High School Class of 2018

Also, 5,500TH POST!!!

@ak2018 although it would be fair to say that a lot of schools pride themselves in football, VCU definitely isn’t the only college without one. I know that one of my local colleges, Gonzaga, hasn’t had a football team in years (but they do pride themselves on a high ranked basketball team)

@snowfairy137 Yeah! I’m pretty basketball is what they’re known for anyways.

the bee movie is disgusting

So I just too a practice MAth 1 test for Saturday and I got 35 correct out of 50 which is a 590, and after going through my mistakes I noticed that it could’ve been raised to a 630, had I been extra careful. It makes me so mad how hash the Math 1 curve it. On the Math 2, 35 correct is a 700. I am in utter awe.

@apple1893 I was scoring similarly on Math II, so I decided that I will just skip that subject test on Saturday. I’ll probably take it in November or December. I don’t know what you’re aiming for, but if you aren’t getting what you want, that is always an option.

@apple1893 to be blunt Math 1 is pretty useless the only way i think it would be of any use is if a college requires a math subject test for all majors and you’re going into the humanaties. Seeing your interest in math and thus math related majors and the elite schools you are aiming for i don’t see what purpose it would serve other then for practice or confidence. So don’t stress out about it because you probably won’t even submit the scores

also i wanted to ask everyone what their goal scores on the standardized test SAT or ACT is

I got a 1440 on the PSAT but it’s an easier test I would like to hit 1500 at least on the actual SAT

@BucketsUCSC I want to get a 34 on the ACT and 700+ for subject tests

@BucketsUCSC

SAT Goal: 1400/1600 (Minimum)
ACT: 34
SAT II Math Test: 700 or higher
SAT Chemistry Test: 670 or higher

Well, I’m at the library doing an essay for World History and then a notes outline for Chemistry. I just did a test today in Algebra II on Variations and Curve-Fitting and felt I did pretty well. After that, we re-learned how to do rational functions by hand (algebraically) as in, without using our calculators, which is something you need to know how to do for the non-calculator portion of the SAT. I started my Computer Math Final which I’m pretty sure needs to be finished by Friday. We have to create and correctly run 10 programs in Visual Basic by Friday. I finished one problem today which wasn’t how many I expected to finish, which was three.

Also, our county’s summer reading program officially starts on June 20th. I just spoke with my “manager” a couple of minutes ago, since I’m currently at the library I’m going to be volunteering at this summer, and he told me that I’m getting the shift I choose in the e-mail he sent all of the volunteers. My shift will be from 12pm-3pm on Saturdays and my first day of “work” is June 25th. I’m supposed to work with a partner, however, since my “manager” said that weeknight and Saturday shifts are the hardest to fill, I might not get a partner. If that happens, I’ll just probably read the book I’ll be assigned for AP English Language. I kind of hope I do though, preferably a person who’s good at starting conversations, but won’t interrupt or annoy me all the time.

@ak2018 I just found out that I’ll also be volunteering at the library. I’ll be an early literacy volunteer and help teach preschoolers how to read

@BucketsUCSC
my ACT goal is 34
my bio m subject test goal is 750+ (not sure how realistic this is though, took in may)
my math 2 subject test goal is 770+ (taking it saturday)

My Signature Program Coordinator approved my request to not take AP Human Geography, so now I can take AP Computer Science Principles!!! I’m excited because the best teacher in the school will be teaching it. Also, French 4 won’t be offers next year in class or online because only 3 people signed up for it…so I can take the “most-rigorous” schedule still with no French being offered. I’m so excited to learn Computer science and never have to look at French again!

@nyuhopeful44 Oh cool! I’ll be helping kids sign up for our county’s summer reading program. I’ll also be giving them prizes once they reach their reading goals (once they read a certain number of books). This is a program for infants through 12th graders, so parents are allowed to read to their kids. I’ll mainly just be sitting behind a desk, stamping reading passports for kids and giving them prizes. It warms my heart to see the smile on the little kids’ faces once they found out they earned a prize for their reading. :smiley: :(( I’m all like, “Congratulations, you just won a PRIZE!!!”, which seems to brighten up their faces and their day.

I actually was talking with my “manager” who I address as Mr., and he said they are no longer giving out “coupons of the week” like they have done in the past. And with that, I suspect that there will be a slight decrease in program participation. As I’ve seen over the last few years I’ve been volunteering, some parents actually get there children to read books to have a love of reading instilled into them, hopefully for life, some parents just make their children read for the prizes, and other parents don’t make their children read at all and mainly use them as a way to get “coupons of the week”. Coupons of the Week were coupons that the children would get once a week, once they sign up for the program, every week during the summer. All they would have to do is come to the Summer Reading Volunteers desk and check-in with us, the volunteers, and claim their coupons. The coupons are from local businesses. I remember the one rule that was put in bold, black letters right next to the desk which said: Children must be present at the desk in order to receive coupons of the week and/or prizes. Meaning the kids have to be there as this is a program for kids, not adults. I can not tell you how many times I’ve entered into our database, that we use to keep track of how many prizes and coupons of the week they’ve received, that someone had come to get their coupon of the week, yet have not logged in any books. I know some don’t know how, even though we have a website for them to log all of their books in over the summer, but some do and just want the free coupons/prizes. I’m just like, “This program is for reading and finding a love for it, not to just get free prizes and coupons.” It just irks me as someone who gained a love for reading through these types of programs as a kid, and I still participate in them, since teens are still participating in the program. I guess you could say that’s why I’m volunteering in this program. My love of reading was gained through it, so now I’m helping other kids gain that same love for reading!

TERRIBLY LONG RANT OVER! :))

@ak2018 DUDE a 34 ACT is a 1520-1540 new SAT converted you must be a lot better on the ACT then

@BucketsUCSC The ACT is usually considered slightly easier than the SAT. Especially with the new SAT out. A lot of people are just switching to the ACT all together to avoid this whole New SAT conversion chart mess all together.

Classs of 2018 Taking the ACT in 10 days tryna get that perfect!!! (got 35 last time)
