High School Class of 2018

Okay, so I just literally found the ACT test problem book jackpot. I literally searched through my local library’s catalog and saw: The 5-Pound Book of ACT Practice Problems. I’m not even kidding, that was the title! :)) Did I mention this book literally came out last year? But seriously, the description says it all:

From the team behind the best-selling 5 lb. Book of GRE Practice Problems comes a title designed for the millions of students prepping for the ACT. With over 1,800 practice problems written by expert instructors, thorough explanations, and one-of-a-kind progress trackers, the 5 lb. Book of ACT Practice Problems is the perfect resource for high school students everywhere.

Manhattan Prep’s 5 lb. Book of ACT Practice Problems is an essential resource for any student taking the ACT. Packed with over 1,800 practice problems covering all topics tested on the exam, this book helps students build fundamental skills through targeted practice.

Developed by our expert instructors, the problems in this book are sensibly grouped into practice sets and mirror those found on the actual ACT in content, form, and style. Covering every topic within English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing, the problems are accompanied by thorough explanations and provide in-depth guidance to students for review. In addition, progress trackers and topical grading sheets enable students to stay motivated and zero in on weaknesses.

This fully up-to-date guide reflects both recent and upcoming enhancements to the ACT. Purchase of this book includes access to additional online resources.

Like, this seems like such a miracle. I just requested it and I should hopefully get it on the first day I start prep for the ACT, which by my newly-planned calendar, is on June 24th.

This Book + Khan Academy = MAXIMUM SUCCESS!

@apple1893 I literally sucked at Algebra 1. Like, I would always do the homework and get an A on it, but once I get the test, I end up getting a C. That was literally the summary of my entire year of Algebra 1. In all honesty, if I had just studied my math homework, I would’ve done a lot better. But if there’s anything I hate doing my than math homework, it’s studying for math class. Even though I got a C all year, I still somehow passed advanced the SOL by 4 points, I got a 504 and I needed a 400 to pass. I honestly didn’t expect to get over 450. I rarely ever studied for Algebra II this year. It was literally so easy. I just let my calculator do my work for me. I feel I won’t be so lucky next year though. During on Monday, my teacher accidentally threw away my quiz that she was going to let me finish, and so I had to start the whole quiz all over again. It was on Rational Expressions and Equations, something that is done a lot in Functions/Trigonometry.I got an 84 on it, but I used my calculator to check my work. That’s why I feel I’m going to struggle in math next year. WE WON’T BE ABLE TO USE OUR CALCULATORS FOR EVERYTHING! We’re doing everything by hand! I’m just going to hope this doesn’t become like Algebra all over again!

For a job Im actually working for my school district as a stem summer camp councillor,so that will be fun. Im planning on studying for the psat/sat using khan this summer, honestly they are very similar, the sat is just harder so u dont really need to study for each seperatly

Random question here :o is it worth studying for the PSAT, or would I be better off studying for the SAT, since the PSAT is just an easier version of the SAT?

@LosingCrayon As it says on The Khan Academy Website: “Taking an SAT practice test is good practice for the PSAT/NMSQT (The PSAT for Juniors) and PSAT 10 because the assessments measure the same skills and knowledge in ways that make sense for different grade levels.”

What about the blue book? Anyone using that?

I’m using the blue book…darker and greener than the old SAT prep book which was a sky blue. It has the same practice tests and explanations as Khan Academy, although the first 1/3 consists of things like how to succeed on the SAT, why it’s important, and just general info…and by the way on the college board website, the practice SATs they have on there are the same as the ones in Khan and the New SAT book from CB. So, moral of this…the $25 for the official CB SAT Prep book is not a necessity.

IT’S MY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! <:-P

So I just talked to one of the AP English teachers and she said that it is very important that I take notes while I’m reading the book as I’ll have to write a TIMED essay once I get back. I’m going to start reading right after school today!

I was talking to our school’s engineering teacher, whose last day at our school is today, just told me who will be replacing him. Due to the amount of Engineering classes that we’ll be having next year, we’re “technically” having two Engineering teachers next year. Our school’s wrestling coach, and one of our Physics teacher, will be teaching our Principles of Engineering class and the new teacher will take the rest of the classes.

@ak2018 about your $20 for key club, I’m on the state board for michigan so I can tell you exactly how that money is spent. It goes to the venues we use for district conventions and international convention, so that if a member were to attend one of the conventions he/she wouldn’t have to pay as much. I kind of view it as a service, because hotel costs can be expensive to low income families

i’m out of school!

IT’S SUMMER TIME! <:-P

@nyuhopeful44 I mean, I kind of figured that the money went somewhere. I just thought, for our school, we use it for the big trip to Kings Dominion at the end of the year and transportation to certain places and I was like “So we spent our money on things for us and not the people we’re supposed to be helping?”. But I guess that makes much more sense.

@nyuhopeful44 Same! I’m literally so glad we’re juniors now! <:-P

What’s your assigned book for ap English for the summer? Mines adventures of huckleberry finn

Any of you guys aiming for national merit?

@wildguy57 The book I chose to read, out of two books for AP English Language, is Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. And no I don’t plan to go for National Merit. I just want to get higher than a 1250.

So you know how I said one of our school’s Physics teachers will be teaching Principles of Engineering next year? Well I just realized how this is. It means that I’m definitely going to be learning a lot about Physics in POE. So basically, I’m going to be gaining a large amount of knowledge about Physics before I even take the class senior year. This will truly determine whether or not I’m really truly good at Physics. It might just be enough to make me take AP Physics senior year.

I don’t know how y’all were able to survive in school till now! I got out a little more than a week ago.
