My school requires:
220 credits (5 credites=1 semester of a class)
4 years of English
3 years of Social Studies (1 year of world history; 1 year of US History; Government/economics-1 semester of each)
1 semester of Health
2 years of Math (1 year must be Algebra) ???
2 years of Science (1 year of biological science and 1 year of physical science)
2 years of Physical Education
1 year of a Foreign Language OR Visual art
75 credits of electives( can be from above categories and/or ASB, TA, food, etc)
WHY ARE OUR STEM REQUIREMENTS SO LOW??? If a student just completed these requirements they would not get into any GOOD college in the area…
4 English credits
4 Math credits (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and another math)
3 Science credits (Physical Science, Biology, and an “Advanced Science” such as Physics or Chemistry)
3 Social Studies credits (U.S. History, U.S. Government, and an elective)
1 PE/Health credit
1 Financial Literacy credit (I took a class called Career Choices for this)
1 Fine Arts credit
1 Technology credit
@sewin2music Only two years of math? That’s wild. Do you know if your school’s counselors let people know how important it is to take more than two years if they’re going to college?
4 Years of English (With required reading and writing SOLS in the 11th grade that you must pass in order to graduate)
4 Years of Math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and another math classes) (Pass at least 2/3 Math SOLs) *Classes that include math SOL are Algebra I and II, and Geometry
4 Years of Science (Must take at least 2/3 SOL-included science and must pass the SOLs in at least 2/3 of those classes and any other Science classes)(Electives, like Biology II or DNA and Biotechnology, count as non-SOL Science classes and could be used to fulfil the requirement) (SOL classes include Biology, Chemistry, and Earth Science)(Even though the only non-AP Physics class is called SOL-Based Physics, there is no SOL, but there is a teacher-made final exam)
4 Years of History and Social Science (Must take and pass all 4 SOL classes and pass at least 2/4 of them)(SOL classes include World History I and II, U.S. and Virginia History, and U.S. and Virginia Government)
3 Years of a Foreign Language (Either 3 years of one language or two years of two different languages)
2 Years of Health and PR
1 Year of Economics and Personal Finance
1 Year of Fine Arts or Career and Technology Elective
3 Years of General Electives (Two of Which be sequential, meaning you’re allowed to take Art I and Theater I since they are both within the realm of art)
@neptuna The counselors do make sure everyone knows the importance of math. They even push for 3+ years of Foreign language to get into UC/ private universities. I’m not really sure why our requirements are so low because I’m actually in a pretty good district.
I was so shocked when I heard the news this morning… I feel like something like this happens every week now…
I think I need 26 credits with 7 for math/science, 3.5 for English, 3.5 social studies, and 2 foreign language. Major classes are anything that meets everyday, I took stat this year and econ next. Other examples are art, business, or engineering classes.
The worst thing about this shooting is knowing nothing will change. These lawmakers already made it clear that they don’t support the lgbt community. If nothing was done after Sandy Hook, nothing will be done after this. I love how these lawmakers have been saying that gay people need to die and that we’ll burn in hell, but today they send fake prayers. You gotta love hypocrisy. When people say racism, sexism, and homophobia don’t exist anymore, all I have to do is name 3 tragic events that have happened within the last year. Exactly one year after Charleston, and nothing has been done. A little over half a year after Planned Parenthood and nothing has changed. Tell your parents to go out and do research on representatives though. All of them are up for re-election this year. That’s all we can really do.
@snowfairy137 I played in the orchestra for graduation yesterday. Pomp and Circumstance repeated the same 4 notes for violas that it became a running joke in our section.
@Kelvin82 I’m a first violin this year, so I got the melody which although not exciting, wasn’t too bad. Last year I was a second violin and we like repeated the same thing over and over for the whole song, so I feel your pain.
Since I know school is out for most of you, for me school ends this Friday, I thought it would be really cool to do School Confessions. So basically we right this we’ve learned this year about our schools, that we didn’t really know last year. I’ll start.
List of Confessions
The People
Going to my school has given me the new perspective I had wanted. I had gone to my school to get away from the area I live in and not go to school there. But I had found out so many things. My school contains majorly white students with about 46% of students who are not white. I go to a school where wearing Sperrys, an Abercrombie and Fitch button-down shirt or Polo, and khaki shorts/pants are the "unofficial" school uniforms, meaning everyone who wants to fit in at my school wears them. I go to a school where about 30% of the students self-claim themselves to be "rednecks" and are proud of it. And in all honesty, I've learned more about the other 50% of America in one year than I ever have in my entire life. It's so weird, going to this school. It feels like I'm being brainwashed with a mix of liberal and conservative views. This year, I did things I never thought I'd ever do. I made friends with rednecks, which I found out that most are pretty nice once you understand and get to them. It feels so weird, going to a school where everything is so opposite of my middle school.
The Classrooms
Katy Perry said it best. "Cause you're hot and you're cold." Hot sometimes, freezing the other times. That's what happens when your entire county's temperature is controlled by a office far away.
The Bathrooms
They are digusting as HELL and I HATE GOING ON A WILD-GOOSE CHASE ON ALL THREE FLOORS JUST TO FIND SOME GOD DAMN TOILET PAPER! Like seriously, there are people in my school who are complete assholes and waste toilet paper. Like, ugh, seriously. I literally had to bring my own toilet paper from home. And it doesn’t stop there. Someone in our school actually took a huge crap in one of the third-floor bahrooms and COMPLETELY MISSED THE TOILET! There was a huge crap lying right on the floor. I’m so sorry for our custodians and janitors. They deserve TRIPLE of what they earn now!
In case anyone cares, @AP_Trevor on twitter has been tweeting (and will continue to) score distributions of AP Exams, so far for Calc BC 5: 48.4%, 4: 15.5%, 3: 17.6%, 2: 5.9%, 1: 12.6%. For AB 5: 24.4%, 4: 17.4%, 3: 17.6%, 4: 9.7%, 1: 30.9%. Micro and Macro distributions are also up.
@ak2018 Wow, only 56% white? My high school is like 70% white. Its pretty bad. In general, we’re liberal though, not rednecks. Its kind of a problem of a lack of diversity in general in my area, my city is over 80% white… I remember going to DC and being surprised at how many black people there were. It wasn’t like a racist thing, I was just like, wow, I didn’t realize how white my area is till I saw somewhere else. It’s kind of funny though, even most of the people of non-white ethnicities act like stereotypical upper middle class white people. Today in orchestra, I was like “god, we’re so white,” and my Asian friend was like “same.”
(I’m not trying to offend anyone, I just thought it was interesting how diversity and geography and stuff impacts point of view)
