Do you think that emailing professors at my local university about summer internship opportunities will come off as weird?
@mutedmornings No, not at all. Many people do, and if that is something you are interested in go for it!
@mutedmornings Lol! not at all. In fact, I just might do that!
I decided to take Spanish 4 this summer and do AP Spanish online as a 7th hour next year. So now my schedule is:
Summer 2016
Spanish 4
Chemistry
Junior Year
AP English Literature
AP US Government (1st sem)
Medical Career Foundations (2nd sem)
AP Economics
AP Chemistry
Medical Interventions
Honors Precalculus
AP Spanish
Summer 2017
Art (for UCs)
Senior Year
AP English Language
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics 1
Biomedical Innovations
Health Occupations (2 hour block)
I like this better because now I can take Health Occupations, where I get to work in a hospital second semester
@nyuhopeful44 I like your schedule. All I can say is that Chemistry can be pretty hard, but easy when done well.
May I ask why you are taking AP English Literature instead of AP English Language next year?
Also are you taking any PLTW Medical classes?
Also, I have a question for everyone. Would it be a good idea to E-mail the same letter to a lot of Virginia Tech Engineering professors at one time about some of the questions I had? I feel like it would give my questions more of a chance to be answered. Any thoughts?
Why would you even have questions for them haha? @ak2018
What AP Exams are you guys prepping for this year?
@ak2018 I think that it is more professional if you email each individually. This way the prof knows your serious.
@savagestudent7 Mainly questions I have already asked, but from a professor’s prospective.
Also, is that UVA Cavalier symbol I see? Do you also live in Virginia? Lol, Virginia Tech’s rival nonetheless.
@apple1893 Thanks. I’ll probably just go through the research pages of the professors and see which one interests me the most.
@ak2018 Is it possible to do research by my self, or do I have to be accompanied by a prof? I want to do something with astronomy.
@apple1893 You will most likely have to do research by yourself prior to emailing the prof so you know what you’re going to do. Otherwise, the professor’s probably gonna be like “wtf does this kid want with me” and turn you down. When you get accepted, you should have an idea on what you’re going to research on obviously. But, if you specified that you’re interested in what that particular prof is working on, he/she might allow you to assist them. That’s how these things work. If you have no idea what you’re going to do, you might as well head to your local library and find something.
@ak2018 I decided to take AP Lit first to save the easier one for senior year. Medical Interventions and Biomedical Innovations are the 3rd and 4th year of the PLTW Medical Track
@apple1893 @averagebean probably put it into better words. I would, however, say to definitely research, on your own, more specifically into astronomy. Find a more specific topic that interests you. Then, I would go to a local university professor’s research page, it doesn’t even have to be of a local university professor, and see what he or she is up to and if it interests, or if you have any questions about what they’re doing or how you can get involved, contact them. Maybe, if you want, you could also ask a couple questions about the university that could help you with your research in the future, or could help decide if that university is really right for you.
@nyuhopeful44 I heard AP Lang was the easier class as, at my school, it only involves in-class writing and a couple chapters of reading a week.
@ak2018 yeah that’s why I’m saving it for senior year
@ak2018 Yes still very much alive :))
@savagestudent7 I’ll be taking AP Physics I and AP World History!
What do you guys want to do when you graduate uni? I reeally want to open my own smoothie/nice cream cafe and attend med school.
Or achieve world domination.
Either works, really.
@averagebean I also want to go to med school. A smoothie shop sounds so awesome!
@averagebean med school for me as well. I want to be a pediatric neurosurgeon
