High School Class of 2018

@HazedAndConfused I took the June ACT and managed to pull off a 36 in English. My first practice scores were around the 29-31 range. I mainly just kept doing practice problems. Usually for the ACT the most concise answers are usually correct. Don’t pick choices with unnecessary words just because they sound more intelligent (that was my problem when I first started studying). And congrats on the 36 in science. I am terrible at that section!

Anybody planning to take the SAT

Is anyone planning to take both

I might have to because one of the schools I might apply to requires ACT but I’d rather take SAT so I might just take ACT just to fulfill the requirement for that specific school

I would die for a 36 in English.

OK so I decided to watch a YouTube video on how to solve a truss using Physics. This is something you would learn in the Statics unit of Principles of Engineering. I was following along for half the video and then the Physics came into play at full force, pun intended. I was somewhat understanding after that. I tried checking out a video on Kinematics and it reminded me about a lesson in Physics I listened into on Momentum.

All I can say is that it’s a really good thing that our school’s best Physics teacher is teaching PoE because this class looks a little harder than I thought. I guess I should have known considering the fact that it’s meant to be the equivalent of a college freshman Engineering class.

I’m planning on taking both. I’m probably gonna do the Oct/Dec SAT test dates. Then, I will do the Feb/Apr ACT test dates. The only reason that I’m gonn do the SAT in the fall because my school requires everyone to take the PSAT in October, so I might as well line up my SAT studying with that.

How are you guys going to handle AP courses with SAT and ACT? I am already nervous handling four to five AP courses with all these tests as well?

I want to be done with the ACT by september so I wont have to worry about that as much even tho my school makes us take a ACT prep class during the year and the state mandatory ACT test. For AP classes its gonna come down to work ethic.

@HritikKumar @wildguy57 Right now, I’m only planning on taking the SAT. Its the only one I have prepared for, and after being introduced to the format with the PSAT, I think I can do well on it. If I didn’t have to worry about test fees I would consider the ACT, but I don’t think I will take it unless I end up doing poorly on the SAT.

As for the AP tests, I’m not too worried about balance. My school pays for all the juniors to take the SAT once in March, so if I get it squared away then, I won’t have to worry about it in May.

how many APs have you guys done so far because it’s 0 for me and I’m hella worried :3

Does anyone else like to watch Back to School videos on YouTube? I’m literally addicted to everything Back to School right now?

@AliceZ15 None for me yet. Taking two, AP Chemistry and AP English Language, next year. What are you taking?

I’m currently laughing my butt off at all of these #kimexposedtaylorparty tweets! :))

Also, I was watching Java Beginner’s Tutorial on YouTube and I highly recommend Michael Fudge’s videos! His videos are very well done. I’m using both Java and NetBeans.

I’ve done 4 AP classes

@Tobster18 At your school how much harder are APs compared to honors

I’ve done 1 AP class (APUSH). I was enrolled in two at the beginning of the year (AP Spanish being the other), but I realized that I was underprepared for that class and since I was already taking Latin I just switched out Spanish with Anatomy. I don’t understand how people are doing so many AP classes already; my school discourages taking APs early. I heard that at some Northeast boarding schools (Hotchkiss I know does this for sure), they don’t let you take APs until Junior year

Not that much harder, because for most of the AP classes I took, I already had that teacher for honors. My freshman year AP Human Geo was really hard for me because I was adjusting to the AP style, but I had the same teacher for AP World so it was much easier, same for AP Bio (had same teacher for Bio 1 Honors). AP Art History was a new teacher, but I already understand how AP classes go down, so it was easy. This year 3 of my AP classes are with teachers I’ve had for honors classes. So at our school it’s like AP classes are just like honor courses, just with the added AP exam, not that much of a difference in the rigor.

My school doesn’t allow freshmen to take any APs, and only allows one (APUSH) in sophomore year, which I took, and there isn’t any restrictions for junior or senior year, but no one takes more than 5 APs in one year.
