And are any of you guys having any difficulty in getting a job. Everywhere I apply, no one calls back.
@wildguy57 Purely using Khan Academy. It’s such a relief! I don’t know how I would have studied without it since I can’t afford prep and will miss the PSAT “camp” my school is doing during the Summer for potential NMFs. I applied for a job months ago and no one called me back or emailed me. Super frustrating!!!
Anyone have experience with JHU CTY’s online programs? I was going to take honors chemistry w/ them over the next 2 months. Applying for financial aid, so that should make it affordable for me. I really don’t want to waste money on a watered down course w/ terrible material.
@wildguy57 Actually, the SAT no longer has a required essay component. It is optional and is honestly considered, by most schools, not necessary to do. The only benefit of doing the essay is having your work proofread by people who are trained to go over essays.
I’ve decided that, in all honesty, I don’t see why not study for both. I mean, if the tests are pretty similar, then it will just be extra studying, which isn’t a bad thing. I’ve decided I’ll study the PSAT for the first half of summer, the SAT the second half of the summer, and the ACT all through the summer. I would take one practice test every 7 days, either an ACT or SAT. I’ve also decided to try and do 1 - 1/2 hours of both SAT and ACT prep a week. So a total of 3 hours of prep per week.
@wildguy57 @Hamlon I kid you not, I was literally offered a job by one of my very good friends literally 2 hours ago. So when I was walking home from the library yesterday, I happened to run into him. He said he wanted my help for something math-related and then he asked what I wanted to do in college. I said Engineering and he said good and to come over to his house the next day, today. So I came over today, once I got back from the library, and he tells me his entire story. His parents are planning to move to Bolivia in 3 years and he plans to live on his own until he decides when he’ll join the military. He plans to have their house all to himself and maintain with the help of his parents. He has a little brother who I’m pretty sure will probably go to Bolivia as well. So anyways, my friend, with the help of his dad, is planning to start a company where they work to repair houses and interior design. His dad gave him a large investment and is on board with the idea and says that he can “hire” anyone of his friends be willing to work. They’d first start to work on their house to see if they can manage the work before officially start the company, but they’ve already started some good home improvements, so they’ve got the hang of it. He asked one other person, who’s already on board. I, unfortunately, had to decline as my parents had told me, prior to this, that they don’t want me to get a job as my main priority should be my schoolwork and that if I want a job, I’d have to wait until I’m 18. I didn’t argue, and found it fair, as they are the ones who are going to pay off most of my college tuition so I can graduate almost debt-free, with the help of scholarships. I honestly think that I should take the job, but do it for free. This would give me a lot of experience into the world of civil engineering and architecture.
Omg, Donald Trump is in my city. I’m surprised half of Oakcliffe hasn’t shot him up yet like JFK was when he came to Dallas. I told my mom I wanted to protest outside, but she just gave me the dirtiest look and shut the blinds…He’s not even in our part of the Dallas area. Oh, one more thing…F*** Donald Trump for using the Orlando shooting to further his campaign. Doesn’t he know he’s a shapeshifting lizard?! I hope someone hacks into the traffic signs again today just because it’s so hilarious. :)) If DPD handles protesting like they have in the past, this is going to be interesting…How do you “forget” to annually train your officers in rioting for 4+ years? Most of them were just given a powerpoint to “look” over just last week. #PrayforDallas
@wildguy57 I’m probably just going to use Khan Academy, and the practice test thing they hand out in school. At least, our school handed it out, I don’t know if all schools do.
As for jobs, I personally haven’t done anything yet, but my sister picked up an application at the local pet store today. I want to work at a dry cleaners, there are two within walking distance of my house that both hire frequently. I’ve been told its easy, but I’m still scared just ask for an application… :-S
I’ve been out of school since the 10th. Its nice, but I feel so lazy. I’ve woken up past 12 PM nearly every day, and basically just play video games. I really do need a job, without school my life lacks structure. I could start on my summer HW, but lets be real I’m probably not going to start on it until a week before school starts.
@LeopardFire lol I have also been waking up past 12 too.
@Hamlon lol do you live in Dallas Texas too? Small world I guess…
Do colleges give internships more importance to compared to jobs?
@wildguy57 I’m pretty sure internships, before college, are very notable, especially of they are in the field you plan to major in. Jobs are definitely good though. An internships will more likely give you experience on how to do a job that is very practical, meaning very hands-on, while a job gives you the ability to find out how you should act in a workplace and in front of customers. Do you get along with your co-workers? Are the customers satisfied with your work ethic, service, and overall attitude you’re displaying?
I got out of school June 4th, but from 6/13-7/8 I’m in summer school PE. In California. In soon to be 109 degree weather. yay. By the time school lets out, I so tired so I just waste time on youtube… I need to get my summer homework done… :(( :(( :((
@sewin2music Same! I will likely be working out in the hot, mild bi-polar cesspool that is Northern Virginia. I’ll be having Health and PE 2 from 06/27 to 08/05. I honestly our teacher is not hard on us. I won’t know who he or she is until the first day of class. I’m probably going to have homework, but as it is a PE class, it won’t be that much. I’d personally rather workout in the gym, where there’s AC.
ANY SWIMMERS???!!! I totally forgot to get new goggles for swim tomorrow because my old ones are too small. I wear contacts and I’m really worried that I will loose a contact while swimming. Should I take them out or try swimming with my eyes closed!?! PLEASE HELP!!
@sewin2music Oh my gosh, do NOT swim with your contacts please. Take them out. Your coach should have extra goggles with him/her. Otherwise, ask someone for theirs if your event is at a different time from theirs.
@neptuna I know…and you totally should!
@ak2018 NHS is a joke at my school. It’s the least active out of all community service clubs (others are Key, Interact–connected to Rotary, and LEO–connected to Lions) Key is $14 at my school…I could not fathom paying that price for a community service club, even though they are the most active, and I love their mission to help children. I mean, what wrong have children done? I really wish the unauthentic volunteers would go through that thought process you described…
P.S. Supposedly, the PSAT is an easier test than the SAT…I don’t know for a fact though
I’ve also decided, after looking through the Khan Academy website, that it is better to just study for the SAT as it should prepare you for the PSAT as well. Which means I need to change my schedule around a little bit.
I’m starting out my preparation on Khan Academy, but on the Reading/Writing section. Boy, do I need help on that or what!
@apple1893 Same with me, but with the Math Section. Trying to re-understand Geometry is going to be the death of me! :((
@ak2018 I swear, its like we are the same! I can’t do geometry! Just algebra 1 & 2!
