@JadedJunior I have ADHD, but I do take medicine for it so hopefully I will be able to curb my inattention issues. :s Two of the classes are easy electives, so I think it will be okay. Its neat that you have everyone together at lunch, we have four different periods. I didn’t have any of my friends in my lunch period this year, it sucked.
@BucketsUCSC I think I understand where you are coming from. I’m female, but I also treat rape accusations warily because of the unfortunate possibility that the woman could be making a false claim. However, in this particular case, the woman was found by two men unrelated to either party. They had no reason to lie about what they saw. If the man was cognizant enough to respond to them and run away, he has no excuse for what he did.
@reidd799 I’m white too, and sometimes I feel people go to far with the claims of privilege, but I think it is pretty undeniable that there was some racial and class bias in this case. The man in question is white and goes to a great school under a sports scholarship. He had all the chances he could ever need to have a good life, but he stupidly threw it away. That’s his fault, and he should be punished accordingly. Of course there are plenty of white men who would not do anything like this- I don’t believe anyone on this thread has suggested otherwise.
I had my English final today. I don’t think I’ll feel finished with school until all of my final grades are in, though. I can’t believe I’m going to be an upperclassman. AHHH :-S
Also, I’m going to my brother’s high school graduation today! I can’t believe it. Do any of you have siblings that are going to graduate soon?
Sorry for disturbing in the ongoing conversation,
But I had a question regarding my junior year schedule (I am going to graduate in 2018)
My schedule so far looks like
AP US History
AP Spanish 4
AP English
AP Computer Science
Pre AP/ honors Pre Calculus
Pre- AP/ honors Physics
AP Psychology (One semester)
PE (One Semester)
Should I drop AP Psychology and PE (which I need to finish the required credit of still) and take a regulars class called Internetworking, which networking through the Cisco Networking Academy Program and prepares students for industry standard certifications. Topics include LANs, the OSI model, addressing, and routing. Students who successfully complete this course of the program are eligible to earn Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) certification.
I plan on pursuing Engineering or something medical related in the future. I am ready to take this regulars Internetworking class if it only has some actual use in college, etc. I do not think I will be using Psychology later on, I do not plan on becoming a Psychologist, but the class is very interesting and easy based on what I have heard. Should I drop AP Psych and PE to easy up my schedule for PSAT, Sat , and AC and the other classes and take Internnetworking, which might be useful for engineering but I am not sure if it is?
@wildguy57 No reason to say sorry. That’s what this thread is for. If it interests you, I’d go for it! Can you take PE online or during Summer school? I actually wish my school offered that class. I visited Cisco once on a school trip and the projects we were allowed to see were amazing!
@wildguy57 I am doing 4 APs and an enriched next year but I think it all depends on if you think you can handle the work load. I’ve heard AP Psych is a lot of fun and I’m doing it next year as well.
Also has anyone else heard about the AP International Diploma? It’s like by the college board and I was thinking of trying to do it. Here’s the link I found http://international.collegeboard.org/programs/apid
@Hamlon But white privilege is mentioned in a negative light. It’s almost as if I have to apologize for who I am and repent for years of history I had nothing to do with. As if I I’m given everything and don’t understand what it’s like to work for anything. The connotation of privilege is inherently negative, why would I not infer negative feelings from it? Would I not be judged harshly for saying I was proud to be a white male? Also the judicial system is not racist, judges can carry biases. They are to blame, no where in law text does it state sentencing for different races. Reminder that judges are elected and or nominated by bi-partisan committees. Also, these micro-agreessions are just that. Micro. The truth is people can suck and getting hung up on every insulting comment holds people back. I have been told I better get a good job and make money or no women would want me. Bigger picture, these comments shouldn’t have any effect on someone’s life. To answer your question, I saw a conversation how people thought it was horrible that this is what a rapist can get away with cause he is white and male. How white males have so much power and privilege. This was not a conversation just about rape as you have said before. Personally I don’t like to be grouped with rapists. Being white and male doesn’t not make me want to oppress people. We all have issues, what good is it to say my issues are worse than yours. Minorities throughout the history of the U.S. have faced systematic discrimination. Minorities today still face discrimination, but I don’t feel so systematically. I believe if people live their lives always concerning the role of race in their everyday interactions it divides them, rather then tearing down barriers. As a society we can probably never see past race, but towards individual success it should be of absolutely no consequence in comparison to talent or economic opportunity.
@LeopardFire I completely agree the judge should be under immerse scrutiny and not supported for another term.
@Cookiesandcreme You don’t believe people have misjudged feelings of superiority or inferiority? Isn’t that what racism is all about? I feel some people may mistakenly base their whole feelings on how they should feel because how their skin looks. Race IS impossible to ignore in this case. The judges decision was based on wealth and race. This country was created by white men but I see that as no reason why anyone could not find success or happiness. The complex I mentioned IS real in many cases because as I have stated, people concern too much with their race and others. Identifying such large groups of people under a single identifier will undoubtedly lead to problems.
@wildguy57 I am taking 4 AP classes next year along with French 3 and Treble choir. If you think that you can handle 5 AP’s, go for it! But you also have to weigh in the time that it takes to do extra curricular activities / clubs/ studying for SAT and ACT/ not just studying all year. Colleges want to see a well rounded student any I think that its important to make use of high school to be just a teenager.
@singingwriting I’ve heard of AP International Diploma! However, I haven’t heard colleges say too much about it, so I’m not sure if it’s worth it. If your schedule sets you on track though, go for it!!
@wildguy57 Engineering has tons of industry related jobs and that certificate would probably help with getting minimum wage jobs (if you want to do that to pay for college). If you can do PE over the summer or something I would go with that. @BucketsUCSC I try to give accused rapists the benefit of the doubt but the evidence in this case was overwhelming. There were two direct witnesses and obvious signs of battery on the victim, and Turner changed his story at least three times which is a surefire sign of lying.
@LeopardFire I’ve never been diagnosed with ADHD but I’m going to see a specialist in a few weeks to get to the bottom of my focus problems. Hopefully they can help me improve on it.
@wildguy57 No worries, we’re just kind of in the middle of a heated argument right now. I’m also doing AP English Language and Pre-Calculus. 2-4 APs are really good and show that you’re definitely challenging yourself. In my county in Virginia, there is a IT program at two schools, so I know what kinds of classes those are. As I am also an aspiring mechanical engineer myself, and, in all honesty, I think it would be a lot better to take the Internetworking class as you do plan to major in engineering. Not only would it show colleges your interest in Engineering, but the class should also help you figure out if you truly want to pursue engineering or not,or at least give you a good idea of what type of engineer you do, or do not want to be. Also, getting that Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) certification would look really good too. Technically speaking, I.T., or Information Technology, the subject area where your Internetworking class would fall under, is not considered a branch of true engineering. The branches include mechanical, civil, electrical, bio, etc,. I do think that if you can fit AP Psychology into your schedule, do it. I plan to take it senior year and have heard it really is an interesting class. Overall, I’d say take the class as it should definitely be useful to you in college to at least figure out if you want to potentially major in Information Technology. If you end up liking the class, you could end up continuing the program. I’m also going to be in a PE class this summer in summer school which will, hopefully, be my last PE class ever!
Also, my day went pretty well. I had a free period and I just studied for Semester 2 Vocabulary Exam for English class. I feel I did pretty well, but if I hadn’t checked my answers, I would’ve messed up big time. There were 110 questions, but the questions were all multiple choice and asked us for the correct spelling of each of the 60 vocabulary words we learned this semester, the correct part of speech, and the correct definition. Then the last few questions were a definition review of our last two sets of 10 vocabulary words. I’ll put up all of the words later. After the test, we did this really fun brain puzzle where one of our administrators has been poisoned and killed, an administrator he must really hate, and one of the four men in the room, my English teacher and three other teachers had done. They were all given different professions and you had to figure out which teacher did it. I’ll show you guys the puzzle later. We prepared for Spanish Oral Exam, that we have next class in Spanish class today and in Algebra II, we practiced for a quiz for half the class and took the quiz for the other half. It was so hard that I didn’t finish and I spent so much time on certain questions were actually really simple. The quiz was on Rational Functions and I handed it in to my teacher and she said I can do as much as I can during the first 10 minutes of next class. I honestly don’t really care that much as I currently have a 97 in the class, the most it could go down is a 93.
My teachers are giving us our last tests of the year this week, and we will be preparing for finals next week. I have a Chemistry and Precalculus test tomorrow, as well as an English essay Wish me luck! I’m gonna need it…
@sona7662 I got a 95 on my Spanish Writing Final and I’m taking my Spanish Speaking test, or oral, on Monday. Good luck with your tests. I have all of the rest of my finals next week then I’m done for the year.
