@savagestudent7 you seem to know what you’re talking about lol, do you have any advice or experience with these classes? (or anyone else for that matter)
AP Calc BC
AP Euro
AP Bio
French 4H (I really don’t want to take it, but I have to)
AP Micro/AP Macro
AP Lit
AP Lang
I just found out from the GWC summer immersion program. I was accepted! It’s a very bittersweet feeling because I really really want to go and part of me is so happy about being accepted but I already committed to the HOBY WLC :(. I can still apply again next year (and I plan to) but it makes me feel like I’m already missing all the amazing opportunities I would’ve had there. Also I’m scared that GWC will hold it against my application next year (I hope they won’t but you never know).
@ak2018 Lol, how odd! I live in CT, and I know (from previous posts, I’m not a stalker lol) that you live in Virginia. We have most of our meets on Wednesday so I guess that is why lol.
@savagestudent7 I’m basically taking AP Calc BC. AB/BC is the name because the class is after Pre-Calc and my school runs a block schedule so I either taking AB w/ Seminar everyday or AB/BC everyday. I’m taking AP Physics 1 because my school has absolutely 0 good science teachers and I don’t have time to be teaching myself physics with sports all year. Also, I’m looking to be an applied math/Econ major so I’m just taking physics for fun and would rather focus and truly understanding Calculus, not just being able to compute.
@gormar099 Holy crap, that’s a lot of AP’s. To not stress yourself out, I’d really recommend taking either Lang or Lit because I don’t really see a point of doing both in one year. Replace that with some random class that you would enjoy. Most kids our age will do Lang next year and then go to Lit. Also, dropping one AP may help you do better in your other ones. Even if you drop one, Micro/Macro is like two classes so you’re practically still taking 6, but with less work. As for Calculus BC, at my school it is notoriously hard. Even people with high A’s in PreCalc do AB for the sake of their GPAs. I mean, if your calc teacher is pretty good, you’re skilled at math, and you’re confident you’ll get a better grade in BC than in AB, then go ahead and take it. What I hear is that for the first quarter you need to work really hard, but once you get the gist of it, it becomes sort of a cakewalk. The person who told me this also noted that once BC kids are comfortable with themselves, AB kids start to freak out because AB gets harder at this point in time. Ah, AP Euro. I didn’t take this class, but I did take AP World. AP World is one of the most annoying classes I’ve ever taken in my entire life. I can probably guarantee you that you’ll have to deal with LOADS of random busywork so get ready for that. If you can’t handle the constant outlining and other busy work, drop this class and take honors or something. Other than that, the material should be relatively straightforward. I did take AP Bio this year though…it’s fairly easy I have a 93%. The key to AP Bio is trying your very best on everything so that your test grade which may or may not be bad doesn’t hurt your grade. I call this process “cushioning” and I apply it to all of my AP classes. Definitely cushion for bio and don’t slack off or else you’re going to be stuck with an ugly grade. You should really pay attention in the first semester because that’s all of molecular biology–the harder concepts which most people don’t do so well on. I recommend actually doing your homework, making flash cards, or whatever the heck it is you do to remember what those processes and functions are in cells and whatnot. AP Bio also has the most busywork out of any AP Science class probably because it’s 90% conceptual. For Econ, this is really a hit or miss. Most people I know are either good at it or bad at it. My best advice is to pay attention in class and do the homework and problem sets so you grasp the confusing concepts…For French, if you have to take it, go ahead. I’m just saying you’ll be up till like 2 AM and be like “God, I have French homework!!!”
@savagestudent7 That is definitely some very good advice. And “Holy crap, that’s a lot of AP’s” is the same thing I said when I saw your schedule. :))
Just a tip for EVERYONE. A lot of colleges are saying that AP classes usually lose their wow factor once you’ve taken 7-8, meaning taking more than that doesn’t do as much for your college applications. The Ivy leagues are saying between 8 and 10. At that point, unless you’re completely interested in taking the class or want college credit, forcing yourself to take a certain AP class you’re not interested in is pointless.
Can anyone give me advice on my junior schedule? I can still change it but I’d like to hear what you guys have to say.
AP Lang
AP Bio
Honors Precalc
Honors Govt
Spanish III (or honors?)

Intro to Sociology
It’s the first time I’ll take AP’s and my school is limiting me to only 2. I find my full honors load this year fairly manageable so I’m hoping I can manage this as well.
@ak2018 Haha yeah dude. Although I may not want to take that many AP’s, my school is really competitive. So pretty much to boost my class rank I need to take more weighted classes. Oh yeah and I decided I’m taking 5 and not 6 (Doing DE Physics instead of AP) to not stress myself out and do better in the 5 that I’m taking. My weighted GPA after next year with that should be around a 4.46 which is good from a class-rank perspective.
@lindsgal Solid junior year schedule for what you’re definitely taking. It’s the perfect amount of rigor. I already elaborated on AP Bio earlier in this discussion. I’m in Pre Calculus Honors right now and it’s honestly much easier than Algebra II in my opinion. This may seem stupid, but the key to acing math IS practice. If you’re consistent about doing your bookwork in that class you’ll get the results you want. One time this year, I didn’t do my homework for an entire quarter…got an 82%. When I started doing it again, I was able to raise my grade by a landslide to like a 90%. Same thing for those of you who are going to take Calculus next year. Math class is like working out. You have to keep conditioning yourself with these problems until you become “Jacked Af”, but mathematically of course. If you can get an A in that class, take BC Calculus your senior year. This will look better to colleges because you’re picking the most rigorous option. On the contrary, AB is also good by all means. For APUSH, you’ve got to do your readings…Again, it’s a history class that has TONS of busywork. Also, work on your writing for this class because it’s a HUGE part of APUSH. Since I do debate, writing analytically and argumentatively comes naturally to me. For other people, writing is incredibly hard and it just TANKS their grades regardless of how great they are at the multiple choice. So for APUSH, write, write, write, and know your facts for sure. For AP Lang, all I can say is to work on writing just like history. It would also help if you have good reading comprehension skills because at my school at least they have a BUNCH of reading quizzes on various works of complicated literature. Oh yeah and I’m pretty sure Spanish won’t piss you off because you’re schedule isn’t TOO demanding lol…
As for deciding what to add…go for Co-Op and AP Stats. Having AP Stats will give you two years of an AP Mathematics class and Co-Op just seems fun to be honest. If you don’t get a job, still take AP Stats.
If not, then go for DE Accounting. I don’t really see a point in taking the other classes because the law classes are unweighted and “easy” and Psychology is kind of considered a blow off.
Looking at my schedule makes me want to faint. Luckily, my school gives you six weeks to drop classes without them showing up on your transcript, so if I get overwhelmed I’ll be fine.
Honors Precalc
AP Lang
AP Bio
AP Comp Sci
AP Stats
Intro to Politics (dual enrollment)
German 2
I’m really excited for Precalc and AP Bio though.
@mamaba I wish my school had Italian! I love German, but I’m Italian so I’d feel closer to my culture if I could actually speak the language. Anyway, I can tell you picked your schedule out smartly. It looks great!
@averagebean just tell them flat out. rip off the bandaid sooner rather than later i’ve learned with my parents if I tell them sooner rather than waiting and trying to hide it the results are better (note: my parents are not asian but they are extremely hard with grades)
Confirmed my courses for next year:
Chem 30 IB
Math 20 IB & Math 30 IB
Social 20 IB
English 20 IB + WIT 35
Physics 20 IB
Spanish 20 IB
I also have to start my EE, CAS hours, TOK.
My math mark dropped to 97 from a 100, after I got a 90 on a test today. I mean it’s still a good mark, and I can probably get it up to a 98-99, but I was really hoping to stay at 100. I’m also trying to get my chem 20 IB mark up to a 97 from a 96, since my teacher gives a 3% bonus to your mark at the end of the semester. I got a 100 on my stoichiometry quiz today, so that will help. On another note, my parents are trying to make me take bio in summer school, even though I have no interest in it. My mom is intent on me going into dentistry, even though I’m set on engineering.
