High School Class of 2018

@gormar099 I think Kim Jong-Un studied at an all boys school. I went to Le Rosey. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever be a supreme leader. Maybe of my refrigerator but other than that…

Can you all tell me what you think of my abstract for the science fair? I think it’s good, but other opinions would be greatly appreciated! I’ll PM whoever wants to read it it. Thanks!

@averagebean For some reason, I find your profile picture rather amusing.

@frazzledazzle I’ll read it bro

@tonyk16 It’s my go-to reaction face for everything.

@HelloThereHola my school hasn’t handed out PSAT reports either

And on the note of identity crisis. I’m half Russian (mom was born there) but everyone thinks I’m British cause I have this weird accent/speech problem/nasal problem idk… I hate it especially cause people I don’t know well sometimes have trouble understanding me and you know, that always helps boost a shy person’s confidence sigh

@snowfairy137 Some people say I have a weird accent too! I swear I talk clearly but a lot of people keep saying what so I have to slow down my speech to where it’s literally unbearable to me. Apparently to others, it sounds perfectly normal. Something is wrong with my brain I guess.

@hellotherehola yep, my voice sounds perfectly fine to me too, but I guess not…

You guys I’m still drowning in anxiety because of the EC/community service conflict for me. If top colleges want an ec that stands out, I’m certainly not going to make it. The only thing I can think of is my inclination towards band but I have tried so hard to even make district honor band but I fail. A lot of kids who make it into those have private lessons, but that is not an option. I keep trying to improve but it’s going nowhere. I know people say don’t put things on your application just to look good to colleges, but you still have to try to achieve something noteworthy.
I’ve had several solos in my high school band. I had a solo during marching season and that went well. I attended an honors band camp last summer, but that wasn’t a trying out process. I am also trombone section leader and principle player at my school. We also got invited to march in the national memorial day parade which I told you guys about. It’s just that I’m concerned since I can’t play professionally. I dont know… I’m being a typical worry wart. I’ve also asked this questions here before, but what’s your golden activity you do?
At this point, I look well rounded and mediocre in everything I do.

@averagebean thankfully my parents don’t have any unrealistic expectations for me and I like that. But with me doing pretty well on the PSAT(1440/1520) they now keep telling me to believe in myself and I can get into UCLA if I put my mind to it. That’s great and all but I’d personally be really happy at UCSB

@hellotherehola (I’ve tagged you in like 3 separate posts in the past 15 minutes this is weird haha) something I’ve just been trying to do is just to do my absolute best in one thing I like. For me its a little more unique, robotics, but it still not “out there” by any stretch of the imagination, I’m trying to do more by becoming a leader on my team, putting a lot of hours into it, mentor younger kids, going to start my own robot project etc . For band, idk what specifically you could do… if you can play music at your church (if that’s something you go to) I would look into that (I play violin at mine) or maybe some other sort of community outreach with your instrument like joining or creating an ensemble that plays at community or charity events idk or you could start giving lessons in your instrument to younger kids. You could also try to move up in your band (not exactly sure what drum major is, but I know its a top position at least at my school). If its possible at all (and I know music can be ultra scary competitive) practice for like a year in advance and try to qualify for state in a music competition if you have those. These are just ideas and of course you don’t have to listen to me because I don’t know your exact circumstances, but I hope I helped.

Have you guys been getting obsessed with learning about colleges lately or is it just me? I’m starting to build a college list already haha.

what is yours as of now? @snowfairy137

@snowfairy137 I didn’t even notice lol. I could get more more involved by looking into more bands I could get into. I’m going to attempt to make at least district honor band next year. If I really try, I bet I could do it. Thanks for your ideas. Making state is probably a big stretch for me lol. I would try to pursue another area, but that would make it look like I am just padding out my resume. I wish these honor bands weren’t so tough… when i attended that band camp, the trombones there scared me at how long they had been playing and how well they could. I’m glad you have your robotics, it’s more unique than band. You’ve inspired me haha.
I was just about to tag that last post but then i realized it was you again lol. I have been getting obsessed too which is why I’m trying to make myself a decent applicant. I have a college lists too lol.
I still have no idea what I want to do or major in. Do you?

Okay wow I’ve been very active the past couple of days lol. Sorry guys… it’s break and I have nothing else to do haha

@gomar099 Currently its University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon, Olin, Worchester Polytechnic Institute, MIT, and Harvey Mudd (ehh… maybe)

Most of the ones on my list have something that’s reallly hard to find for undergrad, a robotics engineering degree and the ones that don’t take a very personalized route for engineering education (excluding MIT and Udub) I don’t really have any safeties yet either haha
Ironically the schools I’m most interested in are all the way across the country (I live in Washington State lol)

How about you?

@HelloThereHola I’ve wanted to peruse robotics for my major for a while now but I’m definitely the exception to the rule, most people are in your boat

@nyuhopeful44 Good job! Lol Sorry this is so late! Hopefully, you’ll be able to tell her about the summer classes and figure it out.

@BucketsUCSC I actually love both Math and Science. Then again, I’m an aspiring engineer. I actually find the Algebras very easy and Chemistry challenging, the good kind of challenge.

@LeopardFire I wish the show didn’t end, but Alex Hirsch confirmed it. Maybe he’ll do another show. I live in the DC area. It’s okay.

@HelloThereHola Same! I’ve never gone on a vacation ever. I’ve been to an amusement park once. It was Kings Dominion back in 2013.

I’m black and my name is Albert, btw. You don’t know how much I hate it when people call me fat Albert. I’m not even fat. I’m pretty skinny and tall. I’m 6 foot.

Also, I thought you were a girl all this time! :open_mouth: Lol. I shouldn’t have judged you based off of your profile pic.

@HelloThereHola @tonyk16 The fact that you both have the same name is actually really interesting. Maybe everyone will be able to say there name on here, when they’re comfortable.

@averagebean Your profile pic can be used in almost any situation. Running to class, going faster on a test. lol
