High School Class of 2018

@JadedJunior Good luck! I think the medicine I take helps a bit, hopefully you can find something that works for you.

So… I got the last of my grades for my finals, and the results are quite mixed. I got a 49 in Algebra II, 78 in Honors Bio, and 99 in Honors Latin II. The latter two are fine, but that math grade is something else. I’ve never done well on math midterms/finals, but this is a whole new low. :stuck_out_tongue:

Today was my last day of learning!!! Next week is finals and then I’m done with Sophomore year!!! I took my French Speaking test today. I got a 9/10 so I’m happy  it was the last Frenchh spending test I will ever do for he rest of my life which is such a relief. I also finalized my schedule today for next year. It took some work but here it is:
I have a block schedule

  1. AP Calc AB/BC (combined everyday)
  2. AP Lang and Comp
  3. AP Physics 1
  4. H World History
  5. H Contemporary Voices / H Comp Sci Java
  6. Dance for Athletes / Strength and Conditioning
  7. AP Study Hall (required with 4 APs)

I wish I could’ve taken one more AP, but I would’ve drowned in homework with 4 AP classes and a varsity sport every season.

@DaEmmJay23 Cool! I still have one more year of Spanish, though. I have my Spanish speaking test on Monday. I kind of wish we had a study hall, but at the same time, I don’t. At Virginia Tech, taking a study hall class is highly unrecommended. They want to see you challenge yourself. They’ll understand if your school made you do it, but if they didn’t, they wouldn’t probably want to see it. I’d also love taking a zero-hour class, but our county would never allow us to.

I’ve also decided, because I miss being on a sports team so much, that’ll try and see if I’ll be able to do cross country this fall. I do plan to still do a lot of clubs, but I’ll decide when I get there. I’m actually kind of excited! I knew I couldn’t keep myself off the track for good! I’m pretty sure practice starts on August 16th, right after summer school ends.

Also, AP tests scores, according to https://apscore.collegeboard.org/scores, will be released in waves starting JULY 5TH. @ak2018 yeah I kinda wish I didn’t have to take a study hall, but at the same time I don’t see how I could have a social life without one. I would literally be drowned in homework without one.

@DaEmmJay23 yeah, you’ll be thankful for the study hall later in the year lol

Is it really that common for people to skip a study hall? At my school, only about 20% (guessing) of people take 7 classes. Even the really high-achieving kids take a study hall most years, but some don’t have one as freshmen and sophomores.

@awesomepolyglot my school only has 6 periods so most people can’t even graduate if they take a study hall
Speaking of this, I’ve noticed that most people on CC take 7-8 classes a year, so is this 6- period schedule thing unusual?

@JadedJunior My school has a 6 period schedule with an option to take a 7th class (from like 6 options) an hour before school starts.

@JadedJunior my school has 6 periods with an optional zero hour too

@Ak2018 so excited, i get to see my scores first this year (the west coast was last last year)

@ak2018 sliding in here to say you can see your scores on the first day if you use VPN. It’s legal AFAIK (although arguably sketchy) bc collegeboard lets you see your scores based on your location at the time they are released as opposed to where you took the exam.

Yeah, I used a VPN last year to view my scores a day earlier :o

Terrible News: Christina Grimmie, who was a winner on The Voice, has been shot dead, her killer then committing suicide. My deepest condolences to her family members! :((

@gormar099 @LosingCrayon what is vpn?

@JadedJunior @awesomepolyglot @singingwriting @snowfairy137 I’m required to take 7 classes (state law makes us have a full day) and also opted for a zero hour to take AP Comp Sci. This year was…interesting. I’m planning to take 8 classes again next year too. I’ve never heard of a school having 6 classes a day as the norm. Maybe it’s a regional thing? Lol, if I only had 6 classes, I would not be graduating on time. How do you get in all of your required electives?! Study hall didn’t exist at my school until the full-day law was passed. There are a lot of Juniors and Seniors who would have gotten away with just 4-6 classes a day (or less w/ dual credit and summer school) if they had been born a year or two earlier. I was going to be that one Senior who was still taking a full course load instead of leaving after lunch, but now everyone gets to stay in Hell a little longer!
@gormar099 @LosingCrayon Last year, I was so paranoid I had a dream about the FBI busting my doors down and wiping my mind like in Men in Black. Lol. Good times.
@ak2018 Murder-suicides make me so mad. Like, if you want to end yourself don’t take someone down who didn’t want to go with you. Face the jury like an adult instead of taking the easy way out. On another note did you hear about the 20-something year old who just got released from prison for a murder he didn’t do? He got arrested at 14 and spent all of his teenage years in jail. My heart was feeling so many things when he said all he wanted to do was learn how to drive and be normal again. The worst thing is that the real murderer confessed after this kid was arrested. They just let this man rot in jail for 9 years instead of freeing him. I honestly think kids shouldn’t be in jail in the first place. It just messes up your mind for life. They should open up more rehabilitative centers instead. A night in jail would affect me forever, but a decade?! Can’t even imagine.

In my school it’s normal to have seven classes, but only six can be majors unless you skip lunch

@nyuhopeful44 Instead of connecting directly with a website’s server, you instead connect to the VPN’s server which acts like a disguise. It then connects to the website for you. Wherever that VPN’s server is, that’s where the website thinks you are located.
@reid799 What are “majors” at your school?.

@Hamlon What’s worse is she was shot as she was signing autographs after her concert in Orlando, Florida. As she was signing autographs, a man with two guns walked in and shot up the place. Christina’s brother was able to tackle the gunman to the ground, but not before Christina took a bullet. She was then taken to the hospital and died a few hours later.

I would’ve, or at least, hoped I would’ve been able to do the same thing Christina’s brother did if there was gunman who was shooting up the place. I know if any of my family members were shot you’d have to put me in a mental home for at least a couple of months, maybe years. I especially pray for Christina’s brother.

@ak2018 I was looking at her facebook and she posted this right before she died:
www. facebook. com /christinagrimmie/photos/pb.113888165320453.-2207520000.1465652786./1142768585765734/?type=3&theater
Wherever she is now, I hope she’s okay. My greatest fear has always been losing a sibling/being alone. I’d rather die first. Her brother must be in so much pain.

@Hamlon yeah, at my school, you only sign up for six classes initially, and you can add a seventh later on. In TN, there are 22 credits required to graduate, so 24 classes in high school will have you graduate on time. The requirements are:
4 years English
4 years math; Algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and an additional math class
3 credits science
3 credits history; 1 credit USH, 0.5 credit economics, 0.5 credit government, 1 credit world history and geography (World History, Honors World History, AP Human Geography, AP World History, or AP Euro)
2 years of one foreign language
1 credit fine or performing arts
1 credit Lifetime Wellness
0.5 credit PE 2 or equivalent (can be waived by doing a sport)
0.5 credit Personal Finance
3 credits elective focus (Science & Math, Humanities, JROTC, or AP/IB (grad requirements at this level can count for this focus))

However, the grad requirements alone won’t be adequate to get into most OOS colleges. If you take 4 years of science and 3-4 years of a language, you may have trouble fitting those in without a study hall, and a college preparatory path makes it almost impossible to take electives without multiple years with a study hall.
