High School Class of 2018

The reading section on the psat is generally a little easier too, less ambiguous questions

Is there any point to taking the PSAT if you are not going to be taking the SAT and probably wont be a finalist.

@kassh4 I mean you never know if you don’t try. Plus, schools typically cover the cost of the PSAT so why not

So my little brother just signed up for all of his classes for next year, pretty late, and he is in no way following in my footsteps. Here is his schedule:

9th Grade Men’s Choir
English 9
World History 1
Italian 1
Biology 1
Algebra 1
Health and PE 1

None of his classes are honors, but I’m perfectly okay with that. I already felt like my parents and I were putting a lot of pressure on him to succeed because I took a couple honors classes my freshman and sophomore years This is, for the most part, what he wants. The only thing I thought was weird was that he was taking Choir instead of Art. He apparently liked Choir more than Art in middle school, even though I thought Art was where he was headed. He wanted to be a video game designer, but he was still wary on it. My dad made him pick Programming as his 1st alternative elective class, I honestly don’t know why.

I’m debating on whether to take the SAT for the first time in November or December…I want to get it done with its soon as possible, but I also want to make sure I have enough dates if I want to retake it.

I’m taking my first one in November so I could use Winter Break to touch up on where I struggled and take it in January

I was thinking to take the SAT in December and then January because I’ll have the winter break to study for January. What do you guys think? I really don’t want to take it with AP exams and all.

You guys could study right now and take the october one see how you do then the december one and then again in january. I think 3 times would be plenty

OK so I’ve literally been doing ACT Math prep for the last hour and review over using the Plug and Chug Method as well as the Plug in the Answer method. The ACT prep book I’m using is amazing! It explains everything so well and even gave me an ACT tip. On the math section of the ACT, when the answers are in ascending or descending order, meaning they are ordered greatest to least or least to greatest, always try the middle answer first, which would be either C or H. It will save you a lot of time by using process of elimination. If you figure out that the middle answer is not the right answer, meaning it is too high or too low, then you will likely be able to eliminate the two other answers either above or below the middle answer. Just a little tip!

This is how I’ve been dividing up my ACT prep time:

Math: 30 minutes
English: 20 minutes
Reading: 20 minutes
Science: 20 minutes

@kassh4 3 times??? Remember these tests also can be expensive…

I’ll probably shoot for December then do January if I’m not satisfied with my score.

Do you guys think it’s worth it to take both the ACT and SAT? My parents want me to take both, but I just want to take the SAT. It’s most common test in my area. I feel like it would be better to focus my attention on the one test and do well on it. Most colleges accept both anyways.

Do you guys know when review book update? I was looking at the Barron’s reading workbook but I was thinking of waiting until the 2nd edition came out because the current one came out before the first new SAT was given.

@DaEmmJay23 If you can afford it and you feel equally good on both, you could take both and see which one you do better on. But if you feel more confident about the SAT then do that one. I’m taking just the SAT as well

@xxluvforeverxx Welcome

@kassh4 That’s what I’ve been doing with the SAT

@kassh4 I don’t know. I kind of feel like I should study each section equally.

@kassh4 The way I’ve been doing it is that I will usually take a practice test every 12 days or so studying each section equally, except math, which I need a good portion of help with. Does the way you described work for you?

For the people that are using The Princeton Review Cracking the PSAT 2016 edition, can we discuss any questions that someone might be confused about or is that against the rules on this forum?
