@ak2018 No wasn’t, but what an experience that must’ve been for your team! I have one last meet then I can call it a season. Happy almost Birthday!
@BucketsUCSC thanks so much for the help
hi hi how many of you guys are taking more than 1 ap this year? im only doing ap spanish language right now but next year ill have ap english, apush, ap calc ab, and ap spanish lit. i’m concerned as to whether colleges will think I should have started taking more aps as a soph or if this will be enough as a junior? (as a senior ill be taking honors english, apah, ap calc bc, ap bio, honors molecular genetics, and an individual study in spanish)
@chr1717 I’m taking AP Bio and APUSH and am self-studying AP Psych and AP Euro
SNHC is gonna be something for me tonight. I may or may not have spent all of Friday and Saturday throwing a pity party. Anyone else up for SNHC tonight?
On a completely random and unrelated note, I hate that I’m so bad with names. I swear I’m going to fail my APUSH exam just because of this. I seriously thought Roger Williams was named John Voltaire (John Winthrop + Enlightenment thinker Voltaire?).
Do you think GPA is really important in terms of getting into college? I got straight As throughout middle school, but freshman year I got 2 Bs and my GPA just dropped. I got a B in precalc, but I need to take the exam first to see whether I get an A for final grade. Most schools I’m looking at are high-achieving so I’m really paranoid and nervous as to whether I’ll be able to get in or not.
I got my new track spikes and I’m crying tears of joy.
@droporain GPA is always important no matter the university. If it’s only a few B’s, your GPA shouldn’t be that bad.
@BucketsUCSC Econ is actually one of the easiest APs and chem, while hard for some people, doesn’t give me that much trouble. I think the world MCs are a joke but the essays kill me.
@chr1717 I’m taking 3 APs this year, but that’s just because I did an accelerated middle school program. The majority of underclassmen don’t take more than 1 or 2 APs. Generally, 7-12 APs are fine for more competitive schools and it looks like you’re taking in that range, so as long as you get good grades you’re find.
So I just woke up from the weirdest dream/nightmare and believe me, it was weird.
Within minutes, my school was taken over by a fascist party forcing us to take a test on books we supposedly read. Everyone was in a large room, tightly squeezed together and on our hands and knees. The room was lit with many colors, it looked liked the Northern Lights. Before my school was taken over, I was on the third floor of my school and then I saw a gunman that looked exactly like Mr. T say “Everybody get down on your hands and knees” as I saw my English teacher’s brain splattered against the wall. I ran with all my might to the other side of the third floor, but was then shot by another gunman. I thought I was dead right then and there, but I had actually looked at the back of my arm to see that I’ve been shot with a tranquilizer dart. I then proceed to fall on my face, unconscious.
Supposedly one hour after my tranquilization, I’m in the middle of a room on my hands and knees with lots of other students, and they seemed happy. Everyone seemed generally happy. Then, an announcement came on the school speakers in the main office. The announcement had said that the school had been taken over by fascist party. They had killed all of our teachers and school faculty and are making us take a test on books all of us had read. I assumed our phones were taken away, but then again, finding a signal in our school was not likely anyway. I don’t remember the specific titles of the books, but those books were actually new books currently in our world today. For some reason, everyone was prepared to take the test. I was not that ready, but it didn’t really matter as we were all shouting the answers to the questions. I thought everyone had been tranquilized, as I had seen tranquilizer darts on everyone’s arm. Before the test had started, the leader of the fascist party came up and told us the directions. We had to shout out the answers to the test we were given. If we don’t shout out the answers loud enough, or at all, we are killed. What’s weird is this guy, the leader of the fascist party, looked exactly like President Snow from the Hunger Games, but sounded like he had a British accent. The test started, with the first question up on a large screen, and right of the bat, some people didn’t answer and were all shot dead. This brought out of their happy trance, and into one of fear. We were told to calm down and do what he says, or risk being killed. After those people had been killed, so many people were in shock that they couldn’t answer the questions, or barely speak at all for that matter. They were all killed. Only about 75% of my school remained alive. As the test continued, the fascist party leader announced the first tip three people on the leaderboard with most correct answers. You weren’t killed if you got the answer wrong, you just had to say something. My little brother was on the top of the leaderboard. The fact that he was there, even though he is an 8th grader and will not be attending my school next year, put me into shock. The next question was not a question at all, but a news bulletin about what’s currently happening inside our school. The fascist party leader was furious and went into a fit of rage. But then, as we saw on the screen, we heard explosions. Bombs the size of a computer chip were being spread around the outside world of the school, which ended up killing a lot of the police force that had tried to free us. The fascist leader then laughed with joy, while we cried. The leader then shouted something I couldn’t hear, and shot bullets into the ceiling. Which shut a lot of people up. Then, he turned to me with the most evil grin. He knew I was in shock. As soon as I saw his face, right then and there I knew I was about to die. He started walking towards me as I was screaming, no please don’t. He came to me, grabbed me by the neck and said “wanna say anything”, and I couldn’t. He then shot me in the Achilles tendon and I didn’t scream. I felt the bullet in my foot outside of my dream, but that was just my foot moving and twitching in bed. He asked me again " Wanna say anything? ", I didn’t. I was then shot in the neck and everything went black. Then I woke up, with my confused, dazed, and slightly scared self. I did not make any of this up. I literally woke up two hours ago from this dream. This isn’t the first time I’ve had a dream this morbid. I’ll admit I’m kind of scared to go to school tomorrow. Who knows, I might be a reincarnation of Joan of Arc. :)) But my dreams never happen in real life, or do they. If you wanna hear about my other weird dream, just ask. I’d be happy to share. I feel like I watch way too much of the Hunger Games.
Congrats to Malia Obama on her decision to attend Harvard!
@ak2018 Have you ever thought of writing a book/directing a movie?! I would pay to see/read anything that started out that vividly.
@neptuna Congrats to her! I immediately thought of this video. Lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJGifLjjsaY :))
@Hamlon I tried to back in 3rd grade, but I could never just sit down and write. I tried writing a book I called “The Paranormal Sleuths”, but it just seemed like a ripoff of Scooby Doo. Now it seems more like Supernatural. Uh, lol why can’t I be this creative when writing my essays in school.
I love the video you linked and I loved how those men go to VCU, not that far away from me. I’ve had somewhat bad vibes about VCU, that came from its reputation, but if these successful black men went to VCU, so can I. I’ll definitely consider and look at VCU more closely in the future. This shows that when black people are given good opportunities in life and are encouraged to go get them, and defy the stereotype, they will truly succeed. I think a woman of color, or any woman for that matter, with a degree is very attractive.
@neptuna And a congratulations is in order for Miss. Malia Obama. Lol. I remember when my dad said she and I would be a perfect couple when Obama was first elected. He said the same thing about my little brother and Sasha, Malia’s younger sister. Malia’s like two years older than me and we’re the same height, apparently. Thanks Google :))
@annana the WHAP essays is luck if its something you just reviewed for the comparative and CCOT, then you’re set however if it’s something you don’t really know you’re screwed so i think it’s just about constantly reviewing and having a common idea as well as knowledge of major events during each period and then you’re good for the DBQ once you practice enough you get the hang of it and from there it’s clockwork
@BucketsUCSC exactly. If I’m strong on the topic I can write a killer essay, but most of the time that’s not the case:/ my teacher grades harder than the AP anyway so maybe that will help
thanks @averagebean It’s just so annoying how easily your GPA can go down and how difficult it is to bring it back up. And I do agree that GPA is important, but I was just wondering how easily a college would reject your application by just your GPA, if that makes any sense haha
@neptuna ik!! They have a power family haha… I think she’s taking a gap year first, which is pretty cool
@droporain Yeah she is! I heard a while ago that after the election, they’ve decided to stay in D.C… Kinda cool to have a former president in your neighborhood, technically.
@ak2018 yeah it is! I thought they would go back to Chicago, but it kinda does make sense that they’re staying in DC since Sasha only has about 2 years left… So you live in DC?
@droporain @ak2018 @neptuna Can you even imagine how much is expected from the Malia and Sasha? I would be so miserable omg. Like, old people I don’t even know criticizing the way I dress and calling me terrible things. Have you seen the things people have been saying on Twitter?! There was also this controversy with Old Navy all because they put an interracial couple on one of their posts. It’s the Cheerios thing all over again. If I were Old Navy, I would have put a same-sex interracial couple in my next Tweet just to p*** off the bigots even more.
