High School Class of 2018

I also received an invitation from GMU to go to their annual Summer Visit Day for rising juniors on August 19. Today’s a good day for me!

@Hamlon Politicians definitely do. You pretty much just summed up political propaganda.

Guys I really want to participate in a science fair around me and I already have an idea but I honestly don’t know how to research or where to get materials. Also what do I do if I need to build something??? Does anyone have any tips?

Summer finally started for me today

Happy Ramadan to anyone who’s fasting! I think the month’s already more than halfway done. I just found out a while ago about the whole Britain/EU situation - the pound is plummeting by the minute 8-|

My dad is trying to bring pounds from England over the last few months from a sold house and this is not good. Yeah Ramadan has bout 10 days left now

@preciousdiamond @Soccer1235 Some UK stores had to close for the day because Americans were buying out their stuff for less than it was worth! If any online British online retailers are foolish enough to not increase their prices after Brexit, they’ll lose so much revenue. Australians (and Americans) were lining up to buy as many pounds as they could so they could cash in later when the currency’s value stabilizes. I honestly wish I took Economics this year so I could understand more of what is going on.

My parents apparently don’t want to pay anything towards my college. Help?

What would you estimate your household income to be?

Lol it is 90k I don’t know where they get the idea they can’t pay more than 4k in college. Vandy is 15k after NPC and I’m sure I can work and loan 10k of that

I’m not even sure you would get any financial aid, if you do probably not that much. Lots of people pay for college by themselves so you will probably have to take out loans or something. Did they give you a reason to why they don’t want to pay for college?

No I definitely get financial aid, it gets Vanderbilt from 68,000 to 15,000 and it is one of the most generous FAs there is out there. They said that I can get the same exact degree from the local university and pay 2k because my dad works there and I would probably qualify and receive a lot of scholarship money and then go somewhere nice for med school. However, the same reasoning can be used to say that a flip phone calls just as well as the iPhone 6 se, and is much cheaper so I should get a flip phone. But, the iPhone has many more features and potential to do so many other things.

I think they will come around eventually you have a year to convince them…

Yeah true I really hope so because I have honestly fallen in love with Vanderbilt and they offer so much FA. If I can get in it would be a shame if I couldn’t “afford” to pay

Hi guys!!! It’s been a while since I posted. I don’t get wifi that often on the road. Currently, I’m in West Palm Beach, Florida with some family. So far, I’ve been on a surprise one day advanture at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom (my mom suprised my sister and I with tickets). Also, I went to Key West, Florida for an overnight where I saw street performers, the cool sunset, and the southernmost point in the continental US of A!!! Today, we embark on a cruise to the Caribbean. I hope it will be fun!!! I won’t have wifi or cell service for a week. This means I will check in with y’all later

I changed my avatar to UConn, for local pride. Its going to be awkward if I end up going somewhere else. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Soccer1235 I’m sure they will be willing to consider Vanderbilt if you get in with considerable FA. Apply to a lot of additional scholarships, maybe if they see how hard you are working to afford the school, they will be more open-minded. However, as someone who has to pay for college with no help, spending 2k on a college does seem like a fantastic deal.

@DaEmmJay23 That all sounds awesome! I’ve always wanted to go on a cruise.

@ak2018 I don’t think the College of William and Mary would be a long shot for you. You’re in-state, so you have things going in your favor on that end. Admission for in-staters is 49%. It’s public too, so your tuition would be a hell of a lot cheaper than if you went elsewhere. They actually meet 100 percent demonstrated financial need if you earn less than 40,000! I think the campus looks absolutely beautiful. My Physics teacher’s favorite thing to say was, “If you don’t ask(or apply in your case), then the answer is no.” I would highly recommend you attend their Autumn Blast in the Fall too:

Autumn Blast is our annual overnight program for multicultural high school juniors and seniors. During this exciting weekend, prospective students get the chance to not only learn important information about William & Mary, but also get a true sense of what college life is like. Prospective students arrive on Saturday afternoon and leave Sunday morning. Students have the opportunity to stay overnight with a W&M Student host and experience the social aspects of college life. Autumn Blast provides an amazing opportunity for students to not just see, but experience William & Mary.

@LeopardFire @Soccer1235 You could also look in to UA. They have a full tuition plan if you score a 32 on your ACT and have a 3.5 GPA(I think they count both weighted and unweighted). If my parents didn’t pay for college and I got into Vandy I think I would just take out a loan. It is too good of a opportunity to pass up because of money.

That’s what I was thinking @kassh4

@soccer1235 Have you taken the ACT/SAT yet?
