High School Class of 2018

I’m about to get taught how to beatbox. If you here on the news about a library that burned down, that was me! :)) :)) #toofire

@Soccer1235 www. unigo. com/admissionsadvice/is-early-decision-really-binding,-or-can-i-still-get-out-of-it/553/1

I just out of the session and it was great. We composed an 8-measure beatbox. The guy said I should start slow, but I kind of wasn’t feeling the beat. I sped it up and it was straight FIRE! Let me tell you I had everyone jamming, even the instructor. He even added a beat to it and rapping. Once I finished it, he was like “Cavemen definitely did not discover fire, because it’s discoverer is right here”. I did it, and the library didn’t burn down. :)) #yay

@LeopardFire They aren’t annually deleting Common app accounts anymore. Non-rising seniors can list themselves as ‘other student’. A freshman could make an account today and keep it all four years.

But the thing is, you can actually claim that you cannot afford it; no one will actually investigate, and the inability to attend is subjective. However, it is quite a hassle, and it is better to make sure you like the school.

@Soccer1235 yeah I guess, but if you aren’t 100% sure about the school applying ED then not attending if accepted is gaming the system and not really right ethically. Also, if you read the whole link, some people said that the college could actually “blacklist” you which means no other schools would allow you to attend that year.

@ak2018 Wow the fire must have been real. Keep it up bruh!

Anyway, if you do choose to apply ED, it should be your top pick school and the only thing that can keep you from going is if they don’t give you enough aid.

OMG Fairfax County literally just closed today! Their summer started super late.

@LeopardFire Thanks!

@apple1893 Thanks for the advice. I’ll change my goals once I find out my practice test score. All I know is I won’t be getting a 990 ever again, that’s for sure.

@Hamlon @snowfairy137 I thought getting into a school ED or EA is usually harder than getting in RD. I would think your stats would have to be very high. I’m planning to apply RD to all of my schools.

@LeopardFire Then wouldn’t you just not put in your address. And with Khan Academy, I honestly feel I need the most help with math, especially Geometry, so I’ve kind of ignored practicing for the reading section. The reading/writing sections are my strong point as well.

@savagestudent7 It was!

@ak2018 Yeah, my friend who goes to TJ is pretty mad about it.

So I was checking out The College of William and Mary and based on what I’ve seen, I’m officially adding it to my list of colleges. W&M, its abbreviation, has a 33% acceptance rate, is considered a public “Ivy” League school, meaning it’s not really an Ivy League school because it’s a public institution, and has a really steep tuition, but hopefully, I would be able to pull up enough scholarships and financial aid. Their Engineering program is okay, however, here’s the best part. W&M and Columbia University have worked it out so that W&M Engineering students automatically get sent to Columbia University, yes I mean the Ivy League school in New York City, and spend 2 - 3 years completing your degree. Technically you’ll earn two degrees as W&M gives you one degree for completing its program and another for is given at Columbia for their program. So basically, after you complete W&M’s program you are asked by the university if you would like to attend the program to finish up their at Columbia in New York.

So now, my list is:

  1. Virginia Tech
  2. University of Virginia
  3. The College of William and Mary
  4. George Mason University
  5. Virginia Commonwealth University
  6. James Madison University

I know getting in to W&M would be a longshot, but anything can happen in the college admissions process.

OMG guys I’m literally crying right now. My report card just came in the mail grades were actually better than I had expected

MY GPA IS NOT A 3.71 BUT A 3.77!

I’m literally crying right now! I got 5 As, 1 B+, and 1 B. I thought it was going to be 5 As and 2 Bs. The class I got a B+ in was World History, the class I expected a B in.

@ak2018 Your chances are actually higher because you’ve showed commitment to the school and genuine interest. There is also more financial aid available and you have the option of getting a second chance if waitlisted/deferred. Top private schools often have AMAZING financial aid. For many, it is actually cheaper to attend a private, out-of-state school than to go to their state’s flagship.

Ok, this whole Brexit thing is a mess. It honestly reminds me of the unit we did in AP World on the causes of World War II. How in the world does Britain think it can achieve anything by becoming isolationist? If you look at the picture of the figurehead for this “movement”, Boris Johnson, you’d see he looks just like Donald Trump! The UK might not exist in a few years because the vote was deeply split between the different regions. Many of the problems during and after WW II were caused by austerity, mistrust of immigrants (Jews and other minorities), xenophobia, isolationism, and a whole slew of things that we haven’t been able to get rid of. Countries have suffered greatly after ignoring the need for globalization. RIP Britain’s economy…

@Hamlon Thanks for the info. Also, I’ve heard about that whole thing that happened in England. Thanks for telling about it, I actually didn’t know what it was about.

@ak2018 It’s pretty scary because this vote affected the entire world. The world economy is so fragile that a change like this might cause other countries (especially us) to go down with Britain. You got to love our impulsive fear of the unknown. I know politicians do.
