High School Class of 2018

@DaEmmJay23 I would avoid AP HUG, if possible, as it will seem like a put-on class as on senior. Maybe try another AP you’re interested in.

@KG5APR I agree with @Hamlon As I’ve said earlier in this thread, most colleges consider more than 7 APs to be the point that AP classes lose their wow factor. Meaning that making yourself take more than 7 APs, unless you are really interested in taking all of them, is meaningless, unless you plan to go to an Ivy league. The AP wow factor for Ivys is usually 8 - 12. Still, I’d drop one or two, if possible, and save them for senior year. Maybe drop one science AP and one history AP. Remember, your senior needs to look just as challenge as your junior year. If you plan to go an Ivy league, I’d say do no more than 5 APs a year. If not, take 3 - 4.

@Hamlon Sorry to hear about Girls Who Code. Good luck with Code@TACC. Hope for the best. I’ll cross my fingers for you!

Edit: My school doesn’t have APCS. They used to, but the first year they took the class, everyone said it was too hard. The closest thing my school has to APCS is Programming I and Advanced Programming, which teaches Visual Basic .NET, Java, C#, and C++. Graphical User Interfaces, such
as Alice, Game Maker, and Flash, as well as HTML and JavaScript.

@Hamlon I’ll definitely try and do a little bit of programming this summer. I want to learn about it before I take Engineering Explorations I/Robotics and POE which will require a little bit of programming knowledge. The only program I can use right now is Visual Basic.

@ak2018 I have to take AP Hug to get my recognition of completing my school’s Community Development and Global Citizenship program

@Hamlon today I went to tell my counselor to drop AP Physics to regular physics and she told be that the school wide course and bell schedule was rearranged, and I can take computer programming, AP physics, and AP Macro! It sounded too good to be true for the first few seconds…

@Hamlon and @ak2018 My school is very competitive academically. I know a guy in my grade taking 6 AP classes this year. I also want to challenge myself academically as well as explore different fields of interest in both History and Science. I understand where you are coming from; this course load will be a lot. The top ten percent in my school are taking at least five AP courses with the top ten students taking upwards of seven.

lmao y’all talking about how you’re taking 7 APs and I’m over here tryna switch schools so I can avoid taking 4

Speaking of APs, anyone taking chem, world, and/or Econ? I totally have it down for chem and Econ at this point but I’m honestly gonna fail world :frowning: I’m also taking SAT subject tests in math 2 and chem but those are jokes compared to the math and chem I do in school so I’m not too stressed tbh

A lot of you in here are lucky. I have two AP exams coming up, but my finals aren’t until June 13-16, so I still have to review and do class work in my APs.

@DaEmmJay23 My finals will last until June 17th and I’m only gonna be there to take one last final. Some people at my school will be taking finals from Monday all the the way to the end of the school year.

@KG5APR Well as long as you believe you’re able to handle the workload, you should be okay. It’ll likely be a bit challenging at times, but stick through it.

Best-ish day ever guys!!! (Yesterday-apparently I only saved this as a draft???)
OK so on Tuesday, my Euro class took our Unit 4 test (40 Multiple choice Q + 1 DBQ) and I thought I did well but then I was like—Maybe not----because that was our FIRST full DBQ! I was SOOO nervous!!! My teacher said she would put in our scores on Q on Friday. So today I was like is she going to put them in the morning? during Class? lunch? Prep period? after school?! I NEED TO KNOW!!! So I’ve checked my grades like 10 times today! And guess what!!! I got 33/34 on the MC and 56/56 on the DBQ (This is with a curve being the highest score–Orig was 40pts for MC and 57 for DBQ) I set the curve for DBQ!!! SO HAPPY!!!

Then in 6th period, apparently my choir teacher called my 6th period and asked my teacher if I could audition for Mads/Treble choir after school. And I was like WHAT??? You’re kidding… :)) He wasn’t. So I auditioned and I don’t think that it went well, but he asked for ME to audition! Ah… so happy…

Sorry for my confusing life’s story for today guys.

So, weird day…
I had a track meet today, and it was the most stressful. We were going against really tough athletics schools. I was super nervous. I run the 1500m (93% of a mile), so I knew I had to do really well. I came sixth place (my worst place of the season, I usually come 1st or 2nd), but it was my fastest time of the season, 4:43! Then we when to Chick-Fila, and our bus broke down lol

@apple1893 Were you guys at the Penn Relays? My school’s track team actually attended this weekend.

My school won’t let you take more than like 5-6 APs at once… And that’s only if your counselor really really likes you. Generally, we’re not allowed to take any freshman year, a maximum of 1 sophomore year, and then junior and senior year it’s 4 each.

@annana world is one of the easier AP’s as long as you’re foucsed and don’t procrastinate I’m sure chem and econ are much more challenging conceptually

Hey guys! I’m really paranoid about not getting into the college that I want to go to and I’d like to get your opinions.

The college I wanna go to NYU Stern School of Business.

I did well in 8th grade with mostly A's and A+'s with maybe a B+ (I can't remember, sorry) in all honors classes.

Freshman year I didn't do so well in. I took all honors classes but I got a B+ in AP World History, and Biology Honors, and a B in Geometry Honors. The rest I got A's in.

Now, this year is kind of still the same. I'm expecting a B+ in AP World History, Algebra 2 CCSS Honors, and English Honors (I know, English? My teachers one of the strictest and hardest graders in the whole school and treats us as if we're her AP Language students).

My extracurricular activities are decent, which include member of the Jazz Band (8-now), All-County band (this year), outside of school Jazz Ensemble (9th) and Concert Band (10th), Mathletes (9th), DECA--business competition club-- (9th and 10th) 9th grade I participated in regionals, this year I qualified 4th in the state which allowed me to participate in the international competition, Forensics Speech and Debate club (10th)

NYU is a competitive school, NYU stern is only slightly below Ivy caliber so generally you’ll need a 3.8 unweighted with almost all honors and AP’s and at least a 1450/1600 on the SAT, just work hard from now on to bring those grades up as high as possible but also have some more realistic options

there are always exceptions to this so don’t get your hopes down

OMG MY BIRTHDAY IS NEXT TUESDAY! HAPPY MAY DAY!
