@ak2018 My school is pretty evenly divided. 30 percent Black, 30 percent Hispanic, 23 percent caucasian, 15 percent Asian, and the rest Mixed/Other. It’s really interesting to hear so many different languages walking down the hallway.
Just calculated that I’ll need a 59% on my engineering final, a 81% on my biology final, and a 77% on my Spanish final to maintain all As. Of course I’ll try to do better than that, but its nice to know I have some breathing room.
@snowfairy137 You’re still in school!!! Do you guys start school late in the Fall? Also, at the semi-beginning of graduation we played time to say goodbye with some of the Senior choir members and left like 5 seconds after. I later found out that the ceremony was like 2 hours long. I-)
@gormar099 I will be so surprised if the APCS score distributions resemble the previous year’s. I know they try to account for difficulty changes, but the frqs were so weird this year. Everyone I know said it caught them by surprise and a couple people gave up (and slept) after reading the first question!
@hamlon my high school starts around labor day weekend, so late August/early September. Next year though, I’m taking college classes and those start in late September, so I’ll have a really long summer! School gets out on Thursday, so that’s exciting.
Also, I was able to get through and write decent answers for all of the APCS FRQs so hopefully that reflects in my score :D.
Oh, and we had to come before the doors opened at graduation to do a sound check, so we we’re there like an hour early, and we had to stay through the whole graduation. Plus, they made us ride the bus from school to the Arena where graduation was, and back again. In total, it took up like 4 and a half hours of my Sunday DX.
It’s been a long time, wow. Hi.
But anyway, I’m super stressed for finals. For those that finished, LUCKY YOU. Enjoy your summer!
@averagebean @snowfairy137 You both will do fine on finals! I wish you luck!
Is anyone going to take the Physics subject test next year? I remember having an awesome time during that class, but I haven’t touched physics since Freshman year and won’t take another class until 12th. I was going through the practice problems and still had the easiest time with Physics though. I would take Bio, but I want to keep my options open since it doesn’t fulfill testing requirements for all majors. In addition to Physics, I want to take World History and Math 2. I want to get all of my testing out of the way, so that I can focus on essays (and retakes) Senior year. When do people usually take SAT IIs? I’m going to be using fee waivers, so I want to be completely sure of which tests I’m taking so that I have 2 chances for each subject.
@snowfairy137 Yeah, I said the same thing about my school. I have never seen so many white people in my life! I swear, it’s still so weird to me today. I went to a middle school wear about 60% of the students were black. And you definitely didn’t offend me, that’s for sure.
@Hamlon Yeah that’s kind of how my middle school was. It’s kind of weird because I went from wearing NIKES to Sperrys in just a couple months.
I’m also still in school. Technically, I didn’t have to show up today. Yesterday, I was given part of my English exam, in which our teacher said to annotate all of the stories on the packet he gave us. I also took my Spanish Speaking Test, or Oral, and got a 91, an A.
I wasn’t even that nervous.
@snowfairy137 @Hamlon Our school’s graduation took place at GMU on Saturday. Our school has been holding graduation there for a while.
@averagebean I’ve lowkey been wondering where you went. What have you been doing? Do you know what you got on your finals?
Oh and hey @apple1893 How’d those finals go?
@Hamlon (Sorry for tagging you again!) I’m not planning to take the SAT II Physics Test, but I am taking both the Chemistry and Math Level 2 tests next year. I would say to review Physics before you take the test. Maybe look at what’s on the test and take a practice test given by the SAT Physics page. You might have already gone here, but here is the SAT II Physics page: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1566577-high-school-class-of-2018-p384.html
Also, here’s what to expect on the test:
Anticipated Skills
Skills - Approximate % of Test
Fundamental concepts & knowledge - 12%-20%
Single-concept problem - 48%-64%
Multiple-concept problem - 20%-35%
•Ability to recall and understand the major concepts of physics and to apply these physical principles to solve specific problems
•Understanding of simple algebraic, trigonometric and graphical relationships, and the concepts of ratio and proportion, and how to apply these to physics problems
•Familiarity with the metric system of units
•Ability to apply laboratory skills in the context of the physics content covered on the test
I, too, want to to get all of my testing out of the way. I’m also taking the SAT and ACT next year too. I’ll also plan or at least start figuring out what to do for my essays in the summer of 2017. Also, most people take the tests in September and October, or May and June after or before their SATs and ACTs.
Also, you will not be allowed to use a calculator. There are 75 multiple choice questions and you’ll have an hour to do them.
@ak2018 I’m not gonna lie… My finals were rough! I’ll let you know my scores once they upload my grades.
@Hamlon I want to take the Physics subject test because thew curve is super delightful! Though the sad thing is that, our school wont let me take physics until Senior Year! Do you think it is possible for me to self-study it?
@applw1893 It is definitely possible to self-study for the SAT II Physics Test. If you practice the test they have on the website, see what you have to study, it can be done.
@apple1893 I also plan to do Physics senior year. I’m still thinking about doing AP or Regular.
@apple1893 I’d go for it, but there’s so much material you have to understand and formulas to memorize. Physics is pretty straight forward and easy to understand because every topic can be visualized using a real-world example. Do you already have Chemistry? Even though Chemistry’s curve isn’t as high, I think it’s possible to do really well if you are well prepared. I’m would’ve probably done Chem if I wasn’t limited bc of my weird science sequence (Physics, Bio,Chem) and the fact that I don’t want to study too much during the school year.
@Hamlon I am taking AP Phsyics and I’m gonna take the physics subject test next spring along with World History and Math Level 2
@DaEmmJay23 Yay, we’re twinning! My only worry is getting my World score high enough the first time around. They only offer it twice a year, which sucks. I’d only have one chance to take it in time for EA/ED. Maybe I should switch to US?
Does anyone know about what time the SAT subject test scores come out tomorrow? I took the US history subject est and I’m really nervous on what I got on it
@Hamlon The curve for SAT world is really strong, and if you took AP world then you should be fine for 750+. Depending on the test, it is -14 to -18 for an 800.
Also, since I’m taking AP physics next year, I’ll probably be taking that subject test, along with either math 1 or 2
is the sat subject test of any use anyways?
I mean I know its useful for the top selective colleges otherwise colleges wont ask for it… right?
