Good luck, Americans.
@ak2018 Thank you! I’m glad I joined, this seems very useful
Also does anyone have any study tips? I’m trying a new thing where I take notes in a journal while we’re reviewing and while I’m watching review videos, since just reading out of an AP book doesn’t seem to work? I don’t know if this works either, but it would be helpful if anyone has any tips. How does one study?
@apple1893 No, it sounds like you need to slow down! :)) But seriously, after a day like that, you need to slow down a little bit. Still work hard, but not hard enough that you collapsed. I’d recommend getting some sleep today and take a pain killer or two right before you go to bed. One of the reasons why I had to quit the team was that I was starting to have a lot of back pain. Then, I started to feel these little jolts on my back time to time. They were like just damaged nerves so it was probably just nerve pain. But remember, there is a difference between pushing past your limits and pushing past your breaking point. This one middle school girl in our county didn’t know the difference and now she’s, hopefully, with the angels. She went into cardiac arrest while running the mile during practice and was sent to the hospital where she later died. Not trying to scare you, it was just a cautionary tale. My motto is: Live to breath another day. If you can conquer your goals today, you can conquer them tomorrow as well.
@awesomepolyglot I honestly still can’t believe Kasich is still in this. At this point, I’d honestly rather choose Trump over him. At least Trump doesn’t support Common Core!
@averagebean Thanks, we’re gonna need it. Not that my parents are moving if Trump gets elected or anything, but I’m now intrigued, more than ever, to visit Canada. How is it this time oof year? :))
@droporain You’re welcome. I’d recommend going on YouTube and looking up: Study Tips for High School. I’ve literally spent hours watching videos about study tips and life hacks. It might seem kind of weird, as most of the videos are made by girls, but it didn’t hurt my masculinity at all. :)) They had really great tips! Like this one, where you’re supposed to make flashcards and read them right before you go to bed. There’s also one where you record yourself saying the notes and then play it a few times before the day of the test. There’s also this weird one where if you chew gum while studying and chew the same flavor of gum while doing the test, you’ll remember what you studied. I don’t know the effectiveness of the last one. :)) But YouTube is definitely a great place to start.
Edit: While making flashcards for Spanish or doing math work, I usually listen to classical music on Pandora. Classical music is very calming and sets a good atmosphere.
@ak2018 Thanks!
My day was tiring… I had 2 AP exams and I actually think I did better on the second one lol.
@droporain For the book: I annotated my Barron’s review book with color-coded pen/highlighter for each SPEAR theme (social, political, economic, attaining knowledge, regional; read the book OUT LOUD (so you hear your self and don’t forget you’re reading something/ drifting eyes). Outside: for each time period, I am making a jumbo notecard- colorcoded by SPEAR theme with causation, continuity/change and a jumbo notecard for women throught ages and art through the ages. NOTE: this is for AP Euro but can be adapted for any social science/ science course
@KG5APR Good for you! I actually started reading Coraline in English class and I had a 93% on my Spanish Oral on Families. We got to page 40/160 in Coraline and we expect to finish the book by the middle of the month.
@droporain I second what @ak2018 and @sewin2music said. You remember 10% of what you read and 90% of what you say when studying. Another useful tip would be to try and teach someone about the topic. This someone could even be a pet. It will help with your understanding by having to explain the topic.
@ak2018 Cool! We are supposed to start reading a book of our choice and since I don’t read as much fiction as I would like, I cannot think of a book.
@KG5APR I would definitely suggest Coraline, as it seems like a pretty good book so far! I also do not read as much as I used to. I’m so swamped with homework, I just never have the time during the school year. But during the summer, I’m able to read about 5 novels. I’m currently listening to The Paladin Prophecy: Book 3 on audio book. It’s actually pretty good. I’d also check out the Virginia Readers’ Choice Books Website. They choose ten books a year for teens that are really good. Lol, I just realized I have entire lists of books I planned to read. So many books, so little time. I could post some book titles on here tomorrow.
@ak2018 Cool! Thanks for the suggestions!
@ak2018 thanks for the welcome! i’m obsessed w all things college at the moment but its good to have a place to talk about it that isn’t competitive in the same way my school is. since most of us are aiming for the same high caliber of schools, it’s easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to one another when we talk about testing, admissions, etc.
OMG it took me two months and now I’m able to use the Snapchat filters. All I needed to do was press my face.
@chr1717 I totally agree.
Guys…finding out that Cruz has dropped out has just ruined my day He was the only president I was rooting for.
Trump may be winning primaries but during the real election he’s not going to get any woman or minority to vote for him
I tried explaining to my friend the other day why Trump wasn’t a viable candidate but he just went on and on with linking me to reddit and 4chan threads on why Trump was our only hope against Muslims and their terrorism, and how he didn’t want our country filled with refugees… I understand that people have different opinions and I should respect that but he was so misinformed about everything. It’s really disheartening.
I honestly don’t know who’s worse, trump or cruz
