@BucketsUCSC It isn’t always grade inflation. SAT scores only show how well you were prepared to take a test. Nothing else and nothing more. GPA never shows the full story and one could argue that rank doesn’t either. That is why many schools choose to evaluate each applicant holistically.
@Hamlon @BucketsUCSC Plus I don’t believe a 4.6 is possible. When you see anything over a 4 you have to remember schools weight differently
My school doesn’t do curves/inflating of grades.
I’m here, at 11 pm, writing essays for summer programs. Hopefully I get in!
@apple1893 Which ones are you applying to?
@apple1893 RELATABLE. I just finished my Yale Young Global Scholars application. Might not even go due to the ever so depressing Canadian economy.
@apple1893 your school may not do curves but there could still be grade inflation a good away of checking is by getting a general idea of what scores most A, B,and C students get on their AP tests
@averagebean @apple1893 good luck! I’m doing the same thing, except it’s 10 over here. I’m only applying to local ones.
I’m not doing any summer programs but I am taking two prerequisites for AP classes, playing travel softball, working, and voulnteering at UofM hospital. I also might do one of those edx courses
yeah i’m not doing summer programs either. I’m gonna do research, probably travel abroad and maybe get some volunteering out of the way. next summer i probably will apply to RSI and some others just cause.
All most all summer programs are waaaay too expensive.
I was planning to do the HOBY WLC this summer in Chicago because I was nominated to be my local representative but the WLC cost went up and it’s so expensive now. Might as well save the money for a car or college
@BucketsUCSC I believe the only weight my school adds is one as in an AP bump.
Yeah I don’t really understand all the summer program hype
@reidd799 I apply to Summer programs because I get really bored halfway through the Summer and would rather be doing something new. Some programs give you opportunities that you would never have during the school year to explore topics that really interest you. It’s really cool to meet new kids from places you have never been to. The only problem is that it’s really hard to find summer camps/programs that are free or able to give out need-based scholarships. Some people don’t feel the need to spend their Summer away from home and that’s perfectly fine.
do summer programs really give a boost to college admissions? (other than crazy prestigious ones obviously)
@gomar099 even those don’t do much
Well, I guess my best friend and I are no longer best friends anymore. We kind of texted each other and I told him how I felt. On Monday, I’m officially going to, hopefully, end the friendship for good. Honestly, I just felt like it was forced. Anyone have any advice on how to get straight to the point?
And I guess Valentine’s Day is coming up lol. Anybody got a special someone in their life? Because I don’t! :)) :((
@ak2018 I don’t either! I do have a guy in mind, and I got him a candy gram that the Junior Class Council sells. Pity they aren’t carnations like last year. It’s the thought that counts, right?
The Berklee Jazz Festival was yesterday!!! My jazz band participated in it, but we didn’t compete. The jazz choir did, though, and they got 8th overall!! All of us got great advice from the judges, and I was even told by my judges that I did really well on the doubling (playing 2 instruments in jazz - flute and tenor sax). Off to District Jazz on Wednesday!!
Sorry that I could not answer any of your questions, I’ve had a busy weekend.
I am applying to free/very cheap summer programs at prestigious universities. They are programs that last about 1 week to 3 weeks.
Also, Summer programs are perfectly fine and should not be hated on. They are not all expensive, and if you say that they are then you are not doing enough research. I am applying to engineering programs because I enjoy engineering and want to learn more.
Now I get to watch the Super Bowl and relax. I’ve followed 17 weeks of football and I’m about to get hype.
