High School Class of 2018

AP exams are getting so close!! :(( Also, how many ap study books did you buy for each class? They’re so expensive and can add up to be a lot!

@Hamlon Happy Birthday! Hopefully that gives you some time to relax after such a rough week.

@Hamlon You must have a really tough teacher. I would try explaining to him/her your situation and see if you can work things out. Maybe try getting your parents to e-mail them. Teachers will usually let you do almost anything once your parents get involved.

Sorry, the summer programs, BTW. That must suck.

Also, Happy Birthday Tomorrow! <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P You’re literally only a month older than me. My birthday is on the 10th of May. I’ll be 16 as well.

Also, I’m going to start a countdown to the AP tests today.

21 DAYS (3 WEEKS) UNTIL THE AP TESTS!

@Hamlon Happy almost birthday!! Are you getting your license soon? <:-P

@Hamlon Happy almost birthday!! Are you getting your license soon? <:-P

@neptuna Thanks!
@ak2018 The grade book already closed and it would be too much trouble to change it. I accept that it’s partially my fault and that I shouldn’t have waited so long to turn in my missed assignments.Oh well. I don’t think one B in an AP class will hurt me. I’ve learned my lesson.
@starbyte Lol. I don’t even have my permit yet. My parents keep saying they’ll let me start driver’s ed when I’m older. It’s been 2 years since I started begging. :))

@starbyte I bought 2 books for my AP Euro class, but I really only needed 1. I accidentally go the book that my teacher 10/10 would not recommend. (I misunderstood and bought 5 steps to a 5…horrible!!! :(( ) Now I am using Barron’s and it’s AMAZING!!! There are so many helpful charts and it’s really easing to understand!!! I’m pretty sure it up-trains for the test too so that’s a plus!!! Just ask your teacher what brand they would recommend because each is really good in some subject and lacking in others…or all…

@starbyte I bought the Princeton review for each of my exams

Is it just me or do you guys think that Ivy and top schools are overrated? In the end, it doesn’t really matter where you go for your undergraduate…right?

There’s just so much pressure put onto students to get into a top university like Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc. And, it’s just for the name.

It’s just sad.

Sup guys. Next year I signed up for:

  1. AP Calculus AB
  2. AP Calculus BC
  3. AP Language and Composition
  4. AP Physics 1
  5. H World History
  6. AP Human Geography
  7. Forensics / H Contemporary Voices
  8. Study Hall

But I’m thinking of dropping AP HUG for H French 4 cause some top schools want four years of foreign language and my state schools will waive off college French by taking two years more than required. What do you all think? Thank you.

@Hamlon Is your teacher allowed to just not accept make-up work from days you missed? That sounds pretty unfair :confused: But a B in an AP class isn’t bad at all! AP Comp Sci is pretty hard, and it’s only your sophomore year. Maybe you could use this as motivation to do well on the AP exam :slight_smile:

@starbyte I got Barron’s for AP Comp Sci (even though my teacher gave us all older editions) and Princeton Review and Crash Course for AP Psych. I also have a Barron’s AP Psych book that I got 2 years ago. If you’re worried about the cost, try checking out a local library :o

@DaEmmJay23 I recommend that you take French instead of AP HuGe. AP HuGe is seen as a blowoff class and 4 years of foreign language is pretty important. Can you take it senior year instead? I guess you could drop the study hall if you want to take both

@LosingCrayon I have to take AP Hug for a graduation requirement for a program I am a part of and at my school it is ridiculous to not take a study hall with more than 2 APs especially since I play 3 sports.

@DaEmmJay23 You’re taking AP Calc AB and BC why not just BC

@LosingCrayon I turned it all in a day too late. I thought I was in the clear. Turns out when he said Thursday was the last day to submit grades, it was a reminder for him to put it in the portal. One B won’t be that bad that’s why I don’t want to make a fuss over my mistake. My parents weirdly weren’t that mad though. I guess they understand me well enough to know that I’ll attempt to get my grade up next grading period.
@starburst I’m using Barron’s and Litvin’s for Comp Sci and Ethel Wood for World.
@DaEmmJay23 Does your school offer a class after Calc BC? I don’t understand why you are taking both. You would need AB to understand the C part of BC if your school makes AB a prerequisite. Do you have the options of teaching yourself AB over the Summer or taking Calculus 1 at the community college? Does your school even require AB to go into BC or is it a 2 year sequence for Calculus instead? I’d fill the extra slot with French.

So I made like a checklist of all college tests I’m taking

@BucketsUCSC @Hamlon at my school we have a block schedule where it’s A day and b day, so I have the option of taking Calc AB w/ seminar everyday or doing AB/BC everyday. I have always been advanced in math (never getting lower than 100s). So all of my teachers have said doing AB everyday will be boring for me and AB/BC will be the best option for me. So the class is essentially Calc BC just for students taking it right after pre calc. And I can take Calc 3 and Linear Algebra senior year at the community college.

@DaEmmJay23 Ok. That makes sense.

So my school doesn’t offer anything above AP Calc BC (only AP Stats but that’s kinda going down a level in math) and next year I’m taking AP Calc BC. Does that mean I should do duel enrollment at our local community college? How does that work? Do I just take 5 high school classes rather than 6 senior year and take the one college math class? Has anyone done duel enrollment and could you please explain?
