High School Class of 2018

Am I the only one with a vacation this week?

@tonyk16 I have it, too!!

@Hamlon @awesomepolyglot Ayyy  Are you fraternal or identical? I’m fraternal. Its funny when ever a kid or teacher finds out. My English teacher has my sister and I for different periods, and she didn’t realize we were sisters until we worked on an inter-class project together. We have the same Latin period, but it took the teacher several days to realize we were related. Its not like our last name is common, so its strange.

@ak2018 Just saying that I finished Gravity Falls last night and I CAN’T orz I’m in denial, I don’t feel like the series is over.

@HelloThereHola I am very fortunate to live in a generally well-off town with great public schools, but unfortunately my family’s income does not share in that wealth. :stuck_out_tongue: It kinda sucks when you hear about the vacations and things everyone has, when you have never been on a plane and probably won’t until you graduate college and can pay for it yourself. On top of that, having a twin makes everything double. Every $40 field trip becomes $80, and that adds up fast. That also makes summer programs hard, since my family can’t pay for them. I’ve never been to summer camp, which I guess doesn’t seem like a big deal but I always hear about people who go every year to these great camps with their friends they’ve had for years and I feel like I’ve missed out. We don’t have anything saved for college either, which makes financial aid and scholarships crucial. However, I know it could be a lot worse. I should just be grateful for what I have. And, if it makes you feel any better, I’m going to DC this Friday through Monday with my synagogue, which had to pay for most of the expenses for my sister and I, since my family couldn’t afford to pay for the both of us. ^^’

@averagebean I’m similar to you my family makes around 200k however I’m the one whose cheap and I wouldn’t say my parents like to splurge but they’re definitely more open to spend freely. My parents are first generation immigrants so they have this misconception that private universities are so much better then public so my dad keeps telling me that if I can’t get into USC I should go to pepperdine. However I’d prefer UCSB or UCLA(if I can get in), pepperdine isn’t even on those schools level. Do you guys think that USC(for business) would be worth the additional 100K over 4 years even though it’s more prestigious do you think UCSB is that far off this is more of a question to the cali people

For reference USC is ranked 23ed UCLA like 18th and UCSB 38th but USC is the only school with a business program

I have a fraternal twin so i get the struggle of everything being double loll. I haven’t been on a vacation since like 6th grade, my mom is an immigrant from the Caribbeans.

I have an Irish twin. We were both born in 2000. Everyone thinks she’s older because she’s taller than me, when in actuality I’m older … by 51 weeks. Sometimes people think we’re twins. Apparently we look alike.

Hey @frazzledazzle since I know we are from relatively the same area, are there any good volunteer or internship program’s in the area. I want to do one this summer and I don’t really care if it is paid or not. I will be talking to my guidance counselor about helping me sign up/pick a program, but just thought I could get some advice from a peer first. Thanks. PM me if you want.

@tonyk16 Some good volunteerism opportunities that I have done in the past (and still do currently) are volunteering for the Maine Discovery Museum in Bangor and also the American Folk Festival in August, also in Bangor. Both always need volunteers, especially the Folk Festival. They aren’t paid, though. As for internship programs, I have no idea. I’ve heard a few things about a paid research internship at UMaine from some of my upperclassmen friends, but I have to look into it more.

I’m gonna have two AP tests on the same day this year :((

Wow. There are a lot of people on here who have twins. What a weird coincidence lol.
@LeopardFire yeah, I’m grateful for what I have too. I haven’t been on vacation ever lol. I always see people going to Disney Land or to New York and stuff over breaks and I’m just sitting at home watching netflix looking at their snapchats. It could be worse as you said, so that’s the plus side to this situation.

@Kelvin82 That’s a weird problem to have. I’m Hispanic but you can’t really tell since my skin is so light. Most people assume everyone here has money.
I still think it’s great that we are all so diverse. A good mix of great people.

@HelloThereHola I’m Greek. I actually get confused with being Hispanic at my school quite often. People have nicknamed me Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite because of my hair, skin tone, and the fact that I am short and wear plaid/flannels a lot. Lol.

@tonyk16 I can already picture you haha. When I moved to this school system in the eighth grade, everyone thought I was Italian. My name is Antonio, but I thought that was more of a Mexican name and not Italian. Well, I do have light brown hair and most Mexicans (around GA at least) have black hair so that could be a contributing factor,

You guys know what just occurred to me? My school still hasn’t handed out PSAT reports? lol I thought all schools did.

@HelloThereHola Hahahaha, my name is Antonio also! I believe it is an Italian, Spanish, and Greek name. That is so hilarious. #Voteforpedro

@tonyk16 What the heck!! :)) :)) Now I’m officially baffled. My nickname is also Tony. And oh! Now I see why. What a weird coincidence! I can’t even!

I hate APUSH so so so much. Our school doesn’t allow midterms because of PARCC taking up too much time so my teachers get around it by making midterms stretch out over 4-5 days. My APUSH one has been going on for 2 days now (2 in class DBQs) and tomorrow is the 150 mc in a 40 minute period. I literally know nothing and I’m just so done. I can’t believe I have to sit through another year of this.

@BucketsUCSC Best of luck with USC and UCLA! My parents are first gen. immigrants as well so they’re also really keen on the whole “private is better” thing. However, my dad is a Yale graduate and he expects me to be the same but I doubt I’ll be able to get into Yale haha. But, maybeeee luck will be on my side.

@averagebean your old school was 120k a year? yikes! just out of curiosity lol, did you go to kim jong un’s school? because he went to a boarding school in switzerland before he became supreme leader of noko.
