High School Class of 2018

@nyuhopeful44 Here’s my list:

Reaches: Caltech, Harvard, Harvey Mudd, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, UChicago
Matches: Amherst, Berkeley, Carleton, Reed, Rice, Swarthmore, Williams
Safeties: UA, UC Irvine, UIUC

My reaches are way up there… And so are my matches… And my safeties, probably…

@ak2018 wow thanks! I’ll look into it!
@mutedmornings you seem like you have similar stats to me based on what you consider matches/reaches. Best of luck!

About the edx thing - I took the HarvardX AnatomyX: Musculoskeletal Case course last year just for fun, I didn’t complete it yet but it was really interesting and well taught. It’s archived and open for enrollment so if anyone is interested in medicine I highly recommend it.

Hi everyone, been awhile. I just cam back from YALE Model UN. Let’s just say, I’m not gonna apply to Yale anymore.

@apple1893 why not?

@nyuhopeful44 because New Haven is such an usafe are. I can’t tell you how many people tried to ask me for money, block my path, or even attempt fighting. It is such a crime scene up there.

@apple1893 oh really?! I might have to take it off my list too then

@nyuhopeful44 Don’t get me wrong, the school and campus are great, but I feel my safety comes first.

@nyuhopeful44 Great! Nice to know that I helped a little.

@Lbelle43 How long did it take to complete? Have you taken a class on edX before and plan to consider taking one again?

I need help with my survey, guys.

I just received 11 responses so far, I need at least 25 at this point.

Ask me for the link please.

I love to help @cxprus What’s it about?

@ak2018 it’s for ib personal project, it’s about technology and the connection of society.

Sure I guess send me the link @cxprus How long is it?

@ak2018 according to the website, it takes 3-6 hours per week for 8 weeks, but I didn’t have that much time to devote to it so I’ve just been doing it for a few hours once a month or two. That was the first class I’ve done on edx, but I would definitely consider doing one again. I really want to do AP bio at some point as my school does not offer it

@cxprus I’ll take it!

@Lbelle43 That is why I would highly recommend taking a class over the summer. I had planned to do AP Environmental Science on edX over this summer. I would do two hours per day and be finished with the first part in a week and a half. I would finish the whole course in a month and a half. It even has review guides, multiple choice questions, and practice AP tests. A popular way to use the AP course on edX is to take the course and do the exam, with taking an actual in-seat class. Here’s the AP Biology Part 1 course description:

Preparing for the AP Biology exam requires a deep understanding of many different topics in biology as well as an understanding of the format of the AP exam and the types of questions it asks. This course is Part 1 of our AP Biology series designed to prepare you for the AP Biology exam.

In Part 1, you will learn about the cell, its structure, its functions, and the chemistry that drives all of the processes cells carry out on a daily basis.

As you work through this course, you will find lecture videos taught by expert AP Biology teachers, practice multiple choice questions and free response questions that are similar to what you will encounter on the AP exam and tutorial videos that show you step-by-step how to solve problems. By the end of the course, you will be prepared to take on the AP exam!

It would take 2 - 4 hours a week for 6 weeks per part. There are 5 or 6 parts, so if you did two hours a day this summer, you’d be finished with AP Biology in two months.

@cxprus I’ll take it. Message me the link.

My list:
High Reaches: Stanford,
Low Reaches: Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley
Matches: UCLA, American
Safeties: Temple University,

@ all of yall getting snow, I cackling. Down here (Louisiana) we don’t get snow, EVER.

@nyuhopeful44 UC’s don’t count pluses or minuses and they don’t count honors courses for OOS students only AP’w so that means you’re GPA is currently the same as me(4.2) you got a 30 on the ACT a 1450 is apparently equivalent to a 31(because the PSAT is slightly easier) so I’d say our chances are similar for UCLA considering they are such a stats oriented school

@ak2018 how hard are the courses in your opinion?
