I’m experiencing major grade deflation and laziness issues. Do y’all have any study tips and tricks you can share? I’m desperate and my overall average has dropped by 17% (ouch!) and now, I even feel tempted to bribe the teacher
@nyuhopefull44 i know that it’s fine to not have a list of schools set in stone. But how am I full of myself when, I actually look at schools outside the US news top 20. How am I full of myself when i look at schools that actually match my ability based off what I have done so far and not have an unrealistic reach where the average is a full point above my GPA.
@BucketsUCSC because you assume by doing so and the tone in which you post about it on here that the rest of us haven’t so that somehow your college list is “better” than ours.

@BucketsUCSC maybe we have better grades than you
Lol. Why is everyone ganging up on @BucketsUCSC ? Let’s just forget about it and move on. Forgive, forget. Let bygones be bygones.
@BucketsUCSC I’m guaranteed entry into UT or Texas A&M because of the top 10 percent rule. Why not aim for really nice schools if you’re already a high match for the state university? Also, private universities give out better scholarship offers than public ones. UT is pretty stingy and I would probably save more going to some of the private schools on my list. I already know I am going to have to work through college. Why not make the burden a little smaller? I also really don’t get your obsession with UCs. What happens if you end up hating the one you get into? They are all you ever talk about on this thread. I agree with @nyuhopeful44 and @snowfairy137 . This isn’t the first time you’ve made comments on this thread implying that you are better than everyone else. To be frank, I tend to greatly dislike elitists. Your true personality really shined through in that thread you made about low income kids. You might be smart on paper, but you’re pretty ignorant about a lot of real-world things. Get over your self.
@mamaba Yeah, I’m just finishing up the essays for one of the Austin sites. I live like 5 hours away though, so I plan on either living with a relative or renting a dorm room. It’s really expensive to do the latter. I’m hoping I have family that will let me stay for 7 weeks. I could drive myself home on the weekends to save a little more money. This is just in case I don’t make it though the interview phase of another program I applied to. My sister already applied and is looking into other Summer programs.
@averagebean The only tips I know are don’t procrastinate, communicate with your teachers periodically, keep a planner, study for tests a couple days in advance, and get enough sleep. I don’t follow either of these half the time though.
@ak2018 It’s hard to forgive someone when you know they’ll do the same thing again.
Are any of you guys taking the SAT march or have taken it yet?
@premednyy I also want to go into premed! I haven’t yet taken the SAT but I did take the ACT without studying and I got a 30. I plan to retake it in october
@ak2018 I’ve been doing pretty good! School is consuming my life at the moment, but it’s my fault because somewhere I decided it would be a good idea to get grossly behind in APUSH. Oh well. What have you been up to?
@nyuhopeful44 A 30 for a sophomore is great! You’ll get into NYU no problem. I got a 26. My scores in reading and science are disasters, but I got a 33 on the English section and a 27 on the math section. I made it my goal to get it up to a 30 by the end of this year. Let’s hope.
If anyone else took the ACT already, what score did you get?
@neptuna those were my same subscores! I had a 33 English, 27 Math, 30 Reading, and 29 Science
Anyone else considering a military academy? At times I’m really interested then I think about the 8 years I’m essentially controlled for
@reidd799 I really admire people who do that. I’m not brave enough to fight in a war, nor do I ever want to be forced to run 10 miles at 5am. But I think god for the people who have the guts/drive to fight for our country
@ak2018 I’m doing pretty well for someone who feels like their life is going to fall apart any second now. Lol :)) My grades are not good right now, but I’m not that worried as I have time. I have 2 A’s, 1 B+, 3 B’s, 1 C+, and 1 C. They’re getting better.
@Hamlon I know. I just didn’t want any fights to happen on this thread. I know that there will be disagreements, but we really don’t know each other in real life. I’m not taking any sides here.
@reid799 I won’t but I agree with @nyuhopeful44 Since attending my high school 6 months ago, I have gained newfound respect towards men and women in uniforms. My high school contains many students who have family members who are active-duty or retired from the military or any branch of the armed forces, so a lot of people at my school, myself included, support the U.S. Armed Forces. Now I don’t support war, but after going through an intense debate one day with my one friend, I’ve learned that war is, unfortunately, necessary for the evolution of man and technology and it makes since as well. I mean, for the most part, I stopped believing in world peace a long time ago. It just don’t think it’s possible as there must always be conflict. Without conflict, the world would not be the way it was today as all of this was necessary for humanity to grow. Ironically, without war and conflict, I would be typing this write now. If you trace it back far enough, the telegraph was likely among one of the first methods of texting. Computers used to take up rooms of space and were mainly used by government facilities and businesses.
Smh “fights.” Please, it’s the Internet. Disagreements are going to happen. Welcome to the big boy side of the Internet, no opinions can be censored. This isn’t Club Penguin.
@ak2018 And also, I beg to differ on your point that world peace is impossible. If it were impossible, political leaders would stop trying by now. Yes, disputes would still go on and there will still be conflict as we are all human beings. There will be hateful groups but the good people will outnumber the hateful by far. War and destruction of civilizations may possibly come to an end. The world should take peaceful nations as an example such as Iceland and Switzerland. World peace will always be achievable if nations decide to work together.
@averagebean I knew that there would be disagreements, I was just stating how it’s too easy to get into an argument on the Internet nowadays. Especially on Facebook, where people do not know who you are, therefore people are more bold in arguments as they will not have to see those people in real life. What they say won’t stick to their name as much as if you had said it real life as you could literally delete it at anytime. Sometimes, the tone and mood of an argument is just best said in real life instead of on the Internet. I just feel like we shouldn’t focus on this whole argument so much as the main reason why most of us are here is to find others who share the same love of higher education. I just didn’t want this really good page to turn into one of those Facebook debate posts but I just realized that I too, have also contributed to the problem and therefore I take full responsibility for my actions. I’m sorry if any of my views on World peace had offended you or anyone else. I just hope we can just put this whole thing behind us and continue to do what most of us came here for.
