High School Class of 2018

@mutedmornings I might get into NYU. We’ll see

@joyce1517 our school lets freshman and sophomores take any APs that they meet the prerequisites for. Typically it’s AP World Freshman, and Sophomores take APUSH, AP Psych, AP Bio, and maybe APES. I know one sophomore in AP Physics. I’m sure some math geniuses are in AP Calc as well. It just depends on what you are ready for and what you want to take

@mutedmornings I wish… I mean my dream school is Columbia and I’m quickly realizing how unexceptional I am lol

Is anyone else going through a really tough stress period. I’ve been more stressed than usual and the Chemistry test I just took was the straw that broke the camels back. I think I over studied, and might have crammed, because when I took the test, my mind went blank. I’m pretty sure I got below a 40%. Does anyone know how to deal with this? :((

@ak2018 Me too. Most people say second semester is the easiest, but I beg to differ. I start to shut down after so many months of school, and a loss of motivation on top of homework, studying, state tests, AP exams, planning for next year, etc. makes everything so much more difficult. I have no solution, but at least you’re not alone!

I don’t know how I wasn’t told this before, but apparently AP exams are free at my school. This is a miracle. Guess who’s taking every AP exam they can? Me.

@neptuna LUCKYYYYY

Do any of you all the statistics about the placement rate for a job across the board Johns Hopkins hospital? I tried looking it up but couldn’t find it.

@neptuna Thanks. I just thought this was going to be my best quarter of the year. Oh well. I guess I’ll be fine with a B in Chemistry, for the third time in a row. :)) :(( I talked to my Chemistry teacher after the test and she said that if I truly knew the information, it wouldn’t have taken me so long to take the test. I mean, I knew the information pretty well and I studied for a good 30-45 minutes, it’s just that I also had quizzes for History and Health to study for. It felt like I was cramming. The worst thing is I felt like all of the teachers at my school purposely tried to end their current unit all at once, causing the whole entire week to be filled with tests and quizzes just so we wouldn’t have to remember anything over Spring Break. I’d honestly rather remember everything over and after Spring Break, then ever have to go through this week again. The Chemistry test will hurt my grade, but probably by a good two letter grades. I’m expected to go down from a B+ to a C+. We still, however, have one more test this quarter, so I have to do really well on that one. It’s definitely going to be a tough unit though.

I also talked to one of the AP Chemistry teacher, who had been told by my Chemistry teacher about my test (I did not she was such a gossip) and said that it’s fine and she told me not to panic about it. She also told me that it’s simply one of my weaker areas in Chemistry, my strongest being Nomcleature and Balancing Equations, and that I could work on it next year. And even if I end up getting the only other AP Chemistry teacher in our school, which is highly unlikely as he usually only teaches one AP Chemistry class, she’ll still help me. She is so nice and helpful. I kinda wish she was my current Chemistry teacher, she teaches Honors Chemistry but mainly for freshmen. Unlike my current teacher, she allows for test corrections to earn back half of the points you missed on a test. I can now understand why people at my school call her “The Chem Goddess”! ^:)^ Lol

@neptuna Good lol! Now you don’t have to pay for all of your AP exams. My school also pays for the AP exam, as long as you’re currently in that class. People who self-study have to pay it themself. Bu t wait, I thought you said you go to online school.

@joyce1517 Yay, me too! Ironic how we could’ve saw each other. And, I feel you on the time increase. I’m slower by almost 5 seconds for the 100m dash LOL. My triple jump hasn’t been going well lately either. Oops.

@averagebean oh like you were there at Stanford last year?

@nyuhopeful44 oh I see because at my school, unless you skip levels of math or science, you don’t take honors or APs as a freshman. we don’t have a lot of honors and APs like AP Psych, APEs, etc. are mainly for juniors
sophomores take AP Euro or AP World

Has anyone who applied to Summer programs heard back yet? I don’t hear back till mid April- early May. I’ve decided if I don;t get admitted, then I will take classes at a community college.

@joyce1517 Yeahh. I ran relay and did triple jump.

@apple1893 Nope! I applied to Yale Young Global Scholars but I think decisions come back mid-April and early May like yours. If I don’t get admitted, I guess I’ll just sleep and eat all day summer and ditch other plans.

I applied to Girls Who Code and I am so nervous. The results will probably be out in early April.

@OneNormalKnight scioly is really fun. At our school, we have a team of up to 15 people and 3 alternates. Over time, as we all study and cram to do well at regionals and states, we really become a family. If you want to start a team, talk to your AP Bio teacher. There might be a lot of interest in scioly at your school or there might not be. If many students are interested, making them take tryout tests for the events they want to do would be helpful in weeding out the committed people from the slackers. For tryout tests, you can use the tests at scioly.org. There is a tests exchange that is super helpful. The website also has a wiki on each of the events.

What I know is that during my freshman year, only 10 people were interested in science olympiad. Our team had space for 7 more members, so I was lucky to get in. After last year’s seniors got accepted into MIT, UPenn, Cornell, Rice, Yale, Northwestern, and Stanford, suddenly, everyone was interested in being a part of the team. That is why for this year, more than 70 people showed up to try out. I feel slightly irritated that they are only interested because of college apps, but that is my personal opinion.

Well Spring Break officially starts today. Thank God I made it. ^:)^ I’m going to have track practice on Monday and Wednesday at 12pm over break and try to study and take my permit test. I’m just ready to relax.

@ak2018 We still have 1 more week till spring break and we only get one week off smh.

@kelvin82 Well, everyone wants to go to a prestigious university. Honestly, most of the people who show up just because of the college apps are probably not even going to try hard which is sad ):

@ak2018 I’m in online school, but they also have physical schools that are extensions of the online program and administer the exams. I was trying to find a local school to register with so I wouldn’t have to drive as far, but now that I know I can take them for free if I register through my online school, I don’t care about driving anymore. :stuck_out_tongue: I probably should’ve been more specific and said you have to pay in full if you don’t qualify for the $30 fee waiver, but if you do, the entire thing is covered.

Chemistry is my least favorite subject. I’d be proud of yourself for just having the willpower to take AP Chemistry, hahaha.

To those taking AP exams, what scores do you expect to get? I’ll probably get a 3 on the APUSH exam and then 4’s on the AP Econ exams although ideally I’d like to score higher.

Currently studying the Virginia Drivers’ Manual. My 8-year-old self would be proud.
