or package (accepted). On one hand it’s pretty cool, on the other hand it sucks because everything ships on April 1, I live on the other side of the country, and that doesn’t leave a lot of time to book a flight to go visit
I’m finally stress free and just waiting on decisions
MIT notifies you for RD at 3/14 at 6:28 p.m. EST. They are so nerdy! I love it!
@fantasyreader that’s so funny I love that too!
One! App! Left!
Well, I told myself I wouldn’t leave my last app to the (near) last minute, but I’m doing that anyway…
I have an alumni interview at 8 and I’m so nervous argh. all my others so far were with seniors at the school - this feels so intimidating!!!
@greenteen17 – If it isn’t 8 in your timezone yet, good luck!! I’ve had a few alumni interviews, and they’re usually pretty casual/not too bad.
@eyrar99 Hey, I just had it! Thanks for the encouragement:) It was really fun actually. We share lots of interests and had stuff to talk about The only awkward part was at the end I asked for her email not remembering that it was an alumni interview and I already have it lol. I was used to the interviewers giving me business cards. It’s ok, though…I think she likes me!!
What school?
